I LOOOVE Coke and Sprite. I try to drink club soda flavored with a lime when I get a soda craving. Gives me that bubbly refreshing crispness without the calories or weird chemicals. . . though I never drank 6-8 cans a day. Maybe cut down to 3 cans a day and substitute the other 3 with the club soda thing until you can cut it down to 2, then 1, then 0!
And you know, I don't want to live in a world where I cannot drink a coke time and time again. Maybe once a month or so. If you think about it in terms of "I can have one 1x/week", I think it helps, rather than cutting yourself off entirely. And who knows, maybe after a few weeks you won't crave it so much anymore?0 -
I quit cold turkey! Drank lots of water and green tea. No headaches, I was very lucky.0

Diet drinks are worse for you when you are trying to lose weight than regular soda,, just quit all soda.

That study was about diet soda.. more specifically aspartame. I saw not a comparison of weight loss while consuming soda and diet soda.0 -
I was that way with Mt. Dew. I began buying only fountain soda, and mixing the regular Mt. Dew with Diet, gradually increasing the diet. As I did that, I began drinking less because I didn't like the taste as much. Now when I'm craving soda I take a sip from my husbands can of Mt Dew and I'm good.0

Best way to end a soda addiction is to stop cold turkey for three weeks, suffer through the withdrawals, and odds are good you won't like the stuff when you try it again. If you do, then try to keep it as a treat.
Personally, I happen to like my Diet Coke, and believe we should all just do what works best for us and not judge others for what works best for them.0 -

Huge problem for me too. I also switched to unsweetened tea with Truvia for the caffeine/sweet craving. I started it by deciding that I was wasting good calories on crap so by taking out the 160-220 calories of soda, I could substitute something that actually had a benefit. It's hard and I still have one at times, but I just make better choices and don't drink my calories0

There's not a ton of research yet, but it will come out sooner or later that artificial sweeteners are nt good.0

I was a serious Coke addict, drinking 5-6 a day. I made myself cut back to 3 a day and even then, I struggled to not drink more. I was drinking 2100 calories in coke a WEEK! That's over 1/2 a lb.! :noway: Then and there I stopped drinking it. Yes, I'm getting headaches, but they aren't too bad. I take Tylenol and it gets rid of the headache. I flatly refuse to drink it anymore.0

I love pepsi max, but I don't drink it everyday and its never in the house to drink. I would probably have 2 cans a week, depending. Cutting down is key!0

I am also trying to quit all Diet sodas, a habit I've had for over 25 years-- and it is sooo hard! Diet soda seems to make me hungrier and definitely makes it harder to drink water. I have tried cutting down slowly, but always go back to more. I hate the caffeine headaches, so I'm trying to get used to a cup of coffee in in the AM. Not my fave---I know I should just go cold turkey, only made it one day without giving in. Does green tea have caffeine? If so, I may give it a try. Good luck to us!0

Here is the greatest tip I ever had about getting a headache when stopping sugar or caffeine. TAKE TWO ASPIRIN orwhatever pain killer you normally take for a headache. It takes about 3 days to get through this part. You are going to feel so much better. Try water with mio or some other flvoring. Or hot tea or instant tea. Try switching to diet soda but even then you will lose better with only about one can or less a day. All soda is very high sodium. Which makes you retain water. Hope that helps. I am working up to 3 litters of water a day. When you drink that much water you don't have room for anymore liquids. Don't give up0
