Quack Quack, Dr. Oz!

Thought I'd share.

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2013/01/can_you_trust_dr_oz_his_medical_advice_often_conflicts_with_the_best_science.html

"Oz maintained his trademark boyish wonder and excitement as he delivered a message many of us long to hear: A pill could help us “burn fat without spending every waking moment exercising and dieting” and even combat “emotional eating.”

Whatever, dude.

On the rare weekdays off when I'm actually at home, it induces a lot of eyerolling.

I actually spent 23 bucks on that green tea junk and it didn't help a bit. My doc is totally annoyed with him
  • I have been telling people for years he is a sell out and a quack. No one believes me, if they put it on TV it must be true, right??? Ugh!

More than you'd think, unfortunately. He's an Oprah creation, which gives him instant cred in the eyes of many of her admirers. That doesn't change the fact that (IMO) he's nothing more than a paid shill for diet scams and a snake oil salesman.

Lots who rely on just anecdotal/pseudoscience because they lack actual knowledge of nutrition/weight loss. Heck there are lots on here that rely on other diet plans for short term weight loss too.

Apparently all the ladies in my office do. I forget led me to quip that "You should ignore Dr Oz", and boy did I get the "what-for".
I eventually said fine you do it his way, I'll continue to do what I do and we'll see who has better results.

I can't help but wonder why Oprah thinks he is so fantastic.... how much did they pay her to endorse him??

When I'm at the gym, I always end up on the elliptical (when I actually do cardio, lol) in front of the TV that's playing Dr. Oz. It always gives me a good laugh.

Yep the same ones that believe margarine is plastic.

    This!
If his cures were so magical, wouldn't Oprah be Tyra-Banks-esque by now?
I only knew Oz by the ridiculous magazine covers chilling by the cash registers, but a couple of days ago I saw an episode on Oprah's channel (don't judge, my lung feels practically collapsed, trash tv ftw) and literally got angrier by the minute. The *kitten* that man sells is unbelievable. Is he an actual MD? I hope no one would give him licence to treat a human.

Dr Oz is indeed a quack.
I don't care what he says about anything. There are no magic pills that will allow you to eat garbage and still lose weight while laying around watching daytime TV.
    He is ABSURD!
    :noway:
  • I wasted money on some crap he suggested and should have known better. This was when his show was new. Now, every single time his show is on, he is recommending some kind of miracle. I'm sure he gets kick backs for all of the stuff he promotes on his show.

It's not just Dr. Oz. I was at my Moms tonight and she had the tv on Anderson Coopers show. He had a "weight loss expert" on spewing so much BS, I was screaming at the screen.

Does anyone remember The Poo Doctor? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gillian_McKeith
She definitely quacks louder than anyone and made millions poking people's poo.

I think SOME of what he says COULD be true. But when he starts endorsing products that he's getting paid for, I think it's way too obvious he's FOS.

I think he's actually dangerous on a thousand levels because so much of what he says is just hype, smoke and mirrors. And I swear, if I see one more show with him on it where he's showing off what great shape HE'S in (doing push-ups, pulling up his shirt to show off his abs, etc.) I may have to hunt him down and give him a good dope slap!
  • Yes but is he a real doctor or did he get his license from an cracker jack box. I have to wonder some days. I have tried diet pills myself and they so do not work at all. I lose but then I gain back twice as much. He truly is a fool.

He's actually ranked as being one of the top heart surgeons in the United States. His credentials are excellent as well. We all know there are always conflicting opinions, even amongst doctors when it comes to health and nutrition. Take anything you see on TV as a grain of salt.
