Quack Quack, Dr. Oz!

Yes but is he a real doctor or did he get his license from an cracker jack box. I have to wonder some days. I have tried diet pills myself and they so do not work at all. I lose but then I gain back twice as much. He truly is a fool.
He's actually ranked as being one of the top heart surgeons in the United States. His credentials are excellent as well. We all know there are always conflicting opinions, even amongst doctors when it comes to health and nutrition. Take anything you see on TV as a grain of salt.
Who goes to a respected heart surgeon for nutrition and weight loss advice?0 -
lending his name to this nonsense cinched it for me :

i can't respect anyone who would endorse this kind of nonsense.

caption on magazine cover : Dr. Oz reveals the oil which shrinks belly fat : lose pounds and 5" a week without dieting or working out.

I watched his show for a while. But then he would say one week this is the thing to get and three weeks later he had a show where it was bad for you. I got confused. Plus some of the products he shows are darn expensive. Diet and exercise was what helped me.0

I think people love him because he talks about poop.
Does anyone remember The Poo Doctor? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gillian_McKeith
She definitely quacks louder than anyone and made millions poking people's poo.
I think her show went down the crapper.

The secret to weight loss is no secret at all. Get off your butt and get moving, and quit eating crap. If Dr. Oz has any other plan besides that, then he's an idiot. Pills, tea, stuff you sprinkle on your food, been there, done that, tried it all. I took some stuff that made oily stuff come creeping out of places I can't discuss on MFP. The bottom line is, I was trying everything out there to avoid the basic reality that if I just move more and eat less, or even just eat less, the weight will come off. No big mystery there.0

unfortunately he wouldnt be on tv if people weren't watching. He panders to his audience. Any TV show on atm that promotes some kind of diet/weight loss gem in the month of January is just trying to rack up the ratings; New Years resolutions and all.0

If I would buy all of the supplements he endorses, I would be taking one every 30 seconds all day long and by the way, broke too.0

Gillian may be a nut too but at least her advice kinda makes sense. Her advice is always the same - eat whole, unprocessed foods & exercise. As for the poop inspections...yeah...I don't know how accurate those are.0 -
he apparently didn't help Oprah because she's still fat!0

One of my coworkers tried to convince me to do the HCG diet with her - which he endorsed. She was so hyped up about how much weight she was losing - of COURSE you're gonna lose weight when you're eating 500 calories A DAY!
Now she's gained back all the weight she lost PLUS some more and she wonders why she gained so much weight so fast.:huh:0 -
he is a super douche! I wish his show to be cancelled but fat *kitten* Oprah helped get him started and he still hasn't helped her with the weight problem! ???????????0

Anyone who is a Specialist may be very good in their chosen field but they usually don't know squat about anything else!:noway:0 -

OP: thanks for sharing the article. Another friend just passed it on to me, and after reading it, I was all set to post the link in the forum. Luckily I searched first and found you had already posted.
What a sell out.0 -

There's so much truth in what you said.0 -

Both my boss and a very good friend had the exact same thing happen to them. Of COURSE they did. The HCG "diet" is one of the most ridiculous, dangerous things I've ever seen. Strangely, I didn't know either one was following it until the end when they were both all, FU DR. OZ.
Strangely, they don't watch his show. But once the show airs, the buzz gets out there. You don't have to watch to know what he's endorsing. My local grocery store puts up "as seen on Dr. Oz" signage all the time.
His BS spreads like a disease.0 -

This quack scares me because he has the ability to do some serious damage to gullible and misinformed people... like my step mother The article has some good examples like people who at high risk of bleeding ulcers who take Asprin because their "other doctor" recommended it. My step mom is constantly diagnosing herself with various ailments as a result of both this show and one called The Doctors. She means well but she, like millions who watch Dr Oz, lack the insight to look into the misguided advice for themselves before following through with it It becomes especially difficult since the quackery is usually mixed in with sound advice and common sense.
Come to think of it, didn't he diagnose someone of being pre-diabetic on the show then she checked out fine  . I vaguely remember hearing about that awhile back. I could be totally wrong though LOL.I actually made a facebook page called "Debunking Dr.Oz" yesterday.
Hehe, I "liked" your page.0 -
What shocks me is that he is a cardiologist and yet he completely endorsed phentermine without explaining any of the risks. I am a RN at a surgery center and we can not do surgeries on someone who has been taking it for the past 2 wks, because if your heart stops for any reason we CAN NOT RESTART YOUR HEART with our meds due to the phentermine. It is basically pure adrenaline and depletes all of your adrenaline stores which is what we use to get your heart going again. Not to mention it makes your heart race which could be dangerous for someone who may have a heart condition. That episode was the day he lost my respect!0

I like Dr. Oz. He is a respected cardiologists and is well respected in the health community. He is much smarter than half the people on this board. Sorry, but I can not believe the ignorance on this board.
Dr. Oz is Actually a good doctor
As a doctor, he is actually one of the most accomplished cardiothoracic surgeons of his generation.0 -
i always take his show with a grain of salt. hes another 'doctor' that is paid off to say whatever he wants to make money. Dr. Laura Berman is the same way...just another quack0
-
The very definition of charlatanism!0
-
He might be a highly respected Doctor and surgeon, but he has been debunked many many times as to his "weight loss advice". Don't you remember when the FDA got pissed at him when he tested apple juice for arsenic, causing a panic, but he didn't know how to conduct a proper test? he might be a good surgeon, but he is a TERRIBLE SCIENTIST!0

I can't believe I have to stress this again, but being a respected heart surgeon does not make you an expert in other areas, including the popular topics of nutrition and weight loss.
Am I going to go to my psychiatrist about asthma? No.
Am I going to go to a dermatologist about stomach pain? No.
Am I going to go to a heart surgeon to ask about raspberry ketones and fad diets? No.0 -

Is this sarcasm?? Respected cardiologists or not no doctor worth anything endorses the crap that he does. But by all means follow his advice if it seems valid to you.0
