Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.

There are over 10 huge books in each of those series.
  • A Song of Ice and Fire - 5 books out of 7 completed.

You may know it as "Game of Thrones" (book 1)

Gonna say the same thing. Love em! :)

    Hunger Games trilogy

    Twilight trilogy

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series

Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches trilogy ("The Witching Hour", "Lasher" and "Taltos") -the Vampire series was good too but I like these better.

    Harry Potter series

Does it have to be a series? There are lots of really good books out there that are not part of a series

    Millenium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson
The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King
Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
The Passage Trilogy by Justin Cronin (2 of 3 released)
    Otherland by Tad Williams
The Talisman and Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

    Some of my favorite series:
    Harry Potter
    Hunger Games
    The Mortal Instruments
Infernal Devices (prequel to Mortal Instruments)
    Divergent
    Maze Runner
    Hush, Hush
  • Millenium Trilogy by Stieg Larsson
The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King
Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
The Passage Trilogy by Justin Cronin (2 of 3 released)
    Otherland by Tad Williams
The Talisman and Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub

I was just about to say, "I can't BELIEVE no one mentioned Stephen King's Dark Tower series!!!" I'm reading the seventh one right now. And planning a sleeve based on the books (can you say HUUUGE King fan?). The Talisman is also one of my ultimate favorites by him. <3

Another fantastic series is the Odd Thomas books by Dean Koontz. I've only read up to about halfway through the second book, but they're great. About a young guy who can see ghosts and tries to help them n stuffs.

Also....50 Shades of Grey....is for people who hate literature. The "author" wrote part of it on her Blackberry, for Jim's sake!! Repetitive descriptions and hollow substance do not make for a good book, in my humble opinion...

    50 Shades of Grey.

    No.

If it's erotica you like, you'd be MUCH better off with the Sleeping Beauty series by Anne Rice

A Song of Ice and Fire ~ George R. R. Martin
The Hunger Games ~ Suzanna Collins
Pillars of the Earth ~ Ken Follett
The Book Thief ~ Markus Zusak (not a series, just an excellent book)
    Millennium series ~ Stieg Larsson
The Passage (and The Twelve) ~ Justin Cronin

Ummmm... why are you reading on a cruise in the first place? Shouldn't you be gettin your groove on? Dancing, drinking, etc.? Save the books for riding a train or a plain. Go work on your tan, and have fun meeting people you're never gonna see again. :)

^That all sounds like a lot of work and effort.

I'd be by the pool, drunk, reading a book the entire time :)

Amen to that! Vacation is for relaxing!

I have to go with some series already listed, particularly:

The Hunger Games Trilogy (re-read on a recent Hawaii trip)
Percy Jackson Series (read the first two books over Christmas vacation--good story and fun/easy read)
Lord of the Rings trilogy (it's on my short list for a re-read--hit The Hobbit over Christmas too)

Elder Races Series by Thea Harrison. The first is Dragon Lord. Paranormal romance. Compelling characters. Good plots. Fun reading.

If you've never read it, Clan of the Cave Bear (Earth's Children Series) by Jean Auel. Amazing read. The later books not as good.

thanks for the thread. I've been needing new titles to put on my Nook.

I love, Love Dragon Bound! (Elder Races by Thea Harrison) Sooooo good!

Yes, It is DRAGON BOUND, not Dragon Lord. Don't know why I always do that. Thanks for the correction....and glad you enjoyed the story.

Janet Evanovich starts with One For The Money and there are about 15 or so after that. Funny, easy read...great for a cruise!!

Do it! I read all of them in 3 weeks!!
I was going to suggest this. Very funny, light reading. If you're looking for something long and thought provoking, check out The Baroque Cycle by Neal Stephenson. Or try Cryptonomicon by said author. It's a long book and very funny.

It was mentioned twice before that. First thing I thought of when I read te topic. :)

I am downloading Songs of Susannah tonight. I read the first 5 over the years and just re-read them. Love it. Also a huge King fan.
And totally agree on the comments on 50 Shades.

ETA - it's funny everyone is suggesting the Percy book. I bought it for my nephew for Christmas. Guess I'll have to check it out. Although, when I bought my niece The Chronicles of Narnia I read them as well.

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, The most amazing books I've ever read. Have re-read them all. you won't be able to put it down. Just thinking about it makes me want to re-read.

The Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (I think it is up to 14 books)
Actually she has a couple of series that are great.

Christine Feehan has a couple of great series, sci-fi/paranormal books.
Melanie Rawn has great sci-fi books also, my fave is the Sunrunners series.

It's not a series, but Gone Girl is a fantastic thriller, smart and clever. Highly recommended, and a really compelling read.

Gone Girl was a totally gripping book, that I did NOT expect most of... totally threw me for a loop...
  • Depends what you're into, for a one book read I would go with Stephen Kings 11/22/63-great book, makes you think a bunch..maybe you don't want to read that on vaca...humm????

As for a bunch of books, I enjoy anything by Kathleen and W. Michael Gear. I love the Anasazi Series. All of the books are set in Paleo-American Indian eras. Based on artifacts that have been found. (I think).

What ever you choose, have a great time.

Yes! I was going to say this too. It's a romantic, historical fiction, she puts actual time and effort into researching her books and that makes them great reads. Though I liked easy, quick reads such as the Sookie Stackhouse books, they just seem kinda cheap after "Outlander."

Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. One or two books would likely be all you'd get through as they are LONG, but there are currently 7 books in the series. I'm just about done with book 5 and still hooked. It's a little bit of historical fiction, time travel, love story, and a few other things, all wrapped into one fantastic shell.
