I gave it up. Aspartame is toxic.0

There is absolutely no scientific evidence aspartame is toxic.
I drink diet code from time to time.0 -
I drink 1 diet soda a day. No problems from that.0

love diet coke but this is what i do...once i have had atleast 8 glasses of water...i can treat myself to a diet soda0

So the FDA who gets its research from research centers funded by the very people who add ingredients to your foods are receiving 100% truths on the fact that aspartame is 100% harmless to your body?0
-
It is a lifesaver for me especially when I'm dieting on low calories.
Anything can be toxic in extremes. People tend to reference studies bordering on the extreme, such as the ones done on rats being fed obscene amounts of aspartame since birth.
As long as you're being sensible with the amounts you are taking, you will be fine.0 -
Is it good for your? Probably not. But we all do plenty of things that are bad for us. I drink one a day. I love it and would happily drink 10 a day, but I limit it to 1 because it is bad for me, bad for the environment (all that plastic or aluminum, even if recycled, has a big environmental cost) and expensive.0

^^^This is my trick also.
Sometimes I just want something other than water or unsweetened tea. For my snack at night I often have light butter popcorn and a diet coke. Makes my day!0 -
Doesn't look like a medical source to me.Do you have any links to MEDICAL research?0 -

Nope. Never said it was a medical source. Just the reason I don't drink diet drinks, but each to their own.
And medical sources aren't always correct just cos they're medical sources.0 -
i love diet pepsi!! i usually have one once or twice a week.0

I'm pretty sure it's like anything else... if you drink buckets a day it's not good for you. But if you're a casual drinker of like one or two a day then I don't see a problem.
However, I know my dad suffered some nerve damage that was linked to aspartame from diet soda. Granted, he was drinking more than one or two a day. But still, there are some problems that are linked to diet soda and honestly, after reducing my diet soda to once a week I FEEL better. Not as many headaches or brain fog feeling. But that's me, so you might not feel the same.
Honestly, I'd just say do what you like with it. If it's something you don't want to do with out, then don't. Something somewhere in your life is toxic, I mean smokers know that it'll hurt their health by a crap ton and they still smoke, so diet soda drinkers should still drink if they want.0 -
I recently quit drinking diet drinks. I personally think drinking diet drinks made me want to eat more sweets and other junk food. Of course that is just my unproven theory. However, since I have quit, dieting has been much easier. I have zero cravings for junk food or sweets and this is coming from someone who loved to binge eat.0

Alternatively would you like to present any evidence that diet soda is harmful under doses that approximate human consumption at a moderate level?
Because outside of some non causative observational data using FFQ's I'm not aware of anything.0 -
What about Diet Soda with Splenda? I haven't had a "diet coke" this whole week and I really want one!!!0
-
I love diet Mountain Dew! I need to cut back though, but I get headaches when I stop cold turkey!0

I drink 1-2 a day.0

I have 1 or 2 diet sodas a day. However when out to dinner, if I'm not drinking (I swear my wife cheats at rock-paper-scissors) I'll probably have like 2 or 3 diet sodas with my meal. Ask for a diet coke with a lime in it and it looks like you are drinking if you need to appear to do so plus it's yummy with a lime.0

I don't have any scientific proof because I'm not doing the research HOWEVER, from watching documentries, and I will say it, Dr.Oz, it's not good for you.
Apparently one teaspoon of aspertame can trigger wanting more sugar in your brain which will eventually cause overeating "toxic" foods (meaning junk food). If you have it in copious amounts, it could lead, eventually, to obesity. BUT, that's if you drink it all the time!
I would agree with make sure you have your 8 glasses of water (I usually drink a lot more, my suggestion 1/2 your body weight in ounces is best) have ONE can MAX and that's it for the day. Unless you're out drinking of course haha
Either way, I have Coke Zero (the 222ml cans) once every 2 or 3 weeks if I'm craving sugar and it's late and I have no calories left. I also do diet coke with alcohol if I'm out. That way I'm only paying for the price of the liquor and not the pop - I'm canadian, it's pop0 -
Just because people aren't aware of things - doesn't change the fact that things still happen.
As of now - we are at a point where we are unsure on the effects of drinking diet soda. So simply put, do what makes you happy.0 -
I mostly gave it up other than as a mixer with alcohol once in a while. I was drinking a few glasses a day of it before that. I'm sure I eat or drink other things that aren't ideal though. It was just something I decided to mostly give up. Not sure if it was hindering weightloss or not since I gave it up right when I started losing weight.
oh and I drink seltzer now for the bubbles. I don't crave diet soda anymore though. Once you stop drinking it for a few weeks, the craving goes away.0 -
Lmao!!0 -
I gave up diet soda and I don't miss it. I used to drink 3-4 cans of diet soda everyday. I actually found that when I gave it up, my tastebuds really came alive. Everything tasted better and not "deadened". I also found that I still like to have a little bubbly so I got a soda stream and just make my own soda water with a bit of lemon/lime in it. That seems to satisfy my bubbly craving just fine.
Whether Aspartame is bad for you or not, I found that I lost more weight when I was off the diet colas only because my taste became so enhanced that I felt satisfied with my food more. I could really taste nuances in flavors that I had never tasted before.0 -

Oh you are BRAVE bringing Dr. Oz into the conversation, lol! Good luck!0
