I've already moved to my dream city:

It's in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by farms and forests.

It's got 4 college campus areas, a billion bars, and a thriving local art scene.

There are tons of hippies, hipsters, artists, weirdos, and geeks.

It's not a city, but not a small town.

It's practically a dart-throw center of the United States.

It was either here, Boulder, CO, or Portland OR

Hmmm...you are not far from where I live. But I don't think I would consider it my "dream city." Personally, I LOVE Panama City.

oh, gads, warrensburg! I used to drink underage there, like, a billion years ago. scary, scary place. my baby brother lives there now, rest his poor soul.

i heard a rumor that all the bars on the strip shut down. is this horror true? what in the world do you DO???

and aaross: you move here and you'll have a work-out buddy right away

HA! No, not true. It just seems that they change ownership a million times. One of the owners was murdered a couple months ago, which might be where your rumor came from also.

yep, heard about that. scary little town, warrensburg.

I dont have a job that would allow me to move all over the country.. it would be finding a new job and place to be..
i dont know i just feel like i need a change and to see other places..
everyone has always called me a gypse..

That's fine and well but for how long? At some point you are going to have to settle down some place. If you feel like you need to change to see other places then quit your job and travel for a few months.

Columbia and Warrensburg! Two places I have lived :)

I currently live in Kansas City, MO and I love it!!! Specifically, the area where my house is located called Waldo. Everything you need is there! I can walk to the grocery store, the movies, the gym, and the mall. There is a lot of young people in the area, tons of bars and restaurants and we even have a farmer's market from April-October!

Hey if you liked Maine, I'm told by those who have lived both places that my home is a lot like it -- the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

But if the cold is an issue, don't come, it's been -10 or colder for the last three days. :grumble:

KC isn't bad. I've got a lot of friends there, and when a good concert is coming through i usually prefer a KC show over a STL show (st louis---cringe). I had an opportunity to move there a few years ago, but it was way too much city for me.

I  CoMo pretty friggin' hard. I'll probably grow old and die here.

then to Long island NY and have moved like 7 times on long island since..
I am thinking a move is in order.. not that i can afford to do it now but nothing wrong with a little planning ....

what are some of the places you would move if you could?

I'm in the same boat!! I'm moving in 6 months, and now I'm just trying to figure out where!

I lived in San Francisco for two years and absolutely loved it. If you can stomach (or wallet) the living costs it's an experience everyone should have.

I'm Canadian and haven't traveled in the states too much, besides New York. But if I was going to move to a major American city it would probably be Boston or Atlanta. I think I would enjoy both places very much.

Plus, Boston accents are my favourite. I could listen to that **** all day.

yep. I did my research. Portland had the best atmosphere. Boulder had the best college and the best activities. Columbia won for best location and weather.

I wouldn't move from where I am currently unless it was to a place like Hawaii or something. Austin, Texas BayBay!!!

SHHHHH! Don't tell people about this place!! We're already the #1 growing city in the country, and people are moving here like crazy...make it stop!

Go for a complete change of scenery...move west. I'm partial to the SW and love it here in NM, but tops on my list would also include:

    Seattle, Washington suburb
    Portland, Oregon
    Denver, Colorado suburb

I lived on HI, in CO and CA.

Hawaii (Oahu): People are very laid back. Loved the scenery and the ocean (nicely warm). Weather great pretty much all year around. They have a rain season. When I lived there, it rained for a month straight but it didn't bother me personally. You can save on some water and shower outside  I loved the island life and would go back anytime. Cost of living is somewhat high but it seems as it wasn't as high as it is in CA.

Colorado (Colorado Springs): I found it too conservative. It was a very safe area compared to where we live now. Lots to do outdoors and beautiful mountains in CO. Cost of living is good. I'm from Europe and married to a black guy. Some people made rude remarks about my accent and interracial marriage during our time there. Denver is more appealing to me and more diverse. Loved the four seasons but if you don't know how to drive in snow, you'll have to learn quickly.

California (SoCal): Notice I'm not naming a specific city. SoCal is just overcrowded and traffic will tell. Smog is horrible and covers the Valleys like a blanket. It makes me wonder if this is the reason why we are always sick since moving here. Cities are mostly connected to each other. Lots of crime pretty much everywhere unless you are rich and can afford to live in an expensive area where it's probably safer. Cost of living is very high. Generally, people seem nice on the outside but are really superficial, want to be best, have best, look best, EVERYTHING best lol. It's like a big competition. Depending on where you are it can get very hot. We have to spend the summers pretty much indoors or drive to the ocean to cool off. DH says that he didn't know what "racism" meant until he moved here. It's worst than it was in CO.

I would love to move to Portland or Seattle. From what I hear, it's right up my alley. New Hampshire, looks interesting. Tell me more about it OP.

Hmmm...have been to a number of places over the years but the one I would love to move back to would be Misawa Japan!

Now for the OP's and anyone else who wants to move and their situations...what type of work would you be looking for? This could be a very good driving factor...In my opinion

West Texas is my home. But, if I were to go somewhere else it would be Hawaii. Europe also tops my list, but you said the US. When my husband and I retire we want to have a vacation home in Southern France and Hawaii. I want to really experience both cultures. A couple of weeks vacation is not enough time. But, in the end I will always want to go back to Texas.

Portland Oregon sounds like a good place to go..
  • I'm also looking to move. I brought a poster of the US and pinned it to a cork board, took my dad's darts (shh! Don't tell) and was planning to write down the first 5 states that I landed on. The one I keep hitting is the one I can't move to. Well, that and the lake. (Well and Canada, but I'd rather stay in the US) There goes that plan :grumble:
