Hey ladies... sorry haven't check in this weekend.
Commencement was pretty fab yesterday. Walking in the rain wasn't so much, but once I got to the stadium, it stopped and held out the rest of the day. That was all the exercise I had yesterday and was a complete lazy *kitten* today and didn't exercise. I did buy a new pair of jeans- 16s that fit comfortably. YES!
To reach my workout goal, I'll need to workout every day this week, which I know I can do. The weather has been crappy, so I'm not sure about getting all my running in, which pisses me off. The weather needs to cooperate darn it!!
Hope everyone has had a great weekend! My eating wasn't super on point, which is frustrating, but I'll get back on the wagon tomorrow. I roasted a bunch of veggies for the week to eat with some whole wheat couscous. Also, took out my leftover vegetarian chili from the freezer and for work, made a vinegar based potato salad- very herby and garlicy! Should be yummy!0 -
I'm weighing in at 240 this week. Don't have time to put much more...going out with my mom for a little bit!!0
-
No running today, but a 60 minute total body workout with Hubby
1719 allowed/1589 eaten/130 left over, I'm very tired...it's been a long weekend..I'll catch up in the morning.
Night Fitness Pals!!0 -
Hey girls! The weekend is almost over. Ive got a four day work week and a busy one at that. My goal this week is to get to the gym 3 days this week even if its only for 30 minutes. I've eaten a TON of food the past four days and I've got to burn some of that off before my trip that starts Sunday.
We went down to campus and at at the number one rated pizza place on town. OMG no wonder. Wow! It was amazing. But we ste at 12 and it's almost 7 so yeah. At way way way too much.
Ive got a to. To do at work for our trip. Ive got several errands to run this week and still need to make an apt to get allergy medicine. And friday Gracie'S school is having muffins with mom on Friday and I have to get my hair done...good week bug busy week. I'm going to have to be careful and bring food with me so I don't over eat this week.
Kristina that is way cool that you got to see Obama!
Deb way to go with food tracking!
Kendall at least you kept running, way to go!
Victoria colds sure can hinder exercise. I'm starting to get sinus pressure and allergy issues when I get my HR up, hence my docs apt this week. I hope you fee, better soon.0 -
A quick check-in. A was uber lazy yesterday reading 3 books and taking a 3 mile walk in 50 min with DH. I didn't even cook... I am finally starting to feel better. Glad everyone had such a nice lazy weekend. I have to go get ready for my day.0
-
Victoria- I wouldn't consider a 3 mile walk all that lazy. haha! More exercise than I did yesterday!!
Happy Monday to all!
It was only semi-painful getting up this morning. It's so sticky here- very humid, which I really loathe. It's supposed to be in the mid-70s today, and depending on the humidity, that might be more than my body can handle outside. I have a pretty small temperature range of comfortability.
Yeah, so the plan is to work out in some way after work today. If it seems okay outside, I want to get a long run in. If it's too warm, I'll hit up the rec center. I will probably go to pub trivia this evening (first time since Ann Arbor's bars went smoke-free!- yes!), which means more calories than I normally would take in for dinner, so if I run, I might be a bit over, but will feel more accomplished doing that then doing an hour on the elliptical, though that burns more calories. We'll see! Gotta keep that running in with the upcoming 5K (less than 2 weeks away!)
This week is going to be rather hectic for me. It's another week where I have 2 groups going on at the same time, which is a lot to keep track of, plus I have several individual make up sessions this week as well- that doesn't include the part where I should be recruiting more peeps for the study, so I shall be a busy Kristina. I really wish I had an upcoming vacation to look forward to. Alas, no plans. The only thing on the horizon is either Memorial Day weekend of 4th of July weekend driving back to NC to pick up stuff at my parent's house for the new place. I could really use a real vacation though. *grumbles*0 -
Kristina- what part of NC will you be coming to?0

Kristina- what part of NC will you be coming to?
Kristina: How cool! I work at UNC/live in Durham. You should give a shout out when you get here, we'll meet and go out to Twisted Noodle and get some of that fine Thai Food we all grumble about. Unless of course you're just doing a hit-n-run at the 'rents.
Kendal: where are you? Maybe we can all three meet up.0 -

awesome!! I thought I was the only Carolinian here! I'm in Winston Salem. That wouldn't be that far of a drive to meet yall! I've never had Thai food lol0 -
Okay - now I'm wanting Thai food again. Had my physical this morning and all the basic things look good. It will take a few days for the lab work to come back but I'll keep you posted. I still have 3 more clients today, a workout at 6 with mom and a 7 Eagles meeting.
DH and I are talking about a date to the movies Sat to see Ironman 2. He is still being clingy which is good that he wants to do more with me. He has been working out more too.
I am going to have to mow the grass this week. Normally our first mowing is Memorial Day. It takes about 4 hours on the riding mower - why did we decide to mow 2 acres. Picking sticks up first will be the hardest part.0 -

You've. Never. Had. Thai. Food??? Gasp!!!0 -
Oh! And according to some app I downloaded on the ipad, in order to lose weight I need to be at 1865 cals for a day...which is about what I had calculated in a later post. So I am going to increase to that this week and see how it goes.0
-
Llyndon&Kendal- wow! I didn't know there was another NCer here! I went to school at UNC, then worked there, and then (shh) worked for Duke before going to grad school up here in MI. I don't know how long I'll be in the state for yet- if I have time, I would love to have a MPFer meetup! And Kendal- no thai? The shame! jk- I didn't have any until about 3 years ago.
Victoria- glad to hear that the physical went well. Did your MD compliment you on your weight loss amazingness??
Lacey- how did you find out the exact calculation of how many calories you really should be burning a day? Is this app something I can use on my iPhone as well? What's the name? I need to relook at the amount of calories I really should be eating in hopes to jump start some weight loss. Good luck!
Today's gone well so far. It's gorgeous outside, although I'm thinking it might be too warm for a run. It's more likely that I'll hit up the rec center instead of running. But exercise is exercise!
PS. totes craving thai food now as well. haha.0 -
(I could go for some thai too, lol)
I will look on the ipad tonight and let you know which app it was. I think it was free. It is essentially the same calculator all the sites use. Weight, height, age, etc...My maintain cals were around 2100 which is what all the other ones said too.
If you want to lose 1 lbs per week, then you need to have a 3500 deficit right? If I am eating 1865, then that is a 235 cal a day deficit. If I do that seven days a week, thats a total of 1645. Almost half a lb. Then I need to make up the other 1855 doing something, exercising for me. That works out to 265 a day...or 450 four days a week.
Ironman 2 looks great! We watched Sherlock Holmes twice before we took it back (something we never do) and I was totally drooling both times. I'm looking forward to the last weekeend in May. My best friend is coming down from Portland and we are going to get dressed up and eat sushi and drink sake and then go see SIC2 and go out afterwards.0 -

omg that sounds like the best idea ever!!! totally going to have to share that idea with my bff :happy:0 -

Hey Ladies....My follow up Doc appointment is today and my kids will having me running in 10 different directions for the next 2 weeks, bear with me if I am not posting as often...I am going to try to stay on top of things...but you know!
Gasp....I have never ahd Thia either...:blushing:
Hey, the trainer guy asked me to take my temperature for a few days and give him the average, mine this morning was 97.7...not real low, but low...going to talk with my Doc about it....the ear therm said 95.5 and hubby said, my gosh ..."YOUR"RE DEAD"...  , I'm thinking the battery must be off, but the under the tongue one said 97.7 ????
Check in for yesterday
I did outdoor work for almost 4 hours, HRM said I burned 519 calories...( I was dead last night and starving...felt like more than that!! )
1729 calories allowed/ 1734 eaten/ 5 calories over..
I'm running all day today...I'll try to catch up when I can!0 -
Good morning ladies!!! My doctor is a dufus - he didn't really comment on the weight loss but we talked exercise and running. His nurse didn't notice but she did get excited when I told her... I get there once a year so they barely know me. I am really pretty shy and don't talk much - if you can believe that.
Check in for yesterday - 60 min of ex (30 min Zumba in morning and 30 min of low impact aerobics in evening walking with Leslie). Consumed 1465 in cal and under by 511. I am still trying to make up for the horrible eating this weekend.
Deb - my base temp is almost always 97.7... It must be why I am always cold. Good luck at the doctors.0 -
I am hereby forbidding myself from going home and not doing anything after work. I eat out of bordom and its BAD.
Plus there's nothing on tv between 6:30 and 8 anyways so thats the perfect time to get out of the house and either go to the gym or the store or SOMETHING.
I helped on a bulletin board all day at work yesterday so I was on my feet for a good 6 hours when I'm normally sitting so I know I burned extra calories at work. But I still should have gone to the gym.0 -
Lacey- thanks for the info on the calculator. Okay- this is a lot of #s to think about, but it helps put my eating and exercising in perspective. Let me know if this makes sense...
I used both the fitness calc and an online calculator and got relatively similar info.
Online, with my height, weight, age, gender, my basal metabolic rate is 1659 cal/day
According to a formula, with being moderately active (3-5x/wk- the next one up is more intense than I am), I multiply by 1.55, giving my daily caloric need to maintain my current weight as 2571. The FitnessCalc gave my maintaining weight as 2426 cal/day. I'll go with the lower one, cause, I'm like that. haha.
SO, if that's the case, if I want to lose 2 pounds a week (I'd like to at least shoot for that), I need to be at a deficit of 7000 cal/week. I'd like half to come from exercise and half from diet, though there's wiggle room.
So, I need to eat an average of 500 cal less a day, putting me at 1926/day
For exercise, let's say I exercise my goal of 5/week, I need to burn an average of 700 calories each time I exercise. That's a lot! I usually can do that on the elliptical, but not while I'm running, so that's why I like to hit 6/days a week instead and lower my calories a bit more. I think, if this calculation is correct, I could be undereating, which could be impeding my weight loss, and that just ain't right. I'll need to be more careful of this.
I think for this next challenge, In addition to reporting how many calories I ate/expended every day, I'll keep a running log of deficit calories (how much under 2426 a day I am with diet/exercise and add up the total for the week).
Does this makes sense? I was boring myself even writing it!
As for my day, I eased on into it, as I had some flex time that I could use. The rec center went well yesterday. I pushed myself pretty hard on the elliptical and am feeling it a little bit today. Pub trivia was fun- food was deliciously bad as always, but when I weighed myself this morning, I've lost weight since the weigh in on Friday. YES! Let's hope it continues!
Also, at work, I got a compliment about losing weight. My fellow social worker said that my pants looked loose and what have I been doing? *twirls* That always feels good. Today's exercise plan is the same as yesterday. If it's nice and not unbearable out, I'll go for a long run. If the weather is too hot, or raining, another day at the rec center.
Hope everyone is having a good day!0 -
Victoria- I'm sure my doctor wouldn't comment on my weight loss unless I mentioned it either. I've only seen her once and unless something happens, I'm really only going for my physical so I don't expect her to remember me.
Kendal- that time period is bad for me as well. That's another reason why I get my work out on after work to help bypass some of that time. After I work out, then I go home and eat dinner and such, check out my daily websites I have to go to, unwind a little, and then it's time for evening TV or whatever. What's been hard for me is to learn not to snack while watching TV- that was a habit I had. Now I at least try and portion out my snack if I do eat so I'm not just dipping over and over again into the bag.0 -
Sorry for the spam, but I did some calculations for my week so far. Considering that I didn't exercise 2 of the days, I think I'm doing pretty decent- helps that with my newer calculation of calories needed, I can eat more, SO, these are my calculations.
DAY/Calories Eaten/Calories Burned/Under or Over 2426 (calories needed to maintain)/Net Loss for the week
Friday/2255/0/+171/+171
Saturday/1918/243/-751/-580
Sunday/1545/0/-881/-1461
Monday/2048/802/-1180/-2641
So, according to my calculations (and of course I try and measure my calories as closely as possible, but I'm sure there are some descrepancies), I'm at a net loss of -2641 calories for the week so far. Over a half a pound down, if measured that way. The scale seems to represent that.
Are you all bored yet?0 -
I can't wait till I get back from Canada and can go numbers crazy, lol. right now it is all I can do to just get what I need to get done at work and prepare the fam for my trip.0
-
Numbers crazy is exactly what I am trying to focus in on myself...Kristina, my numbers are very similar to yours....a little higher, not much.Having the new Heart Rate Monitor is really helping...I'm doing the burn 500 calories per day, and I have mfp set at 1200, which is a little low:noway: ( I'm like that too! ), I'm doing around 1,700 calories or so a day, I'm going to see if that makes a difference at the end of the week.
Ya, Pinbot, the Doc seemed to think it could be very normal that I'm a litttle lower in temp in the mornings....everything looked well today, except for some congestion in my ears, he thought due to allergies.....I just realized he gave me a script and with all my errands today I forgot to get it filled....:embarassed:
I really have to go again...talk with you ladies later, enjoy your day!0 -
I had a client cancel (silently saying YEAH!!!) so I came home for a quick run... I plan to be out the door by 1:30 to start the run, grab a quick shower and leave by 3 for my next client...
I'm fascinated not bored with your numbers Kristina!!!!
Lacey - have a wonderful trip and enjoy yourself. I hope it's a great success!!!
Kendall - I'll trade lives for a few days. I wish I had time to myself after work. Tonight we are picking stick and then I get to start mowing - plus mom will be over for a workout.
Debra - glad it went well at the doctors...0 -
I have no desire to either eat right or work out this week. Not a good combo is it?0

I have no desire to either eat right or work out this week. Not a good combo is it?
Well ladies, as this seems to be the only day this week with decent running weather, I ran. And boy did I. I wanted to try out a new loop. Mix it up a bit. This also gave me a wider option of when to quit running in terms of distances. I could stop at my usual distance (3.6ish), my longer distance (4.2), or shoot for the moon. Well, I shot for the moon. 5.2 miles ran. Yes... me... ME ran over 5 miles. :drinker: I'm still shaking my head at it.
It wasn't actually too painful other than the last .5 miles or so, which is no shocker as that's further than I've ran before, but I'm super proud of myself. I know that's the top distance I need to stay around for a while. So my goal now is to continue to work up to that. Keep that for a super long run around once a week (if the weather would finally cooperate!), and continue to work on my time/speed on shorter runs. But yeah, I sort of just wanted to see if I could do it. And I can! I'm less than a mile away from a 10K. Holy crapballs! *faints*
On an amusing note, I was pushing myself the last block or so, not sure if I was going to make it, blasting some Black Eyed Peas' "I Got A Feeling"- crappy band, but great to work out to, and just as I got to the corner where I was going to stop, the song ended and this cover of a Rihanna song "Take A Bow" comes on (the Glee version), and the first lyrics "how about a round of applause? Standing ovation?" Got a huge chuckle out of it.
Just wanted to bask in my news with y'all. Sure I would like to lose some weightage this week, but this is my personal trophy for this challenge!0 -
Great job Kristina!!!!! I am proud of you. My longest run is 4 miles but I move up to 5 next week. And 6 the following (gasps). But that's the training schedule for my 10k. So are you thinking. Of running the 10k with on July 4th???
Lacey - crack, crack, crack - get with the program girl. Only a few days until you leave. The better you are this week, the less guilty you'll feel on your trip.
So guess what I did tonight??? The local youth center has a volunteer teaching Tahiatin (?sp) dance. They just asked for donations from adults. What fun. My abs and quads will be sore tomorrow!!! Taking a class with others was a riot!!! I can't wait for next Tuesday. They will also be doing Yoga on Wed and Sat. Now I have to buy a Yoga mat.0
