My girlfriend is going to an event this weekend and would like to look good. We are in a heated debate on "what stockings are appropriate" basically.

DRESS: 2013-02-01_1330.png

BELT:Skinny Leopard Print (image isn't working)

SHOES: 2013-02-01_1416.png

The question is:

1. Can I wear patterned stockings??

if no...

2. Can I wear Navy Blue Stockings??

I will not state my opinion here. I would just like your non-biased feedback.

I'd have to see the stockings. But in my humble opinion you can pull anything off.
    You just seem stylish.

    No, and no.

Thank you for your feedback. And your recommendation for hosiery would be? (Assume the legs in question are EXTREMELY circus clown white).

    It's not me... honest :)

Edit to say.... C'mon, you know I have no life, what event would I be going to?? *LOL*
  • depends on the patterned stockings - what kind of pattern? Definitely NO on navy.

I loathe stockings. Opaque black tights would work, but not with the shoes.

Navy blue is a big effing no. This isn't the 80s.

I'd have to see what kind of "patterns" you're talking about.
  • Def. no stockings. the lepo. belt with clash with stockings that have designs..... i would say with out stockings! and gold earrings, gold jewlery

the lepo. belt with clash with stockings that have designs.....

That is what I was thinking.
  • if your legs are too white.... go buy you some JERGENS lotion... :) that can add alittle color to the skin.

No and No. I think you can pull of dark stockings with those shoes, but black, not navy.

Since I know this is about Corn now...

..Corn, I love you girl, but if you're doing the leopard print belt, the shoes need to be black, and you can rock some black opaque tights.

Navy is out of the question. Again, the 80s called. It wants it's tights back.

Patterned is fine, only if they're tonal. Again, though, the belt and the shoes need to match if you go that route. Red belt, not leopard print.

I would go with patterned (only if it's a small pattern and the stockings are black) over navy blue stockings

I would go with black opaque tights. I love an all black dress and all black tights together. The belt & shoes will make everything come together well. You don't want anymore pattern/color with the differing shoes & belt IMO
  • Definitely no on the navy - the pattern would depend on what it is. Maybe something more fistnet like or the lace style ones? Worse case just wear pantyhose.

ETA- you posted a picture while I was typing apparently. I think those would be fine. Or like others are saying opaque black tights would work well too.

If the belt AND shoes are red, I think those tights would be fun.

    No on the navy

Patterned tights, but maybe choose a design that complements the belt.

If you wear thigh high boots you could get away with a bare leg

YES. With a leopard belt, it COULD be a bit much... but definitely "pull offable."

    PICS PLZ WITH FINISHED ENSEMBLE.

Would def go with thigh high fish nets with a garter... the navy blue would def throw off the classiness of the outfit same with the printed belt.

Definate no to the navy, it isn't July 4th. The patterned stockings might be OK but probably not the best with the patterened belt. I would say red belt, red shoes, and patterned stockings. Or the leopard belt with tights and boots if it is a more causual affair.

the leopard belt and red shoes are already enough. stockings can only be nude or some form of black (no line up the back either), both the red and leopard put this outfit in danger of becoming trashy. proceed with caution.

ONE EXCEPTION hot pink or other brightly colored stockings worn ironically with greasy hair and minimal makeup.

p.s. may I humbly refer you to polyvore the fashion website for ideas and to portray the items together?

I agree with this - - I think the patterned tights are great with a LBD to dress it up and the pop of red rocks too. (but NO to navy with black and leopard!!!)

Do you need stockings? I'd say none, if not.

This looks like my usual work attire

Right now I'm wearing a black dress similar to the one you pictured, and I'm wearing grey/black patterned tights.
I'd stay away from Navy with black, it sometimes makes the black look washed out

You can never go wrong with black patterned/lacy tights if you have a plane black dress. It would look hot with those shoes!

Navy blue is out of the question.

I would opt for a near opaque tone-on-tone pattern in black, with a low sheen.
