I'm doing it, but I'm using the Zombies Run C25K. I tried it last year and it was just too much for me. I've since lost 60lbs and am a lot more fit and I'm finding it easier, but not easy. I still have to really work at it. I'm not a natural runner.
I love ZRC25K - I've got about 4 runs left and I'm really getting into the stories and the characters. I'm looking forward to graduating to the actual running app and building my zombie-proof base.0 -
Advances too quickly for me also. I just started doing 1 minute of running on the treadmill and adding on an additional minute each time. I do this 2 times a week when I don't lift. Days I do lift I am walking 3.5 mph for 30 minutes. I have done it 5 times now and I am actually up to 6 minutes of running out of 25 minutes total. It's easier each time I do it. :bigsmile:0

I should also mention that I am doing this while pushing a toddler in a jogging stroller...building muscle and stamina....LOL0

I did it, loved it, took longer than 9 weeks as I started very heavy, but I stuck with it repeated where I needed to and can now knock out a 5k in my lunch break - Just started the C210K, slightly trickier as it takes double the time so not so easy to fit in - But C25K Rocks!!0

I just started this program this morning. I only made it through half. I am not a natural born runner at all.....I feel very awkward & clumsy, and my feet feel like lead. But I'm not going to give up on it. I will repeat weeks if I have too... Just keep with it, and I'm sure it will get easier as you go along.0

I use this, had to go back to week 2 though coz i stopped due to injury. Ive even signed up for a 10k run in the summer!0

I just started it again. I love it! I did the whole program about a year ago and it totally works, but now I'm coming back from a foot injury so I decided to start again from the beginning to baby-step my way back. Good luck! I think you'll really like it.0

I'm doing it, and you can't believe how long I was sitting on that couch. I had to repeat week 1 three times, week 2 three times and currently on week three and I'm thinking about moving up to week 4 today. It is really a challenge, but it works. I am doing it 5 days a week versus 3. Give it a try, you don't get bored, this app talks to you the entire time your walking/running and constantly changes things up. Good luck!0

yes its a great app, have it free on my iphone, started it last year, and started again last week, bit hard for me, so i am doing week 1 day at the moment, i started with just the warm up and one run, and sunday did 15mins and the 5 min cool down so nearly finished day 1, it will take me longer that the time but i dont mind set your own pace. sometimes i do it at the gym, and in the warmer weather outside.
good luck0 -
I just finished it and I'm running my first 5k Saturday! I feel soo much healthier and I'm always in the best mood when I finish a run. I have 2 small kids, and I've found running forces me to take some "me time", which I otherwise never get! So its good for mental health too!
I have an app that I love Bc it just dings through my music, so I don't have to keep track of anything. That makes it much more enjoyable in my experience. Thank goodness for technology!
Good luck!0 -
I actually started yesterday too!
I started C25K last year around this time, at a park with a friend of mine. I got to about week three (when you were jogging for about 3 or 5 min at a time?) and then I hurt my knee - brace and everything. UGH.
But I have seen debate here where a LOT of people say it's easier on the treadmill, so now that I have a gym membership I decided to try again (even though I am coming in ten pounds heavier, ugh!) on the treadmill. Once I master that, I will try to take it out on the road to get ready for an actual 5K
Going to be doing Tues, Thurs, Sun, most likely.0 -
I think the program is great, even if you have to repeat some weeks.
I'm on week 5 day 2 of my C25K program. Today, I struggled - it was two 8 minute runs separated by a 5 minute walk.
I am personally struggling with the muscles in my calves and have to focus on taking my days off for recovery. On my days off from C25K I hit the weights for upper body. I look forward to the day when I'm running 30 minutes straight (burning 500 calories) without pain --- and I know that day will come. Until then, head down and eye on the prize! Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.0 -
I have done c25k, but was never able to get passed week 3. So this time I'm doing a 5 minute warm up/cool down. Run as long as I can at 5.1 and then walk at 3.6 for 90 sec. Then keep repeating for 30 minutes, so it's a total of 40 minutes.
C25k just seemed to advise to fast for me. So I'm going to try this. I want to be able to do a 10k in May.0 -
There is a group here on MFP called C25K where folks are posting achievements, etc. I found this program very helpful for me. I did a LOT of walking before starting the program and have managed to get to week 8 without any problems. (mostly mind over body is my struggle) It has gotten me back into a running routine which I like. Only 2 more workouts to go!
The version of the app I downloaded was free and provided for a 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. I haven't worried about the distance as much as the time, but with the colder weather and some snow I have done the last several days on the treadmill and I'm about right for the distance/time recommended by C25K.
Now I have to find a 5K to run!0
