Asperagus... how much do you trim them?

Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb here... last time I made them the ends were quite tough... thinking I didn't trim them high enough

The best way to gauge is to grab the asparagus by each end and bend it. Where it breaks is where you should trim it to.0

don't trim - snap! Hold it so one hand is around the middle and other other at the tough end, and bend until it snaps0

Thanks! I never knew!0

The snapping thing never works for me. Usually you can just look at it and tell where it's starting to get woody. The bunch I cooked with last night barely needed to be trimmed at all.0

yum, we all love it here.0

Bend them and wherever they break is where!0

isnt it true that the older asparagus gets the woodier it gets?0

Snap them. Where it naturally snaps is right for each piece. Works a treat!
