i agree OP. people have all types or personalities. I just stick with those who act like mature adults and can behave. stay away from the ones who act rude.

Is blunt honesty rude? Or would you rather people lie to you to make you feel better?

This is a very good thread to read regarding this topic, which comes up multiple times a day.

Yes- Let's act like adults, shall we? Last time I checked, adults don't whine and cry and stomp their feet every time someone disagrees with them or makes a joke they don't like. Adults do not run around snitching on other people, trying to get them punished for some small offense. Adults don't call meetings to rant every time someone they know hurts their feelings. An adult should - when they see or hear something they don't like - be able to have the self control to ignore it and move onto something else.

Just because we're all here to lose weight/improve our fitness does not make us all compatible. Do you like everyone in real life? I sure as hell don't. So why would I like everyone on this site?

    I think I love you.

I personally hold honesty to be the highest form of respect. And the people who challenge or confront people spreading misinformation to be the Defenders of the Realm.

Don't be suprised if you encounter people who are suddenly empowered after losing weight, after a lifetime of being fat and introverted.

Well everyone! Thanks for your input! I am actually doing an article for human behavior/reactions. I posted this because yes I think people can be rude but I also posted because I needed to see how many different personalities collide with this statement. You all showed very many different reactions to my post. A lot of negatives and some positives. Its a proven fact that the average human thinks more negatives than positives. Good luck to everyone in their weight loss journey!

Even you were really writing an article, which I kind of doubt, your methods (however informal) should bring up some ethical questions for you. At least I would hope so.

Sounds like a cop-out to me ... add another tally to your negatives

Unfortunately, some people cannot figure out how to be both honest AND polite, so they feel they get a pass to be rude, since they're "just being honest". I think in general, the advice to just focus on the positive & truly supportive people is the way to go. Thankfully, we don't have to interact with those who don't know how to have positive interactions.

So you are essentially advocating ignoring the elephant in the room?

Some people can be opinionated to the point of being mean, others are just mean for the sake of it. Sadly this is the internet, and no matter where you are you'll find mean people.

I totally agree with Ms Noodles.

My advice is, literally IGNORE their postings. Move your eyes to the next one and forget what was written by the mean person. Don't bait them by replying.

I do think it was a bit rude and unethical for you to post this for research for an article without stating that upfront. Seems kind of slimmy too me.

In all fairness, something like this would NEED to be conducted anonymously to avoid intentional behavior modification.

Some people have never learned about tact and diplomacy as a motivator , that being rude or demeaning someone is a greater incentive. Much like military training. Chalk it up to learned behaviour, not that I'm trying to defend that behaviour. You can choose to be offended by it or not let it take control of your feelings. We like to believe in adult behaviour as logic, fair, tactful etc. The "mean" reality to this is that it's adults that have created a cruel environment for others.

People don't get any less bratty and petty with age, they just learn how to function politely in public. Since the internet is pretty consequence-free, people act however they want to. "Be an adult" is such a joke. Adults create war, poverty, abuse, etc.

Most people who initiate these type of threads, know what to expect (because there are soooo many of them), and sometimes do so just to get people stirred up. It's a public forum - human nature for people to give their opinions, good or bad, nice or mean - if you don't like it, you should not be part of a public media-site.

Some people just like to ***** about everything, yes positive is what we need, hope when I suggested things I have learnt it is not taken negatively. I just like to help people after spending years with trainers etc.
