Why, cat, why?

I come home to find yet another dead bird on my welcome mat. But not the whole bird.. bird parts. Feathers, a leg, a few guts. I didn't study it too closely but that was the jist.
I feed my cat, I really do. Cat food, every day.
I understand he's a hunter. He's even kind enough to want to share some of the kill with his family, and I appreciate the sentiment.
But WHY on the welcome mat??? It's hard to clean, the little parts stick to it and it's just ICKY!
It's becoming a habit now, about twice a week.
WHY WHY? WHY ME??

Its an honor for your cat to bring home the "kill" and its usually at the place the cat goes in and out of the house. Praise the cat for sharing irs prized gift.0

It means he loves you!0

Awww..
now I just feel guilty.0 -
My cat would be to afraid to do this. She is a scardy cat , hence, her name is Shy. She is my first baby but she is growing too fast. I want another baby but her and my son may get jealous. My husband and I haven't decided if it will be a cat or human baby or maybe a dog to mix it up. lol0

Yeah, it's just the what they do. My older cat killed a bunny on Easter when I was a kid and I told my classmates that our cat killed the Easter Bunny. In hindsight, it's really funny but in the moment it was terrible. Our cat hasn't really presented us with kills since then. :laugh:0

Also, it's technically my daughter's cat. We gave him to her for her birthday when she was 10. She has always been in charge of any cat-related grossness.0 -
My cats bring their lizards in alive and then kill them in the house. Cats are nasty little murder machines. Mine are indoor cats - they're only allowed out for a few hours at a time in the afternoon a few days a week, and they still manage to find things to kill.0

kitty is saying "Here large hairless cat, I caught this for you because I love you."0
-
haha, how sweet! your cat is just trying to show you that he appreciates you and all you do! i have indoor cat, so he will hunt/stalk flies or random pieces of carpet (much more frustrating, trust me)!0

Awe. My dog does the same thing but with rats. I live in the city...0

In ancient times cats were worshiped as gods. They have not forgotten this.0

Once I start letting my cats out side I hope they are able to hunt for their food. It will save some money every month. (They already eat raw food so I am kinda expecting it.)0

Too bad it doesn't understand "No Thank you." lol!0

Keep your cat indoors. Problem solved.0

They do it to show you that they love you0

i have 8 indoor cats two are real mouse hunters the worst feeling is when they have the mouse in its mouth while heading for my bed. i love them to death but no dead presents in bed please0

All cats will kill if they can. They make no distinction between mice, songbirds, or your neighbor's baby chickens. Free roaming cats are destructive vermin. Keep your cats inside. I've lost ducklings to predation and I HATE cats.0

Oh, your kitty wants to share. You could get a different door mat that is easier to clean. Probably can't make the cat stay indoors if she is already used to being outside. that is just plain torture. My current kitty, Izzy, is strictly indoors (for many reasons), but my neighbors' cats sometimes bring goodies to my front door. I wonder if they are bringing them as a gesture of friendship to Izzy because they are not friendly to me at all when I encounter them in my yard.0

its just part of a cats life, growing up our cats were always bring something to our door step.
good luck0 -
It is incredibly selfish to let your cat run loose to kill other people's poultry, destroy songbirds, crap in your neighbor's flower beds or kids' sandbox, etc. If you are too indulgent or too lazy to keep the thing inside and have to change the catbox, get rid of the damned cat, not just let it out the door.0

They love you that is why they bring you dead, half-dead or even undead presents for you.... Besides, cats are always plotting something.... I love when my kitty boys bring me presents.... lol0
-
I LOVE your cat stories! Keep 'em coming! (That pic was hilarious!)
I think I'm going to thank my kitty and buy a different welcome mat, the all-rubber kind, where stuff doesn't stick to it as much.
I do know he loves me. He'll come to me periodically with this look of total love and devotion in his eyes, and then scoot right up against me as tight as he can. I always give him a good long petting and I think he appreciates it. I'm a big pet lover.. dogs and cats alike. My cat's name is Gary, after that little snail on SpongeBob, cause he sounds just like that.0 -
Normal part of living with a cat. Give them lots of love when they do, cus it shows how much you appreciate their gift.
When ours was an outdoor cat we got heads and entrails on a pretty regular basis...and the rare live bird or snake inside the house, brought in by a proud feline who got very miffed when I took them back outside.0 -

The same could be said for putting your ducklings in an enclosed cage/pen, which I'm sure will end up pooping all over the place. Because they're birds, and that's what birds do. But I get your point and agree with you. I don't like roaming cats any more than I like roaming dogs or roaming children. Personally, I keep my two cats inside. I love them far too much to risk their death by letting them outside (again, roaming dogs, etc. in the neighborhood). I have way too much money and emotion invested in them to risk having them get run over, attacked, or stolen. Why have a pet if you just keep it outside all the time? No, thank you!
@the OP: I could be worse. I'm on my 4th phone charger and 2nd monitor cable. One of my cats has a thing for biting wires, which is very troubling. I wipe the cords down with hot sauce, wrap most things in a Monster Cable Zip It thing ... and yet, she still manages to find a way to get her teeth into everything0 -

You think that it is selfish to keep an animal that has natural hunting instincts stuck inside for its whole life?!0 -
