  • This is awesome!
I totally agree with the "gettin low at the club" thing and I love the idea of doing Zumba in heels... I say that now! lol
And I am so glad someone else pointed out the whole body weight squat! Thank you! (the posts about using weights were driving me nuts!) lol
Um Coco did some serious squats holy canoli! I love the first comment on there..of course by a guy.. "that's nice" haha!
Well I will definitely have to try these! I'm always looking for a good burn! lol
  • heels... maybe not stilettos. if you're careful this is a great idea. My legs always got their work out when I was a national dancer but my calves never felt so worked as when I was practicing for ballroom or partner categories.
and in high school my wrestling coach once suggested putting us all in heels if we don't like running laps because that's the only way to work our legs equally as hard. :P

I don't see how squatting in heels would be any different then getting low on the dance floor at a club haha. Seems like something I might have to try!

Straight up. Back when I was skinny and going out dancing all the time I had a smokin butt and thighs for that very reason. Drop it like it's hottttt.

ALSO: Wall sits in heels. YES. YES. YES. Turns the difficulty up to 11.

This! I used to have killer legs, when I lived in 5inch or + heels and danced all night. Have you seen what strippers do 8 inch ones?

One of the DUMBEST THINGS I HAVE EVER HEARD!
Its almost as dumb as overhead pressing with a baby strapped to the front of you or
performing squats while standing on a balance ball.

    Some peoples kids. :noway:

yeah i read a whole article about how dangerous this is. don't do it.
  • Not only are doing squats in heels becoming more popular, but so is working out in heels in general. Don't knock it till you try it, it actually brings better results.

squating deep is much better with a raised heel cos it keeps the shin more perpendicular to the floor = more upright torso, quads worked much better as ur not leaning forward and using ur back as much

HOWEVER if u wana do tht buy some olympic weightlifting shoes. they have a raised wooden heel

    theyre safe and secure

dont do them in heels, at least not with weights

makes good practice for them porno style bj's tho i guess

if u squat wide stance and go parallel some flat shoes will probs be better, for deep squat deffo oly shoes

I was surprised this didn't come up earlier.

If we're talking 6" spike stilettos, of course this isn't a great idea, but if you're talking a fairly wide heel and only an inch or so high, it's not really much different from a weightlifting shoe. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that a women dress shoe with a solid, wide and lowish heel is probably better than the soft squishy trainers that most people use to squat.

If you're squatting regularly though, it's worth the money to get a decent pair of lifting shoes.

EDIT - Also didnt notice, but everyone loves a necrobump!

No - it brings about broken ankles and bad backs and risks bad knees.

WOW! This is probably the most asinine piece of fitness advice I have ever heard!

LOL! The reason you are "feeling" it more is because you are subjecting your muscles and joints to stresses they are not designed for.

Correct form for squatting requires you to focus on driving all the force through the heels into the floor, not through the toes or even the ball of the foot. Have you ever seen a power lifter do anything like this? I'll answer that one for you. NO! If anything they will do squats with no shoes on to get more force and avoid this exact thing (raising the heels off the floor).

If you've ever looked at a quality weight lifting shoe the sole is absolutely flat and very thin to be as close to barefooted as possible but still have something surrounding the foot for at least some protection.

I guess it will never cease to amaze me some of the things that come along in this industry. All I can say is WOW!!!:noway:

I teach ZUmba and have thought about doing a class in heals. I think we would get a totally different workout!

this class is offered in LA. I wouldn't do it though. I like to use my vibrams when I zumba. or when I anything.

ETA: Dagnabbit! Necro trap! U little cattawampas!
  • Guys, have you SEEN the things strippers do in their heels? I don't think squatting will be a problem if you're careful and you know what you're doing, ha ha ha ';D

I wear heels all the time. I run and jump and skip in my heels : )

Squatting in them will be different but I take that as a challenge :D

Strippers wear heels? Never quite make it that far down their bodies.

Strippers wear platforms that are thick, not really the same as heels. That is why they are easy to dance in. I wouldn't recommend doing these with really slim heels like stilettos, but a thick platform would work.

I have nothing to prove. I only squat in stilettos when trying to seduce my man on the dance floor or trying to get free drinks when out with the girls. Other than that...sorry.

Sigh...........I've been on this site long enough to remember this post when it first showed up. It was an idiotic idea then, and it's and idiotic one now.

Ahhhh OP You should have put this in the chit chat category because srs folks be srs

I for sure wouldn't whip out my stripper shoes and take 'em down to my power rack for some barbell squats but I damn straight will have a little dance party and drop it like it's hot :drinker: Probably twerk a little bit while I'm at it

Actually weightlifting shoes have a heel. The heel creates artificial ankle dorsiflexion, allowing a much more upright torso and deeper squat.

LOL - Su Dajin you're doing it wrong! I bet he wished he'd listened to everyone here, then he would have a gold medal instead of a silver at the world championships!

EDIT - Just wanted to point out, that's 193kg that he's holding overhead in a squat, he weighs 77kg.

Sounds like a good way to tear a calf muscle, or sprain your ankle.
  • That just sounds incredibly dangerous to me..... I do hope your not doing it with some serious weights....

Thos kind of shoes are already bad for your feet when worn for a while anyways. I can't imagine why anybody would do strength exercises in them...or advise others to do so.

Heels are not 'universally bad'. I personally have issues with my feet (I was born flat footed, had shoe inserts for years, now have ligament issues caused by my bones shifting when I was pregnant) and when I spoke to 2 different doctors about it I was advised to wear heels as my every day shoe, as for my problems they actually place my foot in a safer position.

I am not saying this is the case for everyone, I am just saying don't say they are 'just bad for you'.

I think I will have to try the heel squats tonight :)
