Wow you guys are awesome! Can i ask what you eat, if at all, before that morning workout???
    x

I generally have something small like a handfull of trailmix, then eat breakfast later.
  • welcome to the dark side! i get up at 530 to gym it...it makes the day SO much better, and gives me so much energy to get things done. not to mention i have like 5 additional hours to do things, rather than rushing around when i get up at 1030 :)

those of you who don't get up early to work out, try it and you might just love it!

Ugh, I am not looking forward to this spring and summer. In order to have any sort of reliable workout schedule I will have to move to AM gym time starting in April. That means leaving my house by 5:15 at the latest. Wish me luck....I have my fingers crossed that I can become a Crazy Early Morning Workout Person!

I'm there at 3:30 a.m.!!! It's the best time for me. If I don't go to the gym first thing it usually doesn't happen at all.
  • I am a 4:30 person. I love that I have actually gotten used to it, I am not forcing myself out of bed..I am excited about it. I do workout at night also, but if I don't have the time or don't want to for whatever reason, I know that I got it out of the way in the morning and I feel great about it!

Here's a good example of what I'm talkin' about

I used to be that person. I would wake up at 5 and get my work out in while my husband was still sleeping and I could have free reign of the house. It also allowed me to COOK a healthy breakfast and enjoy it without rushing out. I miss those days. Gotta find a way to get back in to it. I really did feel AWESOME those days that I did get up and get my exercise on in the morning....

Yay! Welcome to the "Early Show"! I'm up at 4 a.m. and at the gym by 4:50. The first few days were rough, but now if I miss a day, I feel terrible and groggy. The first time I pulled into the parking lot at 4:47 a.m., I was shocked by the large number of cars. I think many want to take advantage of the time before the morning rush of work, kids waking up and getting everyone out the door. I have 45 minutes just for me at the gym and then 30 minutes at home doing AM Yoga. It's such a treat!

Wow, some of these sound extreme. I've been meaning to do the workout I do at home in the mornings (just fairly low impact 30min cardio exercises). I normally get up around 9 am unless I have an early class, but even then I only get up at 7:30am. So I think I'll aim for around 6am tomorrow.

Would people advice a quick breakfast/cup of tea before or just go straight into the workout? Considering it's less than a meter from my bed to my workout space, I'd like to get by bearings before starting to exercise but then I like the relaxed feeling of eating after exercise when I get to relax...

I always thought people that get up at 4:30am to go work out were crazy....

I get up at 4:30 to exercise and I STILL think I'm crazy. lol

Welcome to the darkside - we have cookies.
  • I'm up at 4:30 am daily and usually get a run in or workout in my basement with my DVD's. Sometimes I run AND do a DVD. It just helps me start my day off right. It's also great to get it out of the way so no matter what craziness your day might bring, your workout is done. Taking care of my temple is one of my top priorities so I treat it as such.

The only downside is that my body wants to wake up at 4:30 am on the weekends too!! HA HA! I usually "sleep in" until about 6:30 AM on weekends and then I just have to get up.

I love being up in the early morning when the rest of the world (including my two-year-old son) is in bed. The trick for me is to prepare everything the night before - if my workout clothes are sitting on the radiator (nice and warm!) and my routine is planned (even something as simple as planning to ride the exercise bike for 30 minutes), it's much easier to follow through. My wife is also good at giving me a kick in the backside if I snooze too long.

I do everything at home or outside. If I belonged to a gym - even the one that's just a half-mile down the street - I'd probably find it much more difficult to get going. For me, it's all about removing obstacles, even the ones as minor as digging in the drawer for clothes.

You all are inspiring me to try and get my butt out of bed earlier and do morning workouts! I usually go to the gym after work during in the week, but go in the morning on the weekends. I always notice a huge difference in my energy level when I get there in the morning, but so far haven't found the motivation to wake up early enough to do it during the week. Going to try and change that soon, will let you know how it goes!

I'm usually up by 5am to get ready for some quality time at the gym before work. It took a little while to get used to it, but once you adjust your bedtime so that you get enough sleep, it's not a big deal. I always feel so much better after an early morning workout!

I am an early morning person as well. Alarm goes off at 3:30 am, and I am at the gym by 4:45 am. This is MOnday thru Friday.

On Sundays, I sleep in until 6:15 before heading out for a run.

I hate it. But, do it anyway. Things that are good to do suck. That's just how life is. So, the more stuff you hate doing, the more good overall you're probably doing. Lol

    Pretty much!!

I like to get in and get out before my brain realizes I'm up so early

I love early morning workouts, I get it done early and that way nothing can keep me from doing it the rest of the day and it makes me feel great all day! So the thoughts of not having to work it in, in the evenings is enough to get me up and going in the mornings:smile:

I also just started the Early Morning Workouts this week and I  it! I found myself making/finding too many reasons/excuses to not work out in the evenings and I was sick of missing a day, or two or the whole week before I knew it. So I told myself that I was going to get up at 5:30am NO SNOOZE BUTTON and get my workout done before I have to go to work.

I feel so much better all day, I have a lot more energy, I eat better, I drink my water! Amazing. I dropped 4 pounds this week!! How is that NOT motivating? Just do it people! This is coming from a former night owl.

In the summer I work 7-4 so I will have to be up around 4:45! It is totally worth it though. I love how much more consistent I feel and the fact that my evenings are FREE to do whatever I want or need to do. Driving home after work I am not stressing about if I will workout or if I will be too tired to workout.

PS: I also sleep in my gym clothes and I am lucky enough to be able to workout at home. It is awesome!

If work didnt start at 6am for me I would be a morning work out person. I can see the advantage of it.
  • I get up early(4:10 ish) and work out early. More energy and I know that I will get my workout in for the day.

I always thought people that get up at 4:30am to go work out were crazy.... I would think, "I barely have the energy to get out of bed and rush to my 8am class. Why would one want to do this?" :noway:
That is... untill I tried it this week... and I feel AWESOME! I am not going to my 8 am classes all drousy and tired anymore, and I have so much more energy throughout the day.
Ofcourse, now that my alarm has gone off everyday this week at 4:30 sharp, my roomate hates me :blushing: I can never be quiet enough. Anyway, I just wanted to say here's to you morning workout people! :drinker: I have moved to the dark side

    WELCOME TO THE CLUB! :D

I never used to be one of those people...I would work out after work. But then it got to be way too common for me to say "I have to pack lunches" or "I have to make dinner" (you get the idea..."feed the dog" "Go to the store) etc).

Now I'm up by 4:15AM, get a nearly 1.5 hour workout in, and by the time I get to work, I'm bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Days I don't go work out in the morning I honestly feel like crap. It also frees up my afternoons after work SO much!

I've done it, but I feel the workouts aren't as effective because I have less energy and can't concentrate as well. After work I have a lot of pent-up energy that I need to release after sitting at a computer all day, so I end up working harder. Do you morning workout people find this to be true or are you more energized because you've been sleeping beforehand?

My warm up might be slightly painful but once I get going...I am working hard. Perhaps it is the mentality that I didn't get out of bed to slack. I woke up early to bust my tail and get my sweat on!

For me, once I got home from work I didn't want to do anything! Everyone is different and sometimes it takes time to get use to schedule changes. Do what works for you.

I also live on the "dark side", up at 4:00 am, hit the road by 4:15ish, at the gym (standing in line with all the other nuts) waiting for the gym to open at 5:00, first class starts at 5:05 am. I have a 30-35 minute commute both to and from the gym so I have lots of time to relax and plan for my day without interruption.

No one needs me for anything at 5:00 am, while after work at 5:00 pm, somebody always needs/wants me for something. And it feels so good to get to work and know that my workout is already in!! Then, if something fun comes up there is no guilt and if a friend wants to go for a walk or run then it is a bonus workout!!

If I wait to work out after work and just go home and the workout never happens, there is dinner to fix and clean up, a teen with homework, a necessary trip to the grocery store, school events, etc., it just doesn't happen. None of that applies at 4-5:00 am!!!

Hail to the early risers!!!! We are strong and awake, at least until about 8pm!!!

You know, there was a time about 4 years ago when I was getting up at 5:15 to walk or work out with a friend. I didn't want to get up early in the first place but we did it together to keep each other motivated. At first it was great but then she got into a very bad habit of texting me at the last minute to say she wasn't going to make it. When she did show up, it drove me nuts because she often wore dirty workout clothes that clearly hadn't been washed (and smelled like wet dog), and she also drank coffee but didn't brush her teeth before she came. It got to the point where I would figure out which direction the fans were blowing and position myself between the fan and her.

I didn't like the gym and the workouts were really nothing more than just walking on the treadmill. I resented the h*ll out of it, and her.
I was so glad to find an excuse to stop meeting her in the mornings, and I swore that I would never ever ever get up early to workout like that. And here I am, up at 4:50 and PUMPED!! Amazing what a change of scenery and company will do for you!!

LOL that's right. I love and hate my early morning workouts. I'm a morning person so it's not hard for me to get up early it's just going through the motions of each circuit at 530am but once it's over I'm loving it and I feel I'm better able to tackle the day. Good for you for changing up your schedule... sorry for your roommate tho!

I'd love to join the early club but then you have to goto bad by 10pm latest.
I used to think this way, then I realized, the only thing I was doing past 10 pm was just sitting on my butt watching tv anyways. So I decided it would be better to go to bed and wake up and do something GOOD for myself. I'm a 4:30am riser myself.
