i always refer back to this article for the ladies "train like a man, look like a goddess" www.leangains.com
  • Just giving you a hard time. This might not be the best place to find others who train very heavy. I think it is less of a misconceived fear of bulking up, especially on MFP than it is most women would rather not exercise at a gym, and therefore don't train with anything more than light dumbbells, body weight or bands. Some may not want to workout in front of others, some may not want to travel/pay for a membership, or some don't have the time.

You've got it right though, lift heavy, it will never bulk you up to that of a caveman looking physique and does wonders for your health.

That's more where I was going with this post LOL. I totally agree. I see so many girls at the gym who are perfectly healthy with 3lb dumbbells that think they're going to turn into the incredible hulk if they pick up more than that. It's such a health benefit to be strong, which I simply wanted to point out I wish more women realized. :)
  • I'm not scared, but I did just start but it's heavy for me.

Everyone starts somewhere! it's awesome that you're trying. :)

Absolutely, most of the women I've worked with are very cautious and don't trust me when I design a regimen with lifting in it, and are very apprehensive. What most people don't realize is first, if you are at a caloric deficit, muscle growth won't occur, second, lifting weights is key to having a tight and toned physique by retaining what lean mass you have, and third, it does wonders for the joints, nervous system and is more efficient in regards to calorie burning. Women also lake sufficient test levels to pack on mass without the aid of synthetic substances.

I think this site is almost obsessive about lifting, actually.

    That said, weights terrify me.

They also terrify the trainer I'm working with--not because he doesn't use them, he does all the time--but he seems VERY scared I'm going to hurt myself.

I've decided something must be wrong with me.

LOVE lifting weights!! i actually prefer it over cardio these days. I stopped really using MFP forums because I too, rarely see women on here that like to lift. FYI if you're looking for the social media mecca of Women who lift Instagram is it LOL. Feel free to add me on there I use it way more than this. same username "quishajuice" :)

Congratulations on your progress and enthusiasm to be a personal trainer. It certainly has it's rewards and your experience can lead to connecting to clients easily. And yes, women who lift are sexy as f@ck.

Lady lifter here! I'd never have even thought to train with heavy weights before coming to MFP - I'd dabbled with machines at the gym and 5lb Barbie weights (though mine were blue, not pink). I still don't personally know any other female lifters IRL. MFP has shown me the way. There's plenty of lady lifters to be found here and plenty of great information if you're willing to see past the not so good information.

  • Girls cannot bulk they do not have the testosterone!!!!! Doing low reps of heavy weights will transform the shape of your body and is great for weight loss! They also help you burn calories post-workout.

In saying that, i do heavy weights.

Been lifting three times a week since Feb 18, 2012, but realized only in the past 12 weeks how much further the human body will go when it's pushed (I have a strength training partner now and sometimes he pushes me to insane limits).

I am much stronger today than I was a mere six months ago.

I love looking at and feeling my muscles.

I definitely do not look like a man despite aforementioned muscles (the bikini picture in my profile hopefully proves this). I do eat like one some days, though.

For being a member here of just a whopping month, I'm not surprised that you have some misconceptions about what MFP has to offer. In fact, MFP is a GREAT place to find other women that train heavy--a previous poster linked a few threads that were started in that last COUPLE OF DAYS that focused on women who lift heavy. You might want to know what you're talking about before you open your mouth and stick your foot in it. :flowerforyou:
  • I quit cardio after I started lifting. Cardio bores me to death.

I have to literally force my cardio. I love lifting, but cardio makes me want to off myself. I feel your pain.
