The only 'food' that has a more than minuscule impact on your metabolism, and even then it's not that significant, is caffeine.
Which is why I make sure I enjoy my latte every day. It's a miracle food you know.0 -
Honestly, I think exercise does more for your metabolism than any food does.
However, I do feel like certain foods slow me down more than others. Pasta for example, makes me tired after I eat it. I think it has something to do with the way my hormones react to starches. I think there are more highs and lows with foods that have sugar or starch. Fiber and protein, however, don't affect your insulin as much. They digest differently. I don't really understand all the science behind it. I just know that starchy, sugary, or greasy foods make me want to take a nap.
I believe the reason we feel tired after a meal (especially a big meal or one that is hard for the body to break down) is due to the huge amount of blood that our digestive system needs.... for digestion >.>
In other words, there's more blood is your belly and less in your brain - thus you get tired for a while. That's what I've always believed anyway.0 -
Not processed foods, you want whole foods, lean meats, fresh fruits and veggies. These foods will help you with weight loss.
Stop eating engineered crap that is designed to make you want more and not feel full. Why do so many people drink coke? Why can't they quit? It's because it's engineered to be addicting. I'm not picking on coke. Pick nearly any processed food out there. Lay's potato chips slogan is "You can't eat just one", this is true because that's what they are trying for. I can eat a whole big bag of chips and not feel full. Give me a cup of broccoli and I'm good for a while.
Nothing tastes as good as fit feels.
Eating processed foods will not stop fat loss. It might mask a few lbs due to water weight, but exercise can do the same thing. While eating whole foods is good for satiety and overall health, it's not a requirement for fat loss. Many of us eat about 80% clean and have continuously gotten more fit and have low body fat. And I know for dang sure, there is NO way in hell I am giving up my Chipotle burrito's and pizza. I exercise 6 days a week so I can eat 2500 calories and consistently lose 1 lb per week. And if you look at my diary, you will find stuff like milkyways, chipotle, red robin, etc...0 -

Just one question. How do they "engineer" the food to make you want more and not feel full?
I'm not saying eating "whole" foods is bad. But I'm just sick of this idea that anything you buy from a store was created in a lab by a mad scientist and alters your entire body and brain chemistry.
Generally they just add salt or sugar to make food tastier. Not great, but not the work of Dr. Doom either.

MSG disguised in MANY different names is added to MANY different foods that are processed. Supposedly it is addictive and really bad. I am by no means an expert but I keep seeing stuff about it.
Also, these companies want people to continue buying their processed nutrient sparse ****. They have to make it tasty with some addictive chemicals right? I wish I could say that I didn't crave the tastiness of awful foods but I do.
I have many times when I bite into something really unhealthy and think, "why does this taste so damn good?!"0 -
Becky, did you see the documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead? I think that's the name of it. It was eye opening. I knew aspertame was a bad. I didn't know it killed brain cell though.0

not all foods that contain aspartame and MSG are labeled either, like milk.
It tastes so good because they alter it to make it that way! If I eat a potato chip I can guarantee you that I wil eat 3/4 of the bag. I have no self control when it comes to certain foods... which is why I don't buy them.0
