I'm surprised so many people are against this idea. Soups can be more than just liquid! They're a great way to get a lot of vegetables into your diet, and they're wonderfully filling.

Here are some of my favorites. I'm not much of a crockpot user but maybe they can be adapted:

    Red Pepper & Tomato Soup:

    Provençal Greens Soup:

    Curried Cauliflower Soup:

Slow Cooker Black Beans and Rice Soup:

    Minestrone:

I don't have a recipe, but Pho is also great! Just make a fragrant broth including whole spices like star anise, cinnamon, and cloves. Ladle the broth over a bowl full of rice noodles and whatever cooked veggies and protein you want. Top with fresh mint, bean sprouts, jalapeno slices and lime juice.

I agree. Soups are healthy, nutritious and filling. The warning is that they are not all low calorie or low fat. I'd also recommend home-made as canned soups contain a lot of sodium and much of the nutrition has been lost due to overcooking the meats and veggies. The idea behind "soup diets" is generally based on broth based soups that are actually very filling even though they are low calorie. Apparantly something about eating warm/hot broth has a satieting effect on appetite. I generally have soups for lunch and often for dinner.

A brief google list of sites that come when you google "Sacred Heart Diet". This is the soup diet most commonly touted.

Site 1 - my computer warns me there might be a virus there. I didn't check it.

2- Every day diet website, in which it states "This diet is not sponsored by the Sacred Heart Hospital." Also includes tidbits such as 'not sustainable' 'risk of over or undereating', and the solid foods that are allowed are not necessarily nutritious.

3 - A thread from Caloriecount.com, locked as it follows the same sort of conversation that we are having here.

    4- Tumbler. Pro-anorexia hashtags.

5 - Squido - charity site that lists pros (due to calorie restriction, you will lose weight) and cons (that same as Every Diet Website.)

Google isn't a predictor. But it is an indicator.

as long as you avoid cream based soups you should be fine! I sub noodles for sliced leeks because it gives the same noodle slurping pleasure :P and making your soups homemade are waaaaaaay better for you!

I only got one question concerning soup...

People have always stated that it's bad to drink lots of water while eating soo... what about eating veggies and grains floating in the seasoned stuff?

Nothing but soup for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 10 days?!?!??!:noway: I would find it a lot easier just to eat a variety of healthy foods. Fad diets don't work!

I've never heard anything about it being bad to drink water while eating. In fact, it aids in digestion.

    Bump!

You likely won't get a response from the OP.

They always post they are going to do it and then they are never heard from again. I imagine if this sort of thing worked they'd come back and tell us about it.

    Hey!

I hear you can lose weight by only eating a stale crust of bread and drinking a pint of water a day. Its called the 'third world prisoner diet'.....

Sounds legit. I might try that (or maybe I just might stick to being happy...).
