How does one make it on their own? That might be something I can handle LOL

    I make a pumpkin hummus.

    1 can pumkin
2 tbsp tahini paste (roasted sesame paste you can find in any grocery store)
    Handful cilantro
    juice of half lemon
    1 tbsp crushed red pepper
    2-3 cloves garlic
    salt to taste

    Puree all ingredients. Keep refrigerated.

With a spoon! i love hummous. Can't buy it because i eat it all in one go. My favourite is jalapeno hummous.

When i do buy it, i second a lot of the suggestions, veggies, chips, crackers, pittas. I've also used it as the 'sauce' on a pizza dough. Big dollop on salad leaves.

Spread some on bread, top with roasted veggies, make a sandwich. divine!

I make hummus about every other day from whatever bean I happen to have cooked and lying around. I use it as a sauce, spread, dip...you name it!

Good with roasted veggies! I mix 1/2 cup hummus with a head of roasted broccoli.

I love it spread on toast, as a dip for carrots and tortilla chips, and in place of mayonnaise.

In the US., at Whole foods, Earthfare, Krogers, Giant Eagle. Maranatha is a well known brand. You will find it generally where they keep peanut butter etc.

Else try middle eastern grocery stores.

I like it with raw red pepper, baby carrots, bagel bites and pita chips.

I'd love to learn how to make my own someday soon.

I've started cooking the beans in the slow cooker, takes about 3 hours. . A one pound bag will make a LOT of hummus. It's so much easier than doing it on the stove and I'm a cheapskate so I hate buying it in cans.

    Add baby carrots!

Also a decent substitute for mayo/etc. on some types of sandwiches.

One of my favorite snacks. I like to eat it on toasted pita bread or Stacy's Naked Pita Chips or when I'm really watching the calories, I eat it on cucumber slices.

This is my go-to that I got from a friend:

1 can chickpeas/garbonzo beans in water (preferably low-sodium/no salt added)
1/4 c of water from the can
    juice from 1 lemon
    1 1/2 T tahini
1 t minced garlic (or 2 garlic cloves, crushed)
    1/2 t salt
    2 T olive oil
1 dash cayenne pepper, or to taste

Drain peas/beans except 1/4 c into measuring cup. Combine all ingredients into blender or food processor, including reserved water. Blend well for 3-5 minutes or until smooth.

I also just tried a new one that's flavored with sweet corn and roasted jalapeno: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2012/05/sweet-corn-roasted-jalapeno-hummus/

YAY! I have everything here. Guess who is making hummus tonight!!!

Dip for carrots, with baked tortilla chips, sandwich spread, mixed with tuna or chicken in place of mayo for salads, and this recipe - which is absolutely AMAZING http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/hummus-crusted-chicken/

hummus-crusted chicken sounds (and looks) delicious

You can check out epicurious.com for fantastic recipes. I honestly don't know what it doesn't go with. I even use it to dip my hot air popcorn in! Enjoy and Bon Appetite!

I have used plain Hummus as a substitute for cream cheese in a taco dip, Mixed with taco seasoning, there is very little difference. My vegan friends loved it!
