How does one make it on their own? That might be something I can handle LOL
I make a pumpkin hummus.
1 can pumkin
2 tbsp tahini paste (roasted sesame paste you can find in any grocery store)
Handful cilantro
juice of half lemon
1 tbsp crushed red pepper
2-3 cloves garlic
salt to taste
Puree all ingredients. Keep refrigerated.0 -
Dip or I use it on sanwiches instead of mayo!0

With a spoon! i love hummous. Can't buy it because i eat it all in one go. My favourite is jalapeno hummous.
When i do buy it, i second a lot of the suggestions, veggies, chips, crackers, pittas. I've also used it as the 'sauce' on a pizza dough. Big dollop on salad leaves.
Spread some on bread, top with roasted veggies, make a sandwich. divine!0 -
Today i had it with sweet chilli ryvitas! Yum! X0

I have mine with carrots, breadsticks, on a wrap, a side dip for other food, mixed with cottage cheese on a sandwich...0

I make hummus about every other day from whatever bean I happen to have cooked and lying around. I use it as a sauce, spread, dip...you name it!0

Good with roasted veggies! I mix 1/2 cup hummus with a head of roasted broccoli.0

Where do you get tahini paste from, I've never seen it anywhere0
-
I love it spread on toast, as a dip for carrots and tortilla chips, and in place of mayonnaise.0
-
It's also good as a spread on a sandwich.0

In the US., at Whole foods, Earthfare, Krogers, Giant Eagle. Maranatha is a well known brand. You will find it generally where they keep peanut butter etc.
Else try middle eastern grocery stores.0 -
I like it with raw red pepper, baby carrots, bagel bites and pita chips.
I'd love to learn how to make my own someday soon.0 -
I've started cooking the beans in the slow cooker, takes about 3 hours. . A one pound bag will make a LOT of hummus. It's so much easier than doing it on the stove and I'm a cheapskate so I hate buying it in cans.0

How do you make your own hummus?0

Add baby carrots!
Also a decent substitute for mayo/etc. on some types of sandwiches.0 -
One of my favorite snacks. I like to eat it on toasted pita bread or Stacy's Naked Pita Chips or when I'm really watching the calories, I eat it on cucumber slices.0

This is my go-to that I got from a friend:
1 can chickpeas/garbonzo beans in water (preferably low-sodium/no salt added)
1/4 c of water from the can
juice from 1 lemon
1 1/2 T tahini
1 t minced garlic (or 2 garlic cloves, crushed)
1/2 t salt
2 T olive oil
1 dash cayenne pepper, or to taste
Drain peas/beans except 1/4 c into measuring cup. Combine all ingredients into blender or food processor, including reserved water. Blend well for 3-5 minutes or until smooth.
I also just tried a new one that's flavored with sweet corn and roasted jalapeno: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2012/05/sweet-corn-roasted-jalapeno-hummus/
YAY! I have everything here. Guess who is making hummus tonight!!!0 -
Dip for carrots, with baked tortilla chips, sandwich spread, mixed with tuna or chicken in place of mayo for salads, and this recipe - which is absolutely AMAZING http://www.gimmesomeoven.com/hummus-crusted-chicken/
hummus-crusted chicken sounds (and looks) delicious0 -

You can check out epicurious.com for fantastic recipes. I honestly don't know what it doesn't go with. I even use it to dip my hot air popcorn in! Enjoy and Bon Appetite!0 -
I have used plain Hummus as a substitute for cream cheese in a taco dip, Mixed with taco seasoning, there is very little difference. My vegan friends loved it!0
