Maybe you need more fibre, OP. All you ever seem to eat is fibreless fast food and fibreless diet food. More vegetables? I've got a great beef stir fry planned for tonight that has 43g protein, 14g of fibre, 511 calories and six different vegetables. It's pretty easy to make since I've pre chopped all the vegies and I have little bags of steak I sliced ready and waiting in the freezer. Defrosting them takes about four minutes in the microwave. You could eat a lot of good food for the calories you spend on whipped topping and fish burgers.

Bacon comes from the belly not the Butt. Ham comes from the Leg, is that what you meant?

I eat more chocolate now than I did when I was 25 pounds heavier! I had pulled pork poutine everyday last weekend (and fit it in my calories!), I have pasta and alfredo sauce, white hot chocolate, ice cream. Yum Yum!!

    Did we lose OP?

You just started on MFP! When I first started, I thought about food constantly. Now I have slowly learned how to adapt the food to fit within my calorie limit. And yes, I sometimes eat icecream and croissant and yes, I sometimes goes over- but that is a part of the learning progress. Be patient and focus on the healthy thing, you can eat.

I don't mean to attack the OP, but you do realise that not everyone is on MFP or the forums to lose weight, right?

Some of us are athletes who use the site to track our exercise. Some of us are trying to *gasp* gain weight. Some of us are trying to maintain our weight.

Just because some people here don't happen to be here for the same reasons as you, does that mean they shouldn't be able to post about what they're eating or what they're doing? Sorry, but I find the OP incredibly narrow minded, even if it wasn't their intention.

    Dear OP,

Like you, I'm also new to this site. I totally get how you feel because one night while lurking on the boards there was a long thread of chocolate covered bacon, and another that kept talking about cheeseburgers lol. Not much long after that, I splurged and had some crappy foods and felt horrible afterwards lol.. I was so pissed at the people on the boards for promoting such junk, but then after i got over how upset i was, I realized that I had to see in black and white what I used to do to myself, quite often at times. Seeing the numbers starting back at me helped me realize that I really had to take it seriously. Don't get me wrong, i fit in my treats, and comfort foods! There's just portion control and moderation blah blah.. I know sometimes people on here can seem like they're scoffing or turning up noses, but the truth is they've all been there too eating Hardees, etc. Reminds me of how when I quit smoking, and would look down at others who still did it (and catch myself, like hey bia you've been there too!). They are no better than you, and don't let negative feedback hinder your goals. There's a lot of good info on this site, but there's also a lot of know-it-alls with inner fatgirl/boy angst. Good luck to you.

To try and avoid the topic or the consumption of yummy, delicious food altogether, only makes a person crave it more. Especially if they're hungry.

Where's the fun and enjoyment in your weigh-loss journey if your aim is to just eat bland, untasteful foods? Food is not the enemy here, you need to find a balance whereby you can enjoy all sorts of lovely food, in moderation, not avoid it altogether. Not only will you be more likely to stick to your weight-loss plan in the long term, but you'll also be happier for it.

If you struggle that greatly with temptation that others on the internet cause you to give in and overeat, then maybe you shouldn't be on the forums.

Talking about yummy food is positive talk. You don't have to eat tasteless, boring food to lose weight. Just focus on staying within your calorie limit and enjoy life!:flowerforyou:

    Whodathunkit?!

You mean every person that isn't overweight isn't fuelling themselves solely on chicken and broccoli?

This is my gripe, quit talking about all delicious food you ate and did bad.

Cant you talk about how you went to the gym or dealt with a situation and didnt eat.

Cant you talk about your strength when you said No to seconds.

We need motivation, when you talk negative and all those delicioius meals, it makes me want to EAT!
Don't read them or get some will power. Either one will work.

Right, simply ignore the threads about poptarts and ice cream or whatever it is that is disturbing you so much. That seems pretty obvious.

I eat delicious food all the time. I also enjoy the posts on MFP about what others are eating. I can't eat certain things due to my health issues, but I get a kick out of seeing other people enjoying those foods that I used to enjoy, too. Perhaps I'm able to do that because I genuinely ENJOY and look forward to everything I eat, so I'm not feeling deprived in the slightest. I had a lovely dinner the past couple nights of braised duck legs with veggies, by the way. I've done pretty well at this weight loss game, and am still doing it. I have never needed to go hungry, pass up something I really wanted to eat, or avoid looking at photos or descriptions of foods.

There is absolutely no reason you have to go about weight loss in this rather grim way. Eat foods that you like, and/or change your tastes! Tastes do change, by the way--I saw that someone else posted about that earlier in the thread. If you stopped with the fast food, you would probably find other, healthier foods that are way more tasty and satisfying. That beef/veggie stir fry someone mentioned sounded great to me. Gotta use your imagination, find some nice recipes, focus on trying new stuff.

I think there are lots of posts about "NSVs" on the site if you were to look for them, and you'd probably find a number of those sorts of posts you're hoping to see about people making healthy food choices, exercising more, etc. etc. I see them all the time.

Oh, and your calories are probably too low, as well. You do sound "hangry", as they say.

    Good luck.

I find the fact you can eat yummy food and do non-punishing, enjoyable exercise and still lose weight the most motivational things about using MFP. Because of this, I've stuck with it for more than two years now, far longer than any other healthy lifestyle initiative :flowerforyou:

Actually, I get what you are saying and find your feelings understandable.

I guess if you are new to dieting and struggling hearing about other people's ability to incorporate foods which you are craving and traditionally classed as "non diet" food must be difficult. It can come across like "Oh, look what I can eat and lose weight but you can't. That's because you is ignorunt and I is awesome." I don't think it's intentioned that way mainly but if you are struggling it sometime must come across that way. I also think that on occasion people who have managed to secure dietary restraint and set up their diet in a workable way can be insensitive (myself included) to people new to dieting and are having a hard time.

Part of this also stems from people's traditional views of what dieting needs to be: overly restrictive, boring, bland, almost like a punishment. I don't blame people for viewing it that way as in the past these unhealthy messages were pushed by the so called "health" industry and still is to this day.

Lastly, I actually think that sometimes totally eliminating certain items from your diet can be a good thing in the short term before they are slowly introduced. If your palate has been conditioned by over sweet foods for example then other things may seem very bland by comparison and unpalatable. Therefore a short period where you "reset" yourself as it were can help eliminate cravings or greatly reduced them.

    I wish you every success.

    Hey OP,

As others have stated, "yummy" will begin to change the longer you stick with eating healthier things and eat less fatty foods, as well as you'll look forward to having those healthy meals; personally I haven't yet made it to the point where I am craving leafy greens, but I certainly can pass on some of the fatty processed foods I used to eat  I've also learned to watch my portions so I am able to treat myself to something the inner fat girl inside of me wants

Also take this as an opportunity to see how you can make your favorite dishes lighter so that you're happy after eating :flowerforyou: Not everyone here is an iron chef, but it is fun getting to learn how to make new dishes and being able to share recipes and ideas.

I don't get how yummy food isn't positive. What, I should post more about depriving myself and feeling righteous for being hungry?

Life is too short for non-yummy food. If I can't have a positive relationship with yummy food, then I'm not doing it right. Now bRB, I want some chocolate.
  • Or at the very least, you should be talking about yummy food that you made HEALTHIER! You don't have to eat "yucky" food to lose weight, but sharing delicious recipes that are good for you and not full of wasted calories might be helpful and inspiring to others.
