Please post your MOST IMPORTANT weight loss tip :)

If you could give a stranger who knows nothing about weight loss just one tip, what would it be?

Mine: Spend your money on produce, if you don't like fruits and vegetables, learn to like them and eat as many of them as you can so that you don't have any room left in your diet for unhealthy foods.

I think there already is a thread like this, but, I 'd say : log your calories. That is just so eye opening. Lots of thing are just not worth the calories at all.

Log EVERYTHING you put in your mouth.

Don't set a time frame of how long you will "diet" i.e. "I'm doing 1200 calories till I lose 20lbs" It's a lifestyle change. No keeps those unrealistic standards and ever more rarely do they keep the weight off. Focus on health the weight loss is a bonus.

    Be patient.

"ONE BAD meal isn't going to make you fat... just like ONE GOOD meal isn't going to make you skinny"

Allow yourself to give into temptation once and a while, it will save yourself from binge eating later on ;)

Eating breakfast and drinking a ton of water (these are the most important for me anyway). To each their own.
  • Eat enough (to lose weight). If you eat too little you'll end up being so starving hungry you'll eat everything in sight and lose nothing!

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that fad diets and junk science will save you from consuming more calories than you burn.

    1. Eat less calories than you burn.
    2. There is a difference between fat loss and weight loss - do resistance training to protect your LBM.

With just these two pieces of advice, you'll get at least 80% of the benefit of everything said on this site. Everything else is diminishing returns, and pointless if you don't follow rules 1&2.

This! I was woefully unaware of how many calories I was consuming before I started on MFP. No wonder I wasn't losing when I tried before!

Don't give up. It's never too late to start getting yourself healthy. Make small changes and go from there as things start falling into place.
