How Important Is Your Music to You Workouts?

I realized I was getting bored with my workouts and runs and couldn't pin-point why. Until it hit me...it was my music! I was tired of hearing the same songs come up on my Ipod and realized that my music is an important component to staying motivated in working out. That being said, I bought and loaded new music onto my Ipod and found myself looking forward to working out and running again.
So...if you find yourself losing motivation, perhaps you should consider changing up your music. ;-)
Was just curious if anyone else feels the same about their workouts and music?

I agree 110%. I am the same way, I notice that when I get bored with the music my workout seems horrible. I have to change it up often. :happy:0

Absolutely the same!
No music, no workouts will happen.
Old music, boring workouts will happen.
New music, great workouts will happen.0 -
I can lift without the music, but cannot run without it.0

100%. My gym plays Terrible lifting music. If I forget my own it is just Hell0

I can lift without the music, but cannot run without it.
Agree. Critical on treadmill. BORING Lol0 -
I truly believe you have to have the right music in order to get a good workout in.0

Completely Agree!!! Sometimes I go with no music at all cause I get bored of the same stuff. I can have a good lifting workout or outside cardio without any music at all. but cardio in the gym I have to have some good tunes going or I get bored out of my mind.0 -
I enjoy my runs a lot more when I have music. If I forget to charge my ipod, I really miss it.0

I can train without music, but I find I am not as motivated and my workouts are not as intense. Good music makes all the difference.0

It depends on the time I go for a run. If it's in the early morning, heavy music is too much. The peaceful sounds of birds all around is just great. But other times or on the treadmill, I need a good beat!0

I am the same. I am really tired of my music. I am on the treadmill for an hour and having to listen to the same playlist gets boring. Today is my day off so I am going to make a new one for tomorrow!0

on days I'm not with my trainer, VERY. The angrier the music the harder I work.0

If I don't have my early 90s Richard Simmons workout music.... well then there isn't a point.0

I agree 100% with this:
No music, no workouts will happen.
Old music, boring workouts will happen.
New music, great workouts will happen.0 -
No music... no workout.0

I don't listen to music when I work out. I either to an exercise video or if I'm on the elliptical I read a book. My husband calls me a nerd. lol0

I have literally walked out of the gym if I get there and forgot my earbuds. Yes, that is somewhat extreme, but I can't lift without music.0
-
If I'm doing a cardio machine, I simply can't get in the zone without music.0

Music is pretty much the only way I get through my workouts. I'm not up for casually popping into the gym like some of my friends do. If I go I go to work hard and there's no way I could if I didn't have any music.0
-
it is absolutely critical! Which reminds me, I need to download some new tunes....0

I don't listen to music when I run.
I'm about 50/50 when I workout, doesn't really make any difference for me.0 -
I cannot work out without music, at all what-so-ever.0

Totally important. The music they pump into my gym is crap to say the least. Definitely need my ipod so I can get some high tempo tunes going. Nothing worse than trying to workout to ballads!
I notice it at spin class too, especially when they have us doing sprints. One instructor has just the right songs to beast it to, it winds up pace wise so before you know it, you're flat out! Awesome.0 -
I lift in what used to be my photo studio. I still have my computer equipment in there (It's still my space, no matter what I'm doing with it), and have Spotify installed and listen to it fairly regularly, given the variety of music I can put together on playlists.
The router needed to be rebooted, so there was no internet connection, the newest playlist had not been switched to be able to listen offline, and it all just stopped. It sucked the fun right out of my workout, and believe me, I don't sing well when I'm trying to squat heavy, LOL...
Much depends on the mood I'm in, so I run the gamut of 80's new wave to Hollywood Undead, and some other bizarre stuff in between.
No music, no workie...
ETA: The actual point was that if the music dies, so does the workout...0 -
Yeah, it always helps me step it up when there's some upbeat music to work out to. That, or watching some extreme weight loss show on TV while I cycle (I have a stationary bike in front of the TV). Anything that gets you going! 80's music or just about anything with a solid dance beat usually gets me going.0

I turned around and drove home once when I realized my mp3 player was dead after getting to the gym. lol.
I'm not that much of a slack-*kitten* anymore, but yeah, have to have some music.0 -
Music is VITAL! To the extent I customize my playlists on a weekly basis. Using EDM for Cardio & Hip-Hop/Reggaeton for Weights. Essentially whatever gets you hyped for each...0

I like music for high intensity workouts and for low intensity workouts I load up on the audio books. I get lots of free classics off librivox.0
-
Agreed. I have done this.0
-
I totally depend on music for a good work-out.0
