Just curious if you post your food to your diary ahead of time? Do you feel this is a helpful tactic or not?

I sometimes plan my entire day. It helps. I make sure I have my after dinner snack accounted for, so I don't jeopardize not being able to have it.

I usually log what I have planned for dinner in the morning when I log breakfast and it seems to help me make better choices for lunch.

I usually post my breakfast and lunch for the next day, the night before. I think it helps me to stay on track.

I plan ahead as much as I can, I find it helps me to stick to it better.

I often do, it helps me to have things planned out and it helps me know what I can tweak if things go sideways earlier in the day.

This works great if you tend to eat compulsively. It helps me avoid those little indulgences that wreck my calorie total for the day.

Yes, I sometimes pre-log. It helps me stay on track for the day and I know if there are any 'spare' calories left so I can enjoy some treats at the end of the day.

If I already have dinner planned, I will log ahead, and it helps me to think better about lunch and snacks. Sometimes I do it to keep me from forgetting about it later that night. Lol

    Hi,

I always post my food for the day every morning Mondays - Fridays but not weekends :) thats only because all my meals in the week are pretty much planned out and i find it easy to follow and keeps me on track knowing what calories i have left after ive had all my meals :)

Absolutely, especially work days. I eat the same breakfast, lunch and snack and I know I have had 6 glasses of water by the time I leave work. I have plenty to work out dinner and afternoon tea if I want. Weekends are different, although I do try and have the same breakfast.

I think it definitely helps to plan ahead. I always try and eat before I get too hungry because if I haven't planned, I may make a bad decision that I will regret.

Most of the time yes. I use it to figure out how many calories / fats I'm having for meals and then what snacks I might be able to have in between. It especially helps as motivation to exercise when I'm feeling lazy, even more so when people congratulate me on burning calories / working out. No excuses then!

If I post my food for the day first thing in the morning it really helps to keep me on track. When I don't I tend to slide a bit and not track everything I am supposed to!

As much as I can, but life happens. I don't get upset if I have to re-log something different.

I always know what I will be eating the next day for the most part and have started plugging that stuff in the night before. I eat a lot of the same foods for breakfast/lunch so it's easy to plan and it works well for me. I usually leave myself as decent chunk of cals for dinner and after dinner snack.

well I don't and it's worked out okay for me so far. I don't want to be "stuck" having to eat what I said I would and it gives me some flexibility ... if I end up going out for lunch, I know I need to have a small calorie dinner to make up for that (or whatever)

I plan for breakfast and dinner. I have classes that are back to back so sometimes I don't get to have lunch until 1pm. So at least that way I can make a choice on what to eat for lunch already knowing what my calorie count is for the rest of the day.

i tried this for 1 day, and liked it, it would work best if i'm not eating frequently and put in simple things like turkey burger with broccoli for dinner. i haven't been logging long though and i tend not to eat the same thing all the time. if you do the same ingredients over and over it could save some time

I always pre-log my food for the next day or next couple of days if I know what i'm gonna be doing. I work in an office all week so i plan each day out as i usually have to take most of the days food with me anyway. For me, it has proven to be super successful because i don't have the worry of not knowing what I'll be eating or what is in it.

    Good luck with your journey!

I do tend to do it for the days I work, since I pack my lunches anyway. It also helps keep me from straying.

I often go through and put in the foods I expect to eat during the day and then in the evening, go make any adjustments that are needed.
  • After the evening meal I log that meal and the next days breakfast, lunch and snacks. It doesn't take very long and I know exactly how many calories I have left to work with the next day.

Almost always (weekends are more difficult) It helps me stay on track yes, and to have treats when I have room. And also, if I plan out the day and see my macro's are a bit off, I can tweak it. I usually have to drop some carbs and add some protein. I struggle with that balance. Pre-tracking helps me see it.

Not for my every day food. I will pre-log if I'm going out (to figure out the best option), or if I want to indulge in something, to see how much "damage" it will do to my day.

I do the same, it helps me committ to it... Also because of my work schedule, i cook my family dinner the night before or the morning of, so it's ususally logged. I'm also a student & don't get home until late on class nights so i pack my lunch, dinner & snacks so i know what I'm supposed to have... IF i happen to stray, i just adjust, but 8 times out of 10 I stick to it!

At my job, I'm at a computer for the majority of the day, so I don't have to "HUNT" for something to eat when its my break time, I just go to MFP & see what i am 'scheduled' to have... Takes all the 'guess work' out.

I've been logging my food and exercise the night before. It helps me not forget to eat the fruits and vegetables I bought (don't get me wrong, I *love* them, but sometimes if the broccoli gets pushed to the back of the fridge or something, I think I've run out and don't realize I was wrong until it's too late), and it reminds me what exercise I've planned to do. I make adjustments as needed. For instance, I'm *really* hungry right now for some reason, so I'll be swapping my light lunch with my much more satisfying dinner.

I don't prelog snacks, though. I've usually got a couple hundred calories of wiggle room, so if I need to munch on a bunch of nuts or have a scoop of ice cream (sometimes that is a need), it's cool. Also, if I end up missing part of my planned exercise, I'll live.

When I don't prelog an entire day, I do log right before I make my meal or right before I eat. Often that leads to better choices (like cutting down the oil in one of my stir-fry recipes -- still tasted great!). Sometimes, though, I really don't care what the calorie damage is. I still log first, but then I plow on ahead. As long as that doesn't happen everyday, it's no big deal.
