I am more gassy when I eat more fresh fruit and veg but not to the point of discomfort.
However, the only time I got gas so bad that it hurt was when I quit chewing nicotine gum and replaced it with sugar free gum with sugar alcohols like xylitol. That was so painful that I refused to even try to hold it in. I switched to Wrigley's with real sugar which solved the problem.0 -

the yogurt enzymes are GREAT for helping with this, unless youre lactose intolerant

Also, even though I can't eat most dairy products, I can eat all the greek yogurt in the world and not be bothered.0 -
It might be, can you make an appointment to get your allergies tested?
Probably, I might just do that. Knowing my doc he'll just tell me if I think I'm allergic to it, don't eat it :laugh:0 -
Protein = FART
Classic and so true. Protein...Protein ...Protein
Exercise is also a contributor to "expel-li-a-tion" my made up terminology. Watch out for the sit-ups/crunches. Sneak up on ya every time.0 -

Excess protein can make one gassy, as well as green veggies. Sometimes taking digestive enzymes can help. I think "beano" is a digestive enzyme supplement.0

I used to be bloated and gassy all the time! Found out I'm celiac (autoimmune reaction to gluten- wheat, barley, and rye protein). I've cut out gluten from my diet.. hardly any bloating or gas anymore.
Many people have reactions to certain foods but are unaware. Listen to your body.. maybe talk to your doc0 -

I recommend going to a specialist (allergy doc or gastro) for allergy testing. I just had my son tested for lactose intolerance by our allergy doc. They did one of the tests in the office (skin test) and not only tested for lactose intolerance but also gluten, corn, and several other things. Then, they sent us to the gastroenterologist department for the other lactose test (you drink lactose and then do a breathing test - takes 1-3 hours if I remember correctly). I think it would help for you to rule out any food allergies. My son had a very low level lactose intolerance. Given our family history with lactose intolerance, I started having him take Lactaid with consumption of all dairy and I can't tell you how much that has helped (he had constipation and gas). He's not a veggie consumer at all so I also started trying to make sure he had a piece of fruit with every meal. Good luck!0 -

Lose the legumes. See how it goes. Take it one step at a time, eliminating suspicious contributors.
Don't have to give up beans! Just eat beans and NOT lentils, and add bay leaves to your beans whenever you make them. You can also drink peppermint tea or chamomile to relieve the gas, but if it's really bad (and sometimes it is!) drink a straight teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar. It'll subside within minutes.0 -

If it smells pretty bad that's usually an indicator of something you probably shouldn't have eaten, ie an allergy or a food you don't digest well. Best to see a dietician, or for some, (not all people agree with this, either,) you can look up your blood type and check out the Eat-for-your-blood-type diet's list of "Avoids" for you. I've recommended this to more than a few people I've met, and everyone who's tried avoiding their type's "Avoids" has had success.0 -
Charcoal tablets! Get them in the vitamin section. My brother, the gassiest human on earth, swears by them.0

Eat mint sauce with things like bean salads. Eat live yoghurt. Don't drink water after eating beans. Keep walking. Make some chai - cloves, cardamons, fennel etc.0

So, this is kinda embarrassing guise. But, no matter how healthy I eat, I'm always gassy
Does anyone have experience with being that way? Did cutting something out of your diet help alleviate this? Thanks in advance.
What foods are you eating? Do you skip any meals? I have IBS and a book I purchased on it explained that if you skip meals, especially breakfast it can cause gas and bloating thoughout the day. Also certain foods cause gas and bloating such as: green peppers, onions, watermelon, honey dew melon, cucumbers, etc0 -
Lactose is the most likely cause. Approximately 75% of people will have some form of intolerance to lactose as with most mammals the lactase enzyme ceases production after weaning so they cannot digest lactose. In humans though there has been a level of lactase persistence which explains the 25% that do not have any intolerance at all.0

After most of my meals I drink a nice strong Mint tea.. it helps with digestion..
I also find after a good zumba session that it loosens it all up and I can be quite trumpy after.. but mine smell of roses..0 -
For me it was soda. I would get such stomach pains and would be gassy from both ends. For my husband it is greesy foods, and a friend of mine it was dairy products.
We all have different things that do it to us I guess. I would start cutting things out of your diet, slowly for a week at a time (just like introducing new foods to a baby) and see if any of it makes the gas go away. If it does you found the problem, if it doesn't try taking something else away.
Another thing you could do ( we did this for a food allergy for my daughter) is use your food dairy since you are recording your foods anyway, and when you get gassy take a look at what foods you have eaten. By tracking you might see a pattern of what you are eating that is doing it to you.

Thanks to everyone who responded! These were all super helpful! I think what I'll do it just avoid all dairy products until I can get an allergy test done (you would think I already do considering I'm LI, but I'm a big sucker for cheese :bigsmile:)
As far as other foods go, it may be the super high amount of protein I'm eating compared to the very little I was having before. I did look up foods for my blood type, and it says to avoid red meat...which made me literally laugh out loud because there is just no way that was going to happen! :laugh: I am very much a meat and potatoes gal and red meat has never given me a problem. Yesterday it was horrible and I didn't have any meat at all save the salmon at lunch. But, it was an interesting read so I thank you for that!0 -
For me a huge problem is soda and beer :drinker: , really anything carbonated --> serious gas.
Oh and also cruciferous (sp?) veggies are big gas makers (i.e. broccoli and cauliflower). They're good for you so keep eating them but maybe not if you're going out that night or not at work for lunch :laugh:

I USED to be gassy. Then about 2 years ago I cut out gluten. Pain, bloating, gas: GONE.
Everyone is different. I'd seen doctors, I'd tried more fiber, less fiber...
Removing gluten was the key for me.0
