Protieeeennn!!

I need more of it! I don't eat a lot of meat (just not really my thing, but not vegetarian). However I have noticed the more protein I eat, the better I feel... So, Any recommendations? I'm heading to the store in a couple hours... I'd like to know what to look for, instead of just wandering aimlessly..

Edit: I'm kinda looking for non-meat options...

I have a similar problem, I never seem to get enough protein.

I have found protein shakes help me a lot and my other protein secret weapons are beef jerky along with tinned fish.

I tend to snack on 30g of beef jerky when I am hungry and the jaw movement seems to help me with my hunger and I get 15g of protein for only 100kcal too! I think this seems like a win-win but don't eat too much of it because it does contain a fair bit of sodium.

Thank you for the suggestion... but that's not gonna happen... I'm not an egg person...

protein powder, tofu, fish (from what I have noticed, the fatty fishes are higher in protein and also have the great Omega 3s so stick with salmon etc if you can), nuts of any kind, seeds, quinoa, chia seeds

edit: check my diary for ideas

Sam's has some protein shakes that are 30 g protein with only one g carb. I find they work pretty good. Dont taste bad either. Cheese is good to. Almonds are good too.

You don't eat eggs or meat.. two of the biggest protein givers.

My suggestion, stop being picky and eat what your supposed to... is that going to happen? No, probably not, but it's worth a shot.

Like others said, greek yogurt, fish, protein shakes and peanut butter all pack a punch, but eggs/meat are going to be your best bet.

If someone took my tuna away I would punch them squarely on the nose.

    Then kill their immediate family.

You need to have some vegan protein powders to make a lot of the stuff on here - but she has plenty of vegan recipes that may be straight up your alley. MAN they are GOOD too.

Aside from most of the things already listed here, I also like the frozen steam-bags of edamame or mukimame. Soy milk is fairly high in protein too.

Tofu and beans have more protein than eggs........hmm, never mind, maybe not. Excuse my misguided-ness.
So if I grab me some protein powder (which will feel really weird, like I need to be wearing gym shorts and a mustache. Lol) what kind do I get, because to tell you the truth, if I have to do it on my own, I'm just gonna pick the prettiest container..
  • Nuts, any kind, walnuts, pecans, almonds, cashews.....

I was going to say... You eat 2 eggs, and have the same amount of protein as some beans or eat 100 calories worth of Tofu, and only have 2 more grams of protein then when you eat an egg.

As far as protein powders go, I like Myofusion brand. Others like Optimum Nutrition.

Honestly, you'll probably want to go somewhere like GNC or something for your protein powder in my opinion. I don't recommend the protein powders that you find in the grocery store because A) They don't taste as good and B) more importantly, they don't usually contain a robust amino acid composition - so they're pretty worthless

I order all my protein powders offline and my favorite brand is Dymatize. I'd go with the elite whey vanilla protein to start which is great for any shake you want to make. Chocolate fudge and cafe mocha are also VERY good (even in water) and if you want to get fancy check out the elite gourmet casein/whey blends which have fun flavors like cookies and cream and strawberries and cream - yummy!

Dymatize isn't the only brand out there though. I know many who swear by Spirutein and optimum nutrition as well - I've just never branched out to try those myself.

EDIT: Myofusion is also great :)

I eat "too much" protein on most days! I'm already over my goal today with just 40g of Fruit and Fibre for breakfast and a tuna steak for lunch.

I did a fair bit of research on protein supplements, because I wanted to begin using them, but wanted to stay as organic and little to no processing as possible.
Here are three options I settled upon.

Garden of Life "Raw Protein" Certified organic, plant based, but no soy. Great!

Tera'swhey "Grass-Fed" organic whey powder. Love this product and the company/owner's mindset! I just found it on sale at Lucky Vitamin for something like $16.75 per 12 oz. container.

Protein 17 "Pasture-Fed" organic whey powder, minimal heat when processing. I like this one a lot too, but it is much more expensive than Tera'swhey and I can't find out much about the company/owner. I'm leaning toward Tera'swhey, more because I want to support a company that is eco and community conscious as they are.

    Bon chance! :)
