    we're overweight because while we eat like we used to, our lifestyle has changed drastically. We eat 3,000+ calories but to even go to the corner store we use a car. How can we expect to stay fit if we pull crap like this?

    Also, the chefs on there are doing the right thing. Food is NOT something to be scared of. Portions are. They're a business and they have to do whats right for them which is to make as many of their customers happy as possible. Salt is taste. Sugar is taste. Butter is taste. Large portion is satisfaction.

    Eat right, move more. Thats all you need to lose weight

    Have you ever seen him FINISH the entire entree? He takes a bite or 2. Make yummy noises. Moves on. He tries to portion control...

    Ok, I'll admit it. I love this show. There I said it.

    But I watch the chefs... A little bit of salt (1/4 cup) a dash of sugar (another 1/4 cup) fry in a bit of oil (half cup) finished it with a dash of butter (maybe a tablespoon this time) and a sprinkle of salt (a half teaspoon or half of your daily allowance) and Voila, it's ready to serve!

    And then we wonder why we are overweight? (and drueling)

    Being that I'm from Jersey and we're famous for having 24-hour diners here, I enjoy the show too and yes it leaves me drooling sometimes as well :) BUT it reminds me why it's important that I try to do as much of the cooking for my meals as possible- I won't add the salt (mind you I was crazy for salt when I was younger and had to learn to not put extra salt on my meals), I can skip the sugar (in most things), I can fry in less oil or olive oil, and I certainly won't put a dash (or a tablespoon) of butter on my meals (growing up I never knew people put butter AND syrup on their pancakes ~ my husband introduced me to that (big mistake) but most times I just scrap off the butter).

    One of the most important things I know I can do for myself is to stop eating out and actually cook my own meals. :)

    Yeah I can't watch Man vs Food ~ I feel sorry for the guy and I think it makes Americans look like fat a$$es for having eating competitions like that. I'm sure other countries have competitions as well but most Americans are so overweight it's not encouraging us to lose weight.

    You know, in France (where I come from), shows like this simply don't exist.

    First, because we believe that food should be in moderation and that food should be fresh and healthy.

    Cooking shows in french include cooking up a storm with good quality, fresh products... And France is not overweight.


    Unfortunately cooking shows are all over the place in the USA.

    I was only at one place Guy raved about. It was a place in Miami called Benny's and we went to try a dish called mofongo.

    We had seen Guy go on and on about it on an episode of Best Thing I Ever Ate.

    We were very disappointed. It tasted like stove top stuffing with chicken broth.

    I'm not saying Benny's doesn't make a kick *kitten* mofongo, just that I guess we don't like mofongo. :yawn:

    Edited to say I do indulge in all those " no no" foods pretty often. For me portion control and having a proper balance is key. Obviously I'm not a fitness model or anything, but I've done pretty well with my weight loss so far, even with occasionally eating high fat "bad food".
    Gino's East. Mmmmm. Last time I was in Seattle (before I started my fitness journey), we hit two of the spots Adam visited, thanks to that show. Found out a six-egg omelette with all those sides really was too much food. . . but so worth the trip.

    I love DD&D and actually find that a healthy dose of food porn helps satisfy my cravings for many of those less than healthy foods. When I had my VSG weight loss surgery in Mexico last month, I was on clear liquids for a week after surgery while my stomach was healing. I very contently watched DD&D on the plane home while I sipped on my water.

    The way I look at it Food Porn is like real porn in that just because you might like to watch some of that the over the top crazy fantasy stuff.... doesn't mean you are necessarily going to ACTUALLY do that in real life.


    Man-vs- food on the other hand is just too much for me. It makes me feel ill.

    The amount of butter, oil and cream is why restaurant food always tastes better than home cooked. I like plain food but, the richness of these ingredients does make it taste better. I do agree, when they say " 1 teaspoon" they use 1/4 cup!!! A big difference in calories and yes, taste and texture.

    It's my understanding the dish is likely shared with the crew that accompanies the host. I believe the same occurred when Alton Brown did "Feasting on Asphalt".
