Alcohol made me do it....

...well, not really. I did it myself. My diary is open and I've logged what turned into a shocking Monday night. Just one glass of wine won't hurt, I said. Next thing I know, I'm into my second bottle and raiding the house for all the NOM-NOMS I could find. Chocolate, crackers, pastry. Several thousand calories later, I crash out on the couch, tipsy and dizzy from the sugar.
My one consolation was the hour and a half I spent dancing around the lounge room to YouTube videos while drinking, although I didn't break a sweat so I'm NOT counting that as exercise.
All in all, I guess I've identified what a trigger alcohol can be for me. The fact I can't seem to stop at one glass and the fact it leads me into making food choices based on poor judgement was the reason I was attempting to do a booze-free April. I had made it through until last night.
I have logged IT ALL!!! No sense hiding from what I've done. I will also fess up to my fiance that I drank alcohol (he is aware I had a goal of not drinking during April) and show him what I ate.
Does alcohol affect your food choices? Any advice from fellow drinkers? What's the best thing to do for your body post-binge?

Been there a few times. As long as I don't do all the time, every weekend or week, I don't have a problem with it.0

I've discovered that binging is binging. The tendency is inside you to over indulge in whatever. I am battling the same problem at the moment. I had stopped drinking completely when I was losing weight. I've started again now that I'm trying to maintain weight loss and build strength. Sorry I have no answers, just commiserating, I suppose. I ALWAYS want pizza, burritos, poutine or street meat if I've been drinking. If I'm out somewhere, I usually make sure I get it. Been a lot better about it lately, but I definitely feel your pain!0

I found that once I had one drink I always wanted more. My best intentions to moderate were pushed aside in favor of "just one more". I finally realized that if one always (or almost always, at least) turned into more than I intended to drink then I should not have that first drink. So I don't.

I am good most of the time...but sometimes those wine munchies get me binging so bad. I would just let it turn into a "cheat day."
I realize the problem now and prelogging really helps me. Pre log my wine, drink it and be merry, then GO TO BED. :laugh:0 -
We've all been there at least once. I wouldn't worry about it too much; ;just get back on track tomorrow and you'll be fine. Now I want wine!0

Asians don't handle alcohol well. A little for me turns more into a food bonanza than anything else. I log it and move on.0

Just one glass of wine.... never ends there for me. I can't trust myself, and booze munchies always mean an added thousand calories in takeout and/or ice cream. For that reason, I am trying to abstain completely at the moment, until I hit my next goal.
A little naughtiness every once in a while is OK, as long as we're not doing it all the time. So give yourself a break and accept that you're human. Sounds like you had a great night in though!0 -

I tend to miss out on eating enough calories on weekends because of how much Im on the road so killing a 12 pack is both relaxing and helps me reach my calories, granted it probably isn't the best way, but I don't see any one cooking my food for me.0

This was my sunday night too. All you can do is hydrate, and get your butt moving the next day. Wine is so good though...0

Lol so much this. I went to Vegas for my birthday and was quite content to not eat a lot because food was expensive, and I'd get a better buzz from less alcohol (which was also expensive)0 -
It's so hard to give up alcohol when dieting. I'm so used to having a beer or two after work and splurging more on the weekends. I'm also trying to cut out wheat and gluten, so beer is doubly bad. And when I do slip, I'm like you and it's rarely one. It's a 6 pack (or more) and eating anything fried and delicious is the least of my bad choices. lol!0

No don't. There are other ways if you need help. That's a bloody depressing place to have to go forever when you don't have to.0 -
EVERY time I drink I binge! Its horrific, I think ih ill have all this crap because then hopefully I wont have a hangover tomorrow and it will soak up the alcohol in my stomach. Not true, I wake up with a stonking hangover and so much regret and disgust about what I actually managed to fit into my body I tried the no alchol attempt but my whole social life revolves around alcohol and going out. My try for next weekend is to just not drink as much (she says now) or what I have thought many times is to include what alcohol I plan to drink into my daily calorie allowance and use the rest of it up on a big filling dinner then only eat half of it and save the other half for when im drunk and wanting to eat! Not tried it yet but think it might be a good idea?0

Thankfully, I don't usually binge after drinking but I do take in way too many calories with just the alcohol or wine. I also seem to have a problem stopping after 1 even when I promise myself the sun and the moon! May be it's time for me to climb back on the wagon and dry out a bit again?!?!?0

You know I used to do that all the time. One glass, two bottles...what I found helpful was to track how many calories I had left for the day (prior to drinking) and if I saved enough calories, I would have a glass of wine; in saying that, I have healthy snacks around the house such as "sugar peas/snap peas" (perfect munch and give you a "fake" sugar rush. I also have low calorie weight watchers...and my favorite (when I tried to lose weight for my wedding) was sugar-free ice pops. I ate like 15 and it gave me that self-destruction satisfaction without the guilt!0

This and many other reasons are why I don't drink, being an addict alcohol is extremely dangerous and its easy to say you don't have a problem because unlike drugs alcohol use and abuse is very mainstream making denial easy.
I am not suggesting that you have a problem but many people do without realizing it and I will say I am much happier and healthier since I quit drinking! I have a lot more energy, my work outs are much better, my sleep is infinitely better, I no longer regret decisions, no memory loss, less likely to make bad food choices and I don't take in all those empty calories from alcohol or alcohol food binges. Plus hang overs make it wicked hard to get in a good work out the next day if you manage to work out at all! Now I am in no way preaching or trying to act holier than thou as I realize most people do not drink like I did however I am stating that many people have quit drinking for a variety of reasons and very few regret that decision !
Perhaps try not drinking for 30 days and see how you feel0 -
Been there, done that. The best thing to do is to start your healthy routine again. If you need help with drinking, get it. It will not get better by itself. I had to quit completely. Once I got home (from work) there was always something brown in a glass, in my hand, and down my throat. I was a functional alcholic. Had to turn to Christ for help. Now I never touch the stuff. I know I was headed for trouble. Haven't had a drink in over 8 years. Yeah for me. Good luck to you.

Thank you for posting this. Last night made me realise my alcohol intake is not fine and dandy, I was CRAVING it over the weekend, which was a very scary feeling. It is similar to when I quit smoking (years back); I didn't realise I was addicted until I tried to stop. I do have addiction in the family so I think it's time to address it.0
