thoughts on artificial sweetners?

Lots of people spout of opinion or information from "what they heard". The problem with misinformation is that unknowledgeble people on the subject end up believing it and spreading it too.

So far everything you have posted is mere opinion as well. Where is your - or anyone for that matter's - evidence to prove that using artificial sweeteners are NOT bad for you?
Regardless, it always comes back to the fact that it is a chemical you are putting in your body. We are not designed to eat foods that are created in a lab no matter what you choose to believe. And just because the FDA approves something doesn't mean it's actually safe. Money speaks my friend. Do YOUR research.
And because you asked here's a peer reviewed clinical study:

Was this an independently funded study? I'd like to know who funded it since the only studies I can find to show it as safe are funded by the industry. See below links for reference:

Honestly, peer reviewed, means it can be challenged, but you have to challenge it with scientific method using the same procedures, dosages, etc. to see if there's different outcome. There are several peer reviewed studies on artificial sweeteners and the one common thing I see on the ANTI side is the dosage to deem it being bad.
No doubt dosage has a lot to do with it. So if someone drank a case of diet soda a day, then they are probably going to be in a lot of trouble eventually. But the same would happen if you ate large amount of tilapia daily (even if it was fresh and not farmed).
Dosages by most ANTI studies put it at about the equivalent of 20 liters of diet soda daily. That's not biased?
Let's just say that personally I've been drinking diet soda (not more than 2 cans a day) for over 25 years (over half my life) and haven't experienced any of the travesties physically or in my blood work. Based on research that I've studied on artificial sweeteners, I'm siding with the "safe to consume" since my own experience (and many many others who are fit that I know) reflects that.

I drink three cups of coffee per day with 1 teaspoon of sugar in each cup and I have lost 16 lbs in 30+ days. I would use sugar and not artificial sweetners. For the little amount of calories, its not worth it. If you deprive yourself of a little sugar, your body may crave it.
dude, if you are only having 3 cups of coffee a day its no surprise you have lost 16 lbs. not healthy tho is it.0 -
i think that you can go with what the mayo clinic says. honestly. its the fricken mayo clinic.

There's probably a conspiracy here too. Anti artificial sweetener proponents will say that Mayo's board of trustees are bought off.

I prefer the taste of sugar in my coffee, and the half teaspoon I have is like 7.5 calories.
Aspartame has given me headaches before when I used to drink crystal light.0 -
I don't like the taste of sweetener at all, far too artificial! x x x0

Never said all things natural are good. Never said all things artificial are bad. This is people putting words in mouths for the sake of being able to dispute something. Any statements people have made that are not regarding the topic of SWEETENERS have been taken out of context and really have nothing to do with this thread.
The only thing I’ve tried to say is that your best bet for a SWEETENER is one that comes from nature and not one that is created in a lab. When I say natural sweeteners, I am referring to the list I posted earlier in this thread, not poisonous things such as mushrooms & poison ivy. It’s probably common sense to figure that out on your own but you never know when someone from the debate team is going to show up & misconstrue your words, so I figured I should clarify.
Per the studies I’ve posted as well as the *multiple* people who have posted on this very thread stating the negative effects they’ve experienced with artificial sweeteners, I’m not even sure why anyone would want to take that chance. Especially when there are already plenty of other things out there working against our odds… and this is something that could be easily avoided. Even if it’s avoiding something as simple as a headache! But to each their own, right?
I could go on to say an addiction to diet soda should speak for itself, but I won’t. And I could say that choosing something such as honey or coconut palm sugar - which have healthy nutritional values as well as many added health benefits - are probably the better decision for your body over something that is artificially created in a lab with no nutritional benefits, what-so-ever (unless you consider headaches a benefit). But to be honest, I’d rather just agree to disagree because unlike you, I’m not here to debate any and everything I can. Nor am I here to defensively make false accusations (i.e. anyone who has gone on a rant about artificial limbs, meds & organic foods which have nothing to do with this thread) or make immature – and again false – insults (e.g. implying someone is a conspiracy theorist) about people because my argument does not speak loud enough for itself. I simply feel passionate about this topic so I posted what I could to try and help someone out. Hopefully others will be wiser & let the studies speak for themselves rather than just listening to what the FDA & mayo clinic tell them to think.0 -
another point... is sugar good for you?
HELL NO ITS NOT.0 -

The worst snob is the one who doesn't think they are. Insinuating that because some of us actually believe the science shown without actual conflicting studies to challenge them, doesn't mean we're "less wise". We just haven't be shown enough evidence to show it's as bad as being touted.
But keep believing we're less intelligent than you are. Somehow some of us have got it figured out.................while consuming artificial sweeteners doing it.
