Skim milk, soy milk, or almond milk?

edited January 24 in Food and Nutrition
This seems to be a much disputed subject and I have found mixed results when trying to get to the bottom of it.

I'm concerned only with the nutritional values of each and which is the best for gaining muscle whilst drop-kicking fat.

Are there specific benefits for each and, if so, which is the most drastic?

Any advice is much appreciated- thank you!
Tom

Milk (any kind) is not responsible for muscle gain and fat loss...

    I drink 2% plain old cow's milk.

I grew up on 2% milk, love milk, except skim milk, ick, why? I like to drink either 1 cup of 1% milk or 1/2c 1 or 2% milk with 1/2c light chocolate soymilk, it tastes pretty good mixed together. I'm not a fan of almond milk, tried it, kids tried it, we don't care for it.

I prefer cow milk as it has a much higher protein content than soy or almond.

    I drink skim milk.

I'm allergic to almonds, so almond milk is out.
I'm hypothyroid, so I try to not go too crazy with soy.

Also, I'm cheap...and skim milk is the cheaper alternative.

    rice milk! or almond milk.

especially if you're vegan or vegetarian, you're probably already getting soy from other sources so avoid soy milk.

i find rice milk to be pretty much perfect. my wife prefers almond. both work better in coffee than most brands of soy, to boot.

I would go for full or semi if they didn't both make me feel very unwell.

I'll vote for hazelnut milk for coffee/chocolate and soy for cooking.

    Hi:

This is a matter of personal preferences and if you have medical requirements ( lactose intolerant).

Check the nutritional information from the web and decide which one fits your objectives.

I drink skim milk for the record.

    Good luck in your journey

    Almond,
Cow's milk might have hidden substance like aspartame inside being talked about right now,
Soy is a highly GM'ed crop.
Almond is probably more untouched. but only if you care about those sort of things.

    I like almond milk.

Cow milk makes me fart too much.

Personally, I love unsweetened almond milk. I'm not lactose free or anything, I just think it tastes good and has a better flavor for me than cow's milk.

I grew up on skim and love it, but I switched to almond milk to help lower my cholesterol.

I use almond milk for my shakes or with muesli, love it! I have skimmed milk in my coffee.

I grew up on 2%, moved to skim, but now I drink unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and I love it.

I had some cereal with skim milk the other day and it was soooo sweet.

No way on the Soy, horrible for you plus the GMO possibilities. Regular milk is great if you need it for extra calories but look for grass-fed, hormone free, whole milk is fine...fat is actually good for you. Almond milk just good!

I switched to almond milk not long ago and will never go back to milk in my cereal or smoothies. I have never been a big milk drinker though, never have liked the taste but almond to me is way better tasting (although the chocolate is gross).

It depends on what you are looking for in a milk. I'm not sure any will make a huge difference in muscle/fat. That is going to depend on your diet as a whole and your workouts.

Soy and cow's milk have more protein than almond, which has very little.

Soy has less calories than cow's milk.

Almond milk has less calories than both.

Soy and almond have added calcium that is usually equal to or greater than cow's milk. Cow's milk has calcium in it naturally.

I grew up on Skim Milk based on the family having high cholesterol. Now I hardly ever drink milk, but it is either skim or Light Chocolate Soy milk. Love it!

Almond milk for me, but that' a personal preference rather than what's healthier/better for me

The fats in milk are good for you. :) It just depends on what sits better with you. Personally, I'll drink any of those three or (flavored, it tends to be watery) rice milk. I really love vanilla soy milk, and it takes flavoring really well! I suggest trying all of them and drawing a conclusion based on taste. There's more calcium in (Silk brand) Almond or Soy milk, but they are pretty much nutritionally identical otherwise.

Good luck, and feel free to add me if you'd like!
