Comments that get made on MFP about others...
...I truly feel some comments made on this forum are reflected on the individuals internal emotional issues and battles, on the world around them rather than the way I and/or others look.
Indeed, one can often look at the posters making the comment and their own look, style and dress sense and one gets a good idea of how one may perceive the world around them, their personal self worth and reasoning why they feel the need to come onto a thread where it is nothing but than that of success and happiness and make it about something else, despite repeated demonstrations by others to the opposite.
Comments I regularly see really in the negative sense often on here, are simply best guesses and say more about the poster than making them rather than the subject matter.
Opinions?

I just want to know where you get off demanding that everything be sunshine and rainbows in your thread, and when one person posts something even seemingly negative, they get blasted.
I saw you(and others) jumped down someones throat all because they said "but she doesn't look happy". Seriously? That's just an observation.. nothing more. It's not saying OMG she's ugly and I don't want to be like her! Granted you did apologize to that poster later, but had you actually considered more then negativity, you probably wouldn't have taken it that way.
Bottom line, actually read and consider what people are trying to say, instead of just assuming everything that isn't Go Yo/Matt, is automatically negative.0 -

Matt may have responded that way to the person who made the comment you mention above because he and yo have gotten a reasonable amount of negative attention in their success threads and have probably become sensitive about it. I know that if I'm feeling sensitive I might respond to other peoples words and actions in a way that implied they meant to be cruel when in reality they weren't at all trying to be cruel.
Their success threads are the only success threads I've ever seen negative comments in. For instance "congratulations, but I wouldn't want to look like that" and "She looked better before". I'm sure there are lots of others too that I simply can't remember. I mean, I would never say anything like that to ANYONE rather they be fat, thin, or fit. It's unkind.0 -
I think people do what they want and trying to judge the level of their character over the internet is irrelevant considering character is rarely required due to anonymity.
Also you both look great, you're very fit.0 -

The guy after you sums it up perfectly.
And insinuating she's forced into changes by me (body, hair, look) is not only insulting to us both, it's completely unfounded.
Please tell me how she is looking unhappy, that the insinuation that she had been forced beyond her will is said in a remotely positive light?
Finally in a success thread WHY go in and be negative? What reasoning? I would get banned for doing the same and saying people are still fat in theirs.0 -
Please tell Yo from me.. just a person on here losing weight that she has the BEST body I've ever seen doing what she's doing. She is still very feminine and wow those legs! Another thing, I don't always smile perfectly in photos either! She is achieving what she is after with your help and that is what is important. You are so lucky to have a partner that is interested in the same goals. I'd love my man to just want to join the gym with me. I've lost interest now. You two keep it up!0

I generally agree with you.
I don't understand the need to qualify a simple "congratulations" with "but I wouldn't want to look like that", or "but you looked better before", etc. I can't imagine saying anything like that to anyone on here. I'm not sure why anyone thinks that's anything but totally nasty.
There is no reason on earth anyone needs to state an aesthetic preference to someone who has just done a bunch of hard work. So what if it's not how you want to look? Just congratulate them (or don't) and move on without the wholly negative "BUT...." comment.
It seems to me that these nasty comments really only occur on the threads of women who lift. Not just Matt and Yo's threads, but also in threads that are generally success threads of women who lift. People (mostly other women) turn up and start saying similar sorts of things: "I wouldn't want to look like you" "Congrats, but you look bulky and masculine" "Congrats but your legs are too big", etc.
Anyway, Yo seems happy to me. I watched the full video of her at the recent competition--she looked fantastic, like a true pro. Hard to believe that was her first show! The future is bright! Go Yo! :drinker:0 -

She said more than she doesn't look happy. I believe she also went on to say something about how she doesn't look like she is enjoying it and being able to see it in her eyes. Maybe she did really mean to comment that she wasnt smiling, which I still find a bizarre comment, but it did not come across that way to myself and a lot of others. The part about in her eyes made me think she meant truly unhappy not just not smiling.
I didn't just assume because it wasn't Go Matt/Yo that it was negativity - I wasn't looking for that. It honestly came across as negative. I've read her follow ups and I still don't get it.0 -
I felt the same as some of the negative people but didn't feel it was appropriate to piss all over your success story post. Different strokes for different folks.0

My opinion is that the level of butt hurt on this site is WAY too high and everyone would benefit greatly if they just did their own thing and quit worrying about opinions from ridiculous people on internet forums.0

What was said in the success thread was out of order.
But, saying you can make judgements on someone by their appearence in their pictures is like the pot calling the kettle black, no?0 -

As a kettle I find this offensive. Not all of us are black ya know...0 -

You are absolutely right!
Not so pretty very not fit people wander into the success thread wanting to see photos of someone going from dangerously morbidly obese to skinny fat because it makes them feel better, they like thinking " woah, I was never that big! but if they've gone from that to that.... I can too"
You guys look awesome, intimidating awesome that those not fit people know they dont have the determination or dedication to achieve anything near so they look for a flaw to make themselves feel better... Unfortunately they then just dont have the sens or manners to not to say it! Take it as a compliment thats all they could come up with to make themselves feel better...

I was trying to say the mental state of said people rather than say I'd openly state it usually on a thread.
If I was openly saying it repeatedly then I would totally agree about pot/kettle/black.0 -
Just want to say, that I think you both look happy in your profile pic.
as oposite to what some dumb *kitten* said in the last thread0 -
You posted a topic about one end of the spectrum, pushing the limits of the physical body. Whilst what you do takes dedication, hard work and endurance... It is an EXTREME and isn’t seen on a daily basis by most people.
Therefore you will get people who have strong opinions about it. I read an article on here the other day about a girl who was force feeding herself to be obese, you personally wouldn't have a view and opinion on that? But you are asking other people not to have an opinion on you?
If you only want people to sing your praises about it and do get easily offended by such innocuous comments, then don't post it on a public site. Go to a bodybuilding site with more like minded people who understand / appreciate what you do.
If this offends you....Then your arm will drop off. No, you will just "feel" offended.... Deal with it.0 -
While I appreciate mfp is to some degree intended to be a happy-lala-support place for comercial reasons, this IS the internet.
If you don't want to hear people's opinions, just everyone telling you you're great, best to keep it to yourself.
I'm sure it'd be easy enough to get a little script made up that just replied nice things in your own little island.
Personally, I don't want a message board where people don't experess their opinions.
I wouldn't mind one where people are forced to THINK about their opinions before expressing them, however.0 -

I knew you were going to post that... That if you went into a thread and people said someone was still fat, that you would get banned... and Newsflash, you wouldn't get banned, but you would probably get a lot of heat. Your being really dramatic with that statement.
Also, how do you know that someone saying she looks unhappy is an insinuation that she was forced into something? Oh, wait, you don't, as that poster pointed out. You just assumed and made an *kitten* out of yourself because you are so used to looking for the negative.
I don't think Yo's blond hair suits her, I think it looks better dark. Are you going to come at me and say that now I'm being all negative and insinuating that she's ugly? Yeah, you probably are, but it couldn't be further from the truth. I had blond hair myself for 8 years and love it, but it doesn't mean I have to love it on every person.
Bottom line, again(since I don't think you got it the first time) STOP assuming that everything little thing is NEGATIVE! Actually THINK about what people are saying. If the first part of someones post is a positive one, do you really think they mean of their post in a negative way? Or could it just be an observation that you blow out of proportion?0 -
Why let it get you down? I mean I know it sucks but you guys are making a pro-card bid. The folks talking crap are what...shaving half their heads?
It's not worth worrying about. It's not like 'she looks unhappy' is ever going to take a run at beating Yo on stage, is it?0 -
I have some that didn't realize at first how to take it to the next level but are now starting to slam it towards high gear, and I have a few total bad AZZ's that can simply bring it each & every day. Our comments are definitely a reflection on ourselves at times because we are very similar in our goals & personalities. Its like a fitness frenzy & the words with our sweat is very inspiring to each other.0

People are too damn sensitive these days (Not you OP, I think you and your girl are great). 1) It's the internet. 2) If you get butthurt over something someone says on the internet....I just wonder how you will respond in "real life." 3) Wahhhhhhh waahhhhhhhh wahhhhhhhhh - << baby crying.0

I am convinced people join MFP because they feel great about themselves, eat well and exercise regularly so they see no need whatsoever to change any aspect of their lives. They're all in great relationships and have meaningful jobs.0
