I've been on MFP for a few years intermittently, i know i suck. But just started Atkins/lowcarb, it's hard! Especially the no sugar/chocolate. Any friends/support would be appreciated.

I did a low carb diet last summer and lost about 20 pounds. I think it's a great diet. I used to make low carb peanut butter cookies, low carb ice cream, and i ate a lot of cool whip when my sweet tooth kicked in!!

i did low carbs for a while and hated my life. i would alway crave carbs and feel moody and tired most of the time. low carbs made my muscles look weak and i think i kinda look skinny fat when i did it. never agian wil i do a low carb diet, i think calorie deficit is good enough

I'm doing Keto myself. It will be four weeks on Wednesday. Though it's hard at times to not give into cravings, it's easier because you're more satisfied after eating. This is not a lifestyle that I want to maintain forever, it's just a vehicle to get me to my goals quicker.

I had my best results so far with slow carb. This is presented in the 4 hour body by Timothy Ferris. It's slightly different then low carb. The carbs you are allowed in abundance have high amounts of fiber attached to them. ie- veggies, lentils, beans. If you eat a lot of beans they help keep you full and not looking for snacks every 1/2 hour.

I personally feel like once you start elliminaing food groups (like low carb) your setting yourself up for failure... it may have a quick fix but once you get to the enough is enough point you'll start eating those foods again and have taught yourself nothing about eating them in moderation... I do use the atkins shakes and protien bars for quick snacks but other than that I'm sticking with my everything in moderation :) Feeling great, energized, and not feeling deprived :)

Low carbs is a great diet, but you must learn what carbs that are good for you and which ones are bad for you. Too many of the wrong carbs will be stored as fat.

I've been on the proper low carbs for over 8 yrs, and I am able to maintain my desire weight.

This is one of those comments that kinda piss me off. Yes, if you do short term low carb you will lose a lot of water weight at first and will re-gain it all back when you add carbs back in. However, the proposition that I will re-gain 75 pounds that I lost by adding carbs back in my diet is preposterous. Granted, if I add carbs and go back to a 3500 calorie intake diet then yes, it is correct I will re-gain the weight. But this is the difference between losing weight and keeping weight off. They are two very distinct things.

Low carb diets are good for one thing: high fat and protein make you full faster with a lower caloric intake requirement. You can easily get full on 1300 calories in keto. You can't get full on 1300 calories of carbs.
