Roeann53-are you kissing that kitty? I kiss mine all the time. DH won't kiss the cats because he says they are covered in cat spit. He's very weird, but he does make me laugh.

Well DD arrived yesterday and I am looking forward to a great week with her. I did lots of calling and finally got things straightened out with insurance, Dr. etc. I don't really have to do six weeks of PT before they will do the MRI. The Dr. just wrote that because that is what he always writes for PT. At least he was gracious enough to call me in person and not just have his nurse do it. So I have to do one more week of PT and then they will do the MRI since I have had very little improvement with the shoulder. In addition all the stress caused my sarcoidosis to flare and that makes exercise difficult because I can't breathe. So now I am on prednisone for a week. I am hoping the steroids will help bring down the inflammation in the shoulder too but that may be asking too much.

Prayers for all those affected by the tornadoes. Healing angels to all who need them and congrats to all who are doing so well!

    Hi all,

Back at work for a few days and then will have the weekend off. Shift work sometimes is a pain, but I am thankful for work until I can safely retire. DH and SIL are filling the raised bed with dirt today. Should not be a terrible hot day as it is overcast. I have had 2 meetings to go to today, one down (Early Heart Attack Care) and one to go (Safety), so that has broken up work some.

Carol~ We like the cinder blocks for our beds. Alot less expensive, even with stablizing it with cement!

Barbie ~ I understand the cheese issue. I love string cheese, great snack or with meal for work. But then again I love salt

YannieJannie ~ DH wanted to stablize the beds with cement about 3/4 the way up in evey other hole.. Then we top it off with dirt, put dirt in the empty hole too. Then plant small things like herbs, radishes, onions and garlic in the holes. Nothing wasted

Kathy ~ fingers crossed regarding the job!:flowerforyou:

Yardtigress: RE: Jewelry.. DH has in the past made most all the jewelry. He also teaches at the club and is past president. I have taken classes in wire wrapping and filigree, and have finished some of his intarsia pieces with the wire wrap, He has some award winning pieces that I love. Took a look at your Dragonsfire site.... Very pretty jewelry ! You are very talented! DH and I are stockpiling jewelry so we can have enough to start going to Gem and Mineral shows, that is our goal and then when that is sucessful enough I will retire. We just want enough to supplement our Social Security... the traveling around will be the fun part  I am taking his intarsia class right now and love it, I also now make my own cabs... I am really interested in Russian Filigree now as well.

Well must run... Have a good evening all!

I just found out I can cross my legs without taking hold of my pants leg to accomplish it:bigsmile: Doing the happy dance right now!!! Went to the Y today and forgot that I had to adjust the seat and back settings on the incline press. So it was very difficult. I will feel it tomorrow:cry:

:flowerforyou: :drinker: Some of you may remember that at my last visit to the doctor a few months ago, she told me that I should put on a few pounds, that BMI for women over 65 was different than for younger women and that by those standards, I was underweight and then later my bone density scan results weren’t good. Everything I’ve read says that women who weigh too little are at risk for low bone density so I’ve been adding a few calories and have now adjusted my weight ticker to reflect the gain. This has been a scary thing to do because I want to be able to wear the clothes I have and don’t want to change my eating habits and let my weight get out of control.

:flowerforyou: Jake has been stopping at the grocery store on his way home from the gym......last week he bought a rib-eye steak and today he bought halibut and fresh cauliflower and fixed dinner for me.

   I stayed up til 11:00 last night watching the DWTS finale (great choice for champion) and got up at 4AM to walk dogs so tonight I'll be in bed very early.

    DeeDee........hope your "CROWNING" went well

Kathy........fingers crossed that this interview is "the one"

On the cheese topic; I can't imagine giving it up, but don't have any portion problems with it either. One of my fav. breakfasts is an egg omlet with 14g of low fat Mexican mix shredded cheese folded in

Lucy.........enjoy your long weekend at the beach; have some fun

cityjane.........."least worst television in the world".............love it!!! actually BBC shows are among my favs and have been since the days of "All Creatures Great and Small"

Katla........could you just rent an RV once you get there? That way you would have your privacy and still be close w/o having to be in the same home or actually own the RV

Connie.........nice pics on your blog; That smiling baby
    WOW!! Gorgeous!!

Barbie..........quite proud of Kellie Pickler; that girl has come a L-O-N-G way!!! Loved her since she was sparring with Simon on A.I.

    Off to read

Jo - you are doing so well. Most of the time I don't crave the calorie dense food, but I admit that on occasion I do. Especially when I think of the whole Bryan situation. Then I just want to drown my sorrows in junk food -- which I know logically won't help one tiny bit. Had to laugh at the taste of the sand...kids say the darndest things.

DeeDee - I've never had them make the crown right in the doctor's office. They've always ground it down, put on the temporary crown, sent out to have the permanent one made, then back to the dentist to have the permanent one put on. Guess your kids took the autotrain to FL, I'm sure they'll have a great time.

grandmalle - congrats on getting to the gym. Some days it can be so hard, but you did it! If you're eating too much under your calories consistently, you will see a gain. Try upping the calories (weird, but it confuses the body and so you'll lose)

kathy - congrats on resisting those donuts! You're doing so well. Good luck on the job interview

I do like my cheese, but really try to limit it. Cabot cheddar is not bad in sodium. Not great, but not as bad as some of the others. I, too, thank goodness for the mini babybels. Also for the cheese sticks. Sargento makes a low sodium one. Still not the best, but better than some of the others

jb - congrats on getting a handle on the sugar.

geekette - welcome to a great group of very supportive women with lots of good ideas. Pop in often

Lucy in DE - have fun in Ocean City. Hope the weather holds out for you

Katla - CO in June should be fabulous. What part of CO are you going to?

Did about 45 minutes of yoga today (I can never get to that class on time) then an hour of the deep water. Tomorrow I'm planning to do Jillian Michael's 30 Day shred DVD

Sue in SD - so sorry to hear that you're feeling so badly. Best wishes for feeling better real fast.

Joyce - congrats on the wonderful NSV!

barbie - I understand about you wanting to wear your clothes, etc. but I think perhaps adding a few calories might be worth it. Having a broken bone doesn't even begin to compare to wearing clothes. I'm sure there are people who would much rather wear a size larger in their clothes than have a broken bone. To be honest, I was fully expecting Zendaya to win DWTS, but I'm glad Kelly did. Part of me wonders if it's because Kelly has an older following who are more likely to call in.

Went to mahjongg, didn't maj even once. Wednesdays are somewhat tight for me, can't wait until we go back to Mondays. I have senior bowling, run home to wolf down dinner, then out the door again. Left earlier this time than last week because I just can't get home so late. It takes me about 20 minutes to get home and then I had to take the garbage out, I like to have things ready for the next day.

Don't know if we'll be able to do any work outside tomorrow since it's raining right now. In a way, I wish it was raining tomorrow so that I can go to mahjongg Friday. Oh well...I'd rather get this landscaping done.

    Funnnnny yanniejannie! LOL!

Oh Barbie, :flowerforyou: I feel your fear...but in all honesty I'm glad you've decided to put on a couple of pounds. I remember when you told us what the doctor said you several months ago, and I know you weren't exactly excited about the idea. But we don't want to get too fragile. You can hold steady where you are, I know you can.

Thanks Michele, getting sugar under control has been tough, but not so much recently since I have a cavity  and if I eat sweets I go through the roof with pain! Have an appt to get it filled in a couple of weeks. But after that's done, I'm still going to stay away from sugar. It hates me and makes me feel awful.

Just scanned through posts the last several days. Spent 14 hours in the office today in prep for (1) me being away through the long weekend and (2) boss being gone for 2 weeks. Will try to keep up while away, but we'll see how my time goes.

We'll celebrate our anniversary, my DS/BIL's anniversary and my (same) DS' 65th birthday. Party, party, party! We probably won't overindulge as this particular sister always cooks just enough portions -- never more (and sometimes on the skimpy side).

I really need to go eat something -- lunch was a long time ago!

    'night all --

    Hello friends,
It was tough to come back from Hawai'i not so much because of the weather, the beauty and food, but because of the PEOPLE. Just so much 'aloha', and many good friends who hold a special place in my heart.:heart: I did log most of my food and exercise. Came back with a .5 pound gain and no tan or sunburn (I'm taking better care of my skin after subjecting it to years of overexposure). :glasses:

It's taken me a few days to read through all your posts. As always, even when you don't hear from me, I do 'hear' all your good advice and stories in my head as I go through this journey toward optimum health and fitness. :drinker:

Yanniejannie- Sorry you have to take the pills. Totally understand your frustration. With antibiotics you may want to add more probiotics to your diet.

Jodios- Congratulations on busting through the plateau and below your goal. So happy you are getting quality time with DH and DD.

DeeDee- A new crown to go with your tiara – hope the dental procedure went well.

Kathy- Your stalwart discipline in the face of donuts inspires me. I cannot be within a 10 city blocks of donuts or they mysteriously get inhaled down my gullet. Good luck with the job interview.

Barbie- Did your pick win on DWTS? I like Derek and Kelly, but wish Zendaya had taken the mirror ball.

Cheeseheads- You can have my portion. I like cheese but can happily live without it. Lactose intolerance is no fun.

Geekette411- Welcome to you. Please tell us more about yourself. You’ll find this is a very engaged MFP community.

Grandmallie- I am intrigued by your teas. Who makes them and where can I get some? I drink green, oolong and caffeine free Good Earth spicy every day.

Lucy- Have fun at the beach and I hope you have fantastic sunny weather.

CityJane- Our DHs may be related. Mine is a very thin and fit 68 who also has IBS and cleans up after me. He has a dessert with coffee every night before he dozes off watching sports on tv.

Katla- Where in Colorado does you DD live? Have you looked into renting instead of buying an RV?

Roeann- I have to tell myself daily “sunscreen is my friend”. Wish I had started this regime about 50 years ago.

Yardtigress- I kiss my cat, too. :smooched: The worst part of my vacation was having to put my fur baby in a pet hotel. He did great, and even lost ½ a pound which he needed to shed.

Sue in SD- Sorry about your setback, but glad to know that you’re closer to getting an MRI.

Joyce in Indiana-Great NSV. Congratulations. I’m watching the Pacers game now and cheering for them. (sorry Heat fans)

Michele- I truly admire the variety of exercise you do. I need to look into shaking up my routine.

Gail- Enjoy the celebrations and the long weekend away from work.

All of you with gardens are making me jealous. I just have a tiny condo deck and have yet gotten started with planting a single petunia. With the long weekend coming up, I’ll be hauling back potting soil and pretty flowers from our local nursery.

My DSIL and 4 dear nieces and nephews live in OKC. Everyone is fine, but all know impacted families. I am really proud of one niece who is a one-woman animal rescue squad.

    Stay well.

Barbie: It sounds like you are being health-wise to put on a few pounds of muscle to help yourself stay strong. I think that is very smart. I don’t picture you losing control and turning into a couch potato. :noway: :noway: Couch potatoes don’t dance, and neither do people with weak, brittle bones. You’ll find the right balance.:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Michele: I’ll be going to Boulder County. We live at sea level and Colorado is several thousand feet higher, but I find that I acclimatize quite well by driving there. Flying there is too much elevation gain in too short a time, and I end up with low energy and headaches for several days.:grumble: When I drive, I’m good to go the day I get there.

Rori: I also have lactose intolerance but whatever makes milk into cheese seems to solve the worst of the problem for me, provided I don’t over do it. I also take Lactaid when I’m planning to eat cheese or think I might be getting food with milk, cream, or butter. It helps, although it doesn't fix everything. I have considered renting an RV numerous times but haven’t actually contacted companies to set up a rental. That is a possibility in the future. :flowerforyou:

The rain I expected to live through during February, March, and April is here today, and we’ve had a low key, indoor day. We’re supposed to go on a boating trip with friends this weekend, and we will go if the weather improves. This is an annual event for our sailing club and is always fun. Last year it was sunny and warm, and we had a great time. We’ve gone during overcast and showery weather some years and glorious weather other years. The boat is ready. All we have to do is put on food and our clothing. We'll be making a last minute decision. Mostly overcast with a few showers could be a go, but driving rain will definitely be a pass.

    Good Morning!

Up early but hoping to catch a few more zzz's before I drive to Chicago to spend the day with my best friend. Since she lives a hour and a half from me, we only see each other for a few hours every few months so I really looking forward to spending a whole day with her, She's having cataract surgery Tues. and she doesn't drive so I'm taking her shopping. Also, my sis with MS lives in a nursing home not far from her so we're taking her lunch and the new Jodi Picoult book. Water Zumba was fun yesterday but I was wiped out afterwards!

The donut sage continues! After my DSD proceeded to eat donuts again in front of me (luckily DH wasn't home), I proceeded to tell her that donuts were not allowed in the house anymore and could she please not bring any more home. I did explain, although she knew darn well, that I and my DD as well as her dad were all trying to eat better and didn't want the temptation. That did not go over well to say the least. :grumble: Later, I even asked my DH if he thought I was being too unreasonable and he actually agreed with me! She's been thinking about moving in with her mother for awhile now, mostly because we won't let her boyfriend spend the night (she's 23). This may be the deciding factor, since she's not too happy with the evil stepmother now but I'm not going to sweat it. Hope that doesn't sound too callous but I don't need the stress of being at odds with her all the time.

Barbie - I totally agree with you that Kellie deserved to be the champ on Dancing with the Stars! This season was so much fun to watch. How nice that Jake fixes dinner for you and it sounded yummy!

    :flowerforyou: to all!

Katla- I was going to suggest to rent an RV also but someone beat me to it:wink:
I did come home and mow part of the lawn,, the DH did the front lawn..
out today for some shopping and lunch, gonna try and find something healthy for lunch..

    Hi all!
Barbie, putting on a few lbs sounds like a good plan I have known people with osteoporosis and it is horrible. I had to be very careful when I was taking Arimidex for my breast cancer for five years as that is an oestrogen inhibitor. Vitamin D and calcium as I am sure your doctor has told you. Your dancing will have helped a lot. Lifting weights might be an idea - I have dumbbells. I have thought about what would be an appropriate weight for me to get down to as I think the weight I was at twenty is far too low now. I might aim at mid range of healthy BMI, say 23. Did your doc give you any pointers on that?
I am looking forward to the delicious lentil and spinach curry I have cooked for my lunch. DH is at the cricket so I can eat my favourite things. Lentils don't agree with his IBS and he likes curry but not too hot!
Then I will have to get a provisions box together for our holiday. In the morning everything will come out of the fridge and into the cool box. I might even take the pot of basil that is sitting on the windowsill and the tulips my DBIL bought me.
Getting ready for a holiday agrees with me less and less as I get older. So much work! :grumble: But I love it when I get there.
Will be able to post from Cornwall as we have Wi Fi.
Love to all. Joyce that is great! Those things are so important.:flowerforyou:

My arms still get a bit of a tan even with the sunscreen, however my legs are lily white:laugh: , oh well. I bet your fur baby was so happy to see you!!! Hi ladies. No chance to catch up with this really chatty group but I wanted you all to know I am still here. Work stress had been bad. I ended up with strep throat again. that is 2 times in 4 weeks. :noway: All because of stress.

Anyway this is my birthday weekend. I plan on having dinner with my dad and Mamie on Saturday. She is grilling ribeye. Then on Sunday Doug and I are going out for a fancy dinner and then we will go play roulette at the casino. On Monday my actual birthday I am declaring it a "Robin does whatever she wants to" Day!

I hope you are all doing well. I miss you guys.

Kathy: You haven’t told DSD she can’t have donuts, only that she can’t bring them home. You’re being reasonable and she is being difficult. Our kids were starting to come out of the teen funk by 23, but were still in process. She’ll grow up, eventually. Meanwhile, if she wants to live with mom…

Jane: Help! I’m trying to understand BMI. How close are you to your goal? I looked mine up on a table, but don’t really get it. There is a wide range of “normal” weights for my height. I fall inside the normal range now, and will still fall in the normal range if I lose another 30 pounds or more. Apparently the target zone is quite large, so how do you select a specific goal? Have a great holiday.:flowerforyou:

DeeDee: Your Starbucks rendezvous with friends sounds like fun and a lovely way to spend the afternoon/evening.:flowerforyou:

Barbie: I do have many memories of skinny little old ladies who were stooped over due to osteoporosis. My relatives were not skinny or stooped but some of them had cankles due to water retention. :ohwell: Citracal is a wonderful bone density helper. My gynecologist suggested it years ago when I complained of low back pain. I have to take medicine for acid reflux that can cause osteoporosis as a side effect. If I don’t take the medicine I’ll eventually get cancer of the esophagus, so I’m stuck with it. :grumble: There isn’t any alternative to this medicine that is effective without causing bone loss issues, so I’ve been doing this a LONG time.:ohwell: Citracal is high quality calcium citrate plus D3. Any old D will not do the job. It needs to be D3. Calcium carbonate will not do either. It has to be calcium citrate in order for your body to metabolize it properly. There may be other products on the market that have these characteristics, but Citracal is reliably available and you can even get large bottles at Costco for a reasonable price. DH now takes it, too, to help with his MS. I take two tablets, twice a day. I may have mentioned this product before, so I’m sorry if this is a repeat.

Robin: It is good to hear from you. Enjoy your birthday celebrations.

Yoga was cancelled this morning because the instructor has a sick child at home. I am so disappointed. :frown: I can’t believe how much I’ve come to enjoy this class and rely on yoga to keep me limbered up. I have a DVD, so I think I’ll do it this morning. It isn’t as much fun as the class, and I’m never sure I’m doing the positions correctly, but it is better than going without.

I’d like to make a request for people to sign including their locations. It makes this group more personal and fun. :flowerforyou:

    I know I missed a lot of you will try to do better next time....I have been having a wicked struggle with this weight loss...was doing exercises just so I could eat more :blushing: .....now I am going to eat what a normal day without exercising would be..I am not counting those calories burned to eat more but to think that I am getting in better shape....I have been sabotaging this weight loss thing from the start..time to get my priorities right in the mind...do I want to be back in my thin clothes or not...stop playing it and DO IT....I will keep on trying ...I am so tired of fighting this.....My Fibro shows off..and the Chronic Fatigue is bulldozing me in :explode: {sigh}

I wish for you all a beautiful day and a wonderful weekend!!!! :flowerforyou:

Katla- yes, I have been trying to do some research on what would be a healthy, fit bmi for my age, 63, since I read Barbie's post. I am 5ft 5ins and currently weigh 153 pounds. That puts me only just above the normal range. I am concentrating now on being really fit, but would like to lose a few more lbs. My waist is still 33 ins. However, from what I have read on the web it seems as if it might be wise not to go too low in order to keep bone density. I have revised my goal now to be bmi of 24 with a body fat of about the same. Currently my body fat by a very rough measurement is over 26 so can work on that a bit. I therefore need to lose another 7lbs or so to be at goal and work on my fitness.
It would be lovely to be as slim as I was in my twenties, but it might not be healthy and my neck might not thank me:laugh: . I am delighted with where I have got to already and have succeeded well beyond my initial ambition. 44lbs lost in just less than a year. I think we all have to make our own decision about what feels right for us. - it partly depends on our frame, measured by wrist size - mine is medium.
I'm going to come clean now that I have known you all a while and tell you that my name is actually Heather. CityjaneLondon has been my internet identity for reviewing etc. I used to call myself Jane when I was a teenager and wanted to date boys from another area. It became a sort of alter ego and now I just use it for anonymous internet stuff. And I was living in London when I started on the internet.
So here I am - Heather, living in Hampshire in the south of England.
Liz- so sorry about your sister. A very good friend of ours recently died of cancer. She was a true light in this world and it knocked us all for six. She was amazingly brave to the last. Sometimes I think it is worse for those who love them; certainly I felt DH was suffering more than me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I could cope with what I had to deal with, but felt his pain. His previous partner died of breast cancer so you can imagine the shock when we were newly married and I got it.
When it is your close sister it must be so much worse, literally your own flesh and blood, and you have the added bond of having survived abuse together. Love to you and may you find strength you never thought you had.:flowerforyou:

Ugh, 57 years old here and am I tired, I've been on a mission since the beginning of this year to loose this belly of mine and yesterday I went to the gym and I'm not sure if I moved wrong, didn't stretch enough or just over did it, but man am I wiped out ! I did some good stretching today and stayed home to do some work around the house, but I don't seem to have the energy even to do that. :frown: It just drives me nuts when I get like this, it's feels like all I want to do is climb back into bed sheesh ! :grumble: Well just wanted to send that out there, thanks for listening or not :ohwell:

I am being very cauticeoulsy (sp???) optimistic. I am now at 30.2 pounds lost. I had been at 30, somehow gained 2 pounds doing everything right and they stayed on me forever.

Today is nursing home day to see my MIL. She loves to order from Blair and she ordered this faux fur coat, heels and a pretty blouse and some bras. She also ordered a cuckoo clock from Walmart. they all came in yesterday so it will be like Christmas for her today. She doesn't go anywhere and sits in her wheel chair all day. She uses diapers, has been for many many years so I hate to think what this coat will end up like but her Medicaid doesn't allow her money account to get above a certain amount and it's getting close so we buy frivolous things for her that she will never use but enjoys knowing they are in her posession.

Good day at the Y today. Getting more used to the strengthening exercises.

Poerava.........I hear you on the probiotics; been having 2 Greek yogurts a day, usually I have one.

Barbie........I remember reading somewhere on the web that women above a certain BMI never have osteoporosis problems because they simply carry so much weight--no idea how true this is. I've been on Fosamax for almost a yr. now; apparently my hips are quite affected.....my family dr. sent me to a rheumatologist who insisted that I take it, threatening me with all sorts of horrid broken hip stories.......she says the main thing is to do nothing with any impact, so no skydiving for me, I guess.

Katla.........of course I checked my Ca supplement when I read your post---Caltrate---it has the right D3 but it's carbonate, hmmmmmm.....

Liz........supporting thoughts to you......cancer is a horrible, horrible disease in all it's forms

    Meg........hang in there

I was down 2lbs. this am.......usually I weigh every day but didn't yesterday.........I'm chalking it up to stress of an awful month so far.

and so it goes............Going to the grocery store this afternoon, my daughter asked when Father's Day is because she wants to make her father a cheesecake early since she won't be here for Father's Day.............
