Need Tips to Stop serious morning binge (everyday)

Every single day I wake up at 6am and have breakfast witch usually consists of omlettes, all bran or oatmeal pancakes and a banana, the night before I plan all my meals and snacks (3 meals, 3 snacks) though I always eat all 3 of my planned snacks straight after breakfast even though I am full and then come down a hour later and eat about 2 apples then have to start cutting out of dinner and lunch. I always end up starving right after dinner though I can control this so easy and I just don't eat, I am not sure how to stop this it has been happening for around 3 weeks.any tips?

Well, I don't know how much calories you eat per day since your diary isn't public, but given that you do eat enough you probably have to work on your discipline. If not, eat more.

Drink 2 full glasses of water before each meal and snack to trick your stomach into thinking that it's full. That's what most fitness pros recommend. When you get tired of spending most of your day in the bathroom, just don't eat in the morning.

By fitness pro's do you mean 'people with an eating disorder' because I cant see an actual athlete recommending drinking water before a meal just so that they 'feel full'.

Bob Harper in his new book, forgot what it's called, and Mike Chang's quicksixpacks are the only names I can think of that preach drinking water before each meal. I'm guessing Jullian Michaels does too but I haven't had a chance to look at her plan but she works with Bob so she probably does. O yeah, Chris Powell also preaches a glass of water before each meal.

    Strong Hodge Twins reference, heh.

Anyway, I don't think this even sounds like a binge to me. Kinda sounds like breakfast from what you described. What's your diet like overall, nutritionally, macros, calories?

    I will.

And my advice to the OP....there are two issues....either you arent eating enough at the meal to keep you full and its causing you to be hungry sooner, OR this is a binge behaviour and is mental rather than physical. The first can be solved by eating a more substantial meal. The second will take a bit more work.

I don't see why a "fitness pro" would NEVER need to make their body wait a little bit to eat. I've heard this tip many times... its better to drink a bunch of water than grab a mcdonalds burger on the way home before dinner if you are really hungry. Logic.

-You're either eating too little in general
    -Eating too much for breakfast
-Or can't yet differentiate between: Starving, hunger, normal, satisfied, full, and stuffed.

I used to always think I was hungry when I started until I realized it's not normal to walk around feeling stuffed all day.

The water thing never works for me. It just makes me feel sloshy and still hungry. How many calories are you eating OP and how much protein are you getting generally? What else is going on when you want to eat? Is it hunger or boredom?

Also, if it happens to work for aneroxics, they probably ARE the experts in the field of tricks to survive.

I've heard the drinking a class of water suggestion often by others too - ie, if you want a snack, drink a glass of water and wait thirty minutes, if you're still hungry, then have your snack.

Me, I just don't eat an early Breakfast, which works nicely as I'm not really hungry until 11-12pm, whereupon I've got an hour to wait until eating at 1pm.

My new 1pm breakfast I'll often have an omelette - which does seem a bit better at stopping me being hungry.

A banana has about 175 calories. Eat something else with less sugar, like a diced apple in your oatmeal. An apple has half the calories of a banana (about 72) and a third of the sugar.

Other people had great suggestions, like drink 2 glasses of water before you eat. You might really look forward to the breakfast, so it could be emotional eating. Try a walk outside or other exercise that you enjoy before you eat so you are looking forward to something else. I would not cut out breakfast, though. Decide on a healthy breakfast, eat, and then leave the house so you aren't hanging around the table.

Do you do any kind of exercise and do you eat back the calories? 1300 seems pretty low. The first thing I'd try is giving yourself more calories and making sure your breakfast is filling.

I see from your profile you are recovering from bulimia. Congrats on getting your calories up. It makes me wonder though if this might be something that we can't really help you sort out. Do you see a therapist or counselor for help with your recovery?

I practice intermittent fasting and don't eat early in the day. I typically don't start eating until mid to late afternoon. Aside from the fact that eating really early makes me feel ill, I find that I am constantly hungry as soon as I eat breakfast so it's just easier to wait and eat later. (Check out leangains.com).

Intermittent fasting is typically contraindicated for people with (or recovering from) eating disorders but there are several people who have posted on these boards that intermittent fasting has helped them overcome binging disorders.

I tried everything, eating more protein, eating a bigger breakfast etc... but no matter what, felt hungry about 30 minutes after eating. This works for me.

If your diet consists of 1300 calories then breakfast = roughly 400 calories. 800 makes your day tooo lopsided. I like the idea of drinking lots of water before your meal.

But.....You might want to try mindfulness eating. Eating your food SLOWLY: one bite, put fork down, chew 20 x's, take a sip of water. Make yourself eat slow. Then watch your hunger cues. It takes 20 minutes for your brain to receive the stomach's signal of "full". But you don't eat until "full", eat until you are "satisfied". THEN STOP! EVEN IF THERE IS FOOD STILL LEFT ON YOUR PLATE! (that part is especially hard for me)

Look up mindfulness eating online. There are websites and podcasts that describe this technique.

Mindfulness eating helps you get in touch with your hunger cues. Also, I don't know if you are lifting heavy. If that is the case, you should be eating way more calories as well.

    Good luck!

Being hungry after breakfast isn't the problem as you are eating a substantial breakfast and say you are full. This is a matter of self control and habit. Have your breakfast, enjoy it, and then go and do something where you can't start eating your snacks when you don't really want/need them. Go for a walk or a cycle or something to get you out of the house and away from the snacks. Think about what you're doing in the morning - are you bored? are you supposed to be studying and eating is a good diversion? are you stressing about something you need to do? We eat for so many reasons and your morning binge is not because you need to eat but only you can identify why you're doing it.

Maybe planning your meals the night before just makes you think about the food too much? Perhaps you could try and be more relaxed about your food and start listening to your body? Still have your healthy meals but re-train yourself to have them when you really need them. Start with loosely planning a few options of you could chose for a meal, but wait and make the choice at mealtime.

you only have a few lbs to lose, so you should have MFP set to lose 1/2lb per week.

If you do this you should have more calories, so you can eat a bigger breakfast.

Up your calories to at least 1500 so you are allowed more food to begin with and ensure you are not eating below your BMR. Eat something filling for breakfast such as oatmeal with some protein powder or poached eggs on wholemeal toast and then if you still feel hungry drink a glass of water and wait a while to see if this has satisfied your craving. It sounds habitual rather than anything else.

Clearly you need a bigger breakfast, so adjust your calories to accommodate this. I eat the majority of my calories in the evening as it's what suits me.

I don't know how many calories you are eating, but it could be you aren't eating enough which is leading to binges.

Or, it could a binge for other reasons, which is a much more difficult to break out of and only you can help with that.
