I should just copy and paste this for every boob thread already...

    1- boobs are fat

2-when you go from a 38DD to a 34DD or ANY smaller band with the SAME letter cup, your boobs have indeed SHRUNK.
the volume on a lower size band with the same letter CUP is still ONE CUP SIZE SMALLER.

sorry ladies, these are the breaks.

huh! I actually was clueless to that fact. I'm a little happier now knowing they have actually gone down somewhat now  thanks!

I'm actually really glad that someone is pleased with this revelation!
I usually get either lots of debate and/or derision for telling the facts such as they are.

HELP!!!! Urgh I did not know this why the hell do they make sizes so complicated???So when I drop from a 36 to a 34 even if my cup doesnt drop they do get smaller??

Are we seriously all reading this and saying it makes perfect sense? You didn't lose a cup size you lost WEIGHT in the breast. You can't lose a cup size and still wear teh same cup size. If you're losing band size that is around the part that is BELOW your breast. You can lose size around that way and stay teh same cup size......I'm sorry but I'm not buying this. If I go to victoria secret and still have to by a DD no matter what number is in front of it then my cup size is still a DD...

honey, I'm saying this in the nicest possible way, but if you are buying your bras at VS, you are getting ****ed.
Get a professional fitting, and a bra that actually fits. You will like your boobs so much better.

i didn't get myself fitted there 'honey' i just buy them there because they're the only place that has support in a bra that i can get to not to mention i will NEVER like my boobs no matter where i buy my bras tyvm. i don't like how huge they are and i don't want them to be this big so don't presume to think that you know me well enough to think that a bra shop is going to change that.

    yes. One whole cup.
that's how bras work. there are probably a couple hundred of bra sizes out there.... manufacturers do not make 200+ different bra cups/wires.

    for example.... the cup on a 36B = 34C =32D = 30DD

going the other way, if you go from a 36C to a 34C you are decreasing a cup as the cup on the 34C is the size of a 36B cup, not a C.

but proportionately, as the rest of you is shrinking, they should more or less look the same. But they did shrink a cup size.

Actually does now make a bit more sense and I bloody wish I'd known it before, I've struggled as I got put on contraception to balance out some spectacular mood swings (works really well) but I've put on 3 stone and so boobs have gone from an F to a HH.... Doc keeps saying the weight may not go which is why I've been saving like mad for December reduction but I may now be a little more patient!

I was a 38D in high school and after losing weight I'm now a 34B, maybe? I haven't measured but the girls are definitely smaller and it's been terrible. Breast augmentation in my future!

It's different for everyone, I suppose it depends on if your tissue is more fat or breast tissue.

For me, I was a 40H when I started, I lost 75 pounds and went down to a 34G. I'm about 15 pounds from my goal weight now and I'm not seeing any real change. I've been hoping that with my last 15 pounds I'll start seeing it drop from my chest, but it just doesn't seem likely at this point and when I hit my goal weight, if I haven't had a drastic natural reduction, I'm going to have to have them surgically reduced for back issues, I'm just really hoping they reduce themselves naturally.

Edit to Add - people struggling with finding a GOOD bra and getting a GREAT fitting need to check out Nordstrom. Their lingerie girls are trained really well and even though you'll end up spending a lot on the bra you choose, it's totally worth it. Being a G cup means that finding a physical store with a selection of bras I can try on is near impossible, but Nordstrom has them and I can try on piles of bras there, and Wacoal makes an Awareness bra that is a great minimizer and holds everything tight, that's what I use to workout in since I hate the massiveness of a sports bra in my size.

Much of the breast is fat tissue. Some women lose this fat earlier in their weight loss journey, while others lose it later. But yes, regardless of when you lose it, you will lose fat in your breasts as your overall body fat percentage goes down. With very rare exceptions, there is no such thing as a DD or larger with 20-22% body fat ratio unless they are implants.

I'm one of those exceptions. I'm under 20% - somewhere between 17 and 18% body fat and still a DD. I've always had huge boobs for my size and had to fight against having a reduction (damn Doctors and Parents). Boob loss with weightloss is very much so individual and up to genetics. My sister has lost 80 pounds and lost most of her boobs but at 300 pounds she was only a C cup.

not trying to be a ***** here, but i think this is only because you actually are wearing the right size bra. (kudos on that btw!)

most American women your size would be wearing a 34C or 36B and thinking they were small chested.
in general, the concept of "DD" is huge, where in my world and business, it's actually very small.

few people get the fact that a DD is not a static size and varies hugely with the band size acompanying it.

So very true! When I go to places like Victoria Secret they try to tell me that I'm a 34 C. The band is literally big enough to fit my arm in it! I always go to a "specialty" shops - the older ones - that cutomize, fit, and measure bras. It's more expensive but I have bras that are the right size.

Wish we could spot check and put the weight back in the boobs :(

I totally agree! Seems like almost all of my weight lost so far has been from my boobs :( Didn't have much to begin with and now even less. Wish the fat would leave my belly so at least my boobs would look a little bigger!

    1- look smaller
2- be properly supported and not feel as cumbersome
3- fit in your clothes better

If you are buying anything at VS you are doing yourself a huge disservice.

now, they are your boobs, and I do not presume to tell you what to do with them, but i have been there, and hated mine for years and years.
    good luck to you

I'm going to agree with the above, I always thought I was a DD then finally got fitted as an F and if it wasn't for finding a fantastic fitter I'm happy with would not have known I had gone up again, and one massive bonus is when I get/got fitted for changes I felt a lot more comfortable in bra. I now know I need to go back again as it's rubbing and causing pain which should NEVER happen and means it's fitter wrong.... still didn't know about back/cup sizes but that makes sense and has always baffled me

    VS is garbage.
many women will jump on me and disagree with me, but truly, that's because they do not know better, yet.
I tried a VS calculator someone posted on here a few weeks ago, I think they had me in a 40C or d from my measurements?
I'm a 30J. I can wear the 40D around my hips, but it wont stay on my ribs, and it wont even begin to encompass my boobs, let alone hold them up or shape them in any way. Once in a while when Im in VS with a friend i haven't converted yet, and a particularly pushy salesgirl insists she can find me a bra after i tel her the shop has nothing in my size, I try one on to show them.

I've been fitted wrongly many many times in my life (prior to me learning to fit myself and others many years ago) but never quite so badly as with the VS calculator.

UK bras ladies, they are so much better. Especially for the better endowed of us.
I promise, you will never go back.

you can order from bravissimo/pepperberry (same shop) online.
they are very expensive, but if you have any trouble finding shirts that don't gape, or formal dresses that fit the boobs and don;t swamp you everywhere else they are great.

    also BiuBiu is good.
I would think as a 30DD you don't have a horrible time of it, but if ever you find yourself desperate keep them in mind.

in terms of bras, you should be able to find your size all over ebay for about $30 a bra (which is way less than you'd pay in any store that actually carries them in the US)
bravissimo has them, but they will cost mroe than twice that much.

I've lost 50+ pounds so far and only gone down one bra size (from 42D to 40C)
That in itself doesnt bother me - I expected it - but my rear has gone down two sizes so its not proportionate - hey ho - thats the way things happen.
I expect to see another bra size down when I lose another 20 lbs or so - I would like to end up as a 38B but then I shall have a bra surplus - but isnt it fun buying new ones???

36C to 34D -- They're pretty much the same size.

    Absolutely not!

In the perfect world I'd be a 35D. I can wear a 34 D on the widest hooks or a 36 D on the narrowest hooks. I can not however, stuff my boobs into a C cup, no way, no how.

The shop I go to near me was actually started by a woman from the UK! I've been going to this shop for about 8 years and I have no intention of leaving - unless it's to go to a place that she recommends.

The cup volume on a 30DD and a 34C may be the same but they can't just be swapped out. VS does not get that!

that's hilarious because I actually buy my bras at a lot of different department stores and whereveer i can afford them and they are all the same. If I was that big I wouldn't fit into a DD cup no matter where I bought them from. How about get off of your high horse and stop acting like you know ****. I fit in all of my clothes perfectly fine I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. That picture is not only 1) older but it is also taken with a ****ty as camera. You go and make assumptions about peopel but you aren't right and you aren't 'helping' anyone. You might have money to piss away going to professional places but if I'm fiting just fine in my bras and having no problem I dont' see why you feel the need to tell me I don't like my boobs becuase of my bra. I've hated them since I was ten and they showed up and I was the only girl who had them at ten and I hated them when they got bigger.

now, they are your boobs, and I do not presume to tell you what to do with them, but i have been there, and hated mine for years and years.
    good luck to you

I'm going to agree with the above, I always thought I was a DD then finally got fitted as an F and if it wasn't for finding a fantastic fitter I'm happy with would not have known I had gone up again, and one massive bonus is when I get/got fitted for changes I felt a lot more comfortable in bra. I now know I need to go back again as it's rubbing and causing pain which should NEVER happen and means it's fitter wrong.... still didn't know about back/cup sizes but that makes sense and has always baffled me

you are lucky, living in the UK you have a huge amount of choice as to what you can get!
In terms of fitting, with most women even a 5lb-10Lb (half a stone!!!) weight gain or loss can affect the fit of your bra. Bras also get worn out and stretch, so even if your size doesn't seem to have changed, it's always best to buy new bras every 6 months or so.
most women in the US wear the wrong size to begin with, but this is mostly because the right size is not available so even "trained" fitters don't fit you properly, they fit you into what they sell. Also because we have a concept of certain sizes being static (i.e. a DD is HUGE, when in a 28 Band a DD is actually smaller than a petite orange half)

Don't know if you have it in the US but we have Bravissimo and Pepperberry that are amazing shops and clothes are made to fit your bust, so you can get a dress that fits both bottom and top!!

I've heard of them but we don't have them in the US unfortunately. :(

you can order from bravissimo/pepperberry (same shop) online.
they are very expensive, but if you have any trouble finding shirts that don't gape, or formal dresses that fit the boobs and don;t swamp you everywhere else they are great.

    also BiuBiu is good.

It's not too horrible. I get most of my clothes tailored to fit. Amazon is pretty good for getting my size and there price range is $40 to $60.

That depends on your genetic makeup. For some they do, for some they don't. Mine didn't.

i didn't get myself fitted there 'honey' i just buy them there because they're the only place that has support in a bra that i can get to not to mention i will NEVER like my boobs no matter where i buy my bras tyvm. i don't like how huge they are and i don't want them to be this big so don't presume to think that you know me well enough to think that a bra shop is going to change that.

i do not know YOU, but I know bras, and breasts.
you are NOT a DD, you are at least an FF or G cup (if that is your picture on your profile).
while you might not like this truth, or want to recognise it, I meant to help you and not harm. You would feel far better about your breasts in general with a properly fitting bra as they would:
    1- look smaller
2- be properly supported and not feel as cumbersome
3- fit in your clothes better

If you are buying anything at VS you are doing yourself a huge disservice.

now, they are your boobs, and I do not presume to tell you what to do with them, but i have been there, and hated mine for years and years.

I also experienced a lot of bad fittings. VS really dropped the ball for me (but I suspect it's because they don't go above a DD and didn't want to lose the sale), the girl there had me trying on bras in a DD with a band 4 inches larger than the one I walked in with so I just ended up with part of my boobs in the cup and the rest smashed under the band. Sexy. *eyeroll*

Macy's also dropped the ball for me, I went for a fitting and the girl measured me and told me I was something like a 38 DDD. I then proceeded to try on about 30 bras and NOTHING fit properly. I got fed up and left and walked to Nordstrom, which ended up being the best decision I ever made. I got measured in at a 40H and tried on piles of bras that fit beautifully, and when you have a massive chest, having OPTIONS in your bras is an amazing feeling. They actually sat against my breast bone (which I was 100% certain was impossible with boobs as big as mine) and they looked great. Since then, I exclusively go to Nordstrom for measuring and bra purchasing, and I recommend it to everyone with a large chest, I only regret that I went who knows how long wearing poorly fitting bras because I had never seen anything beyond a DDD in a store. I hate my boobs, with a passion I hate them, but they are much more tolerable with a good bra.

Nothing wrong with VS, but don't get fitted there. I love their Body By Victoria bras, they fit me well and make my boobs look 20 years younger.

Another thing to one, ALWAYS try a bra on before you buy it. Try it on, jump around, bend over, sit, stand, walk. Then out a shirt in. Were you bouncy or was it supporting you? How dies it look? Are you hanging out of it? Do you have side boobs? This goes for all bras, not just VS.
