For those who like diet coke, got some bad news.

I drank a 2 liter Diet Pepsi every day for about 30 years. Every day. Never knew what caffeine withdrawal was. NO cavities

"...2 liters of diet soda daily for three to five years experienced tooth rot and decay..."
Um, yeah. That's a lot of soda.0 -
"The woman referenced in this article did not receive dental health services for more than 20 years -- two-thirds of her life,"
Would that have had anything to do with it as well? :noway:
 this!
I'm against diet coke, but I have to admit that this article is pretty stupid.0 -
Hey dude! You sure love that picture! That's the third times I see you post it today! :laugh:0 -
I love drinking diet coke.. Does that make me a meth addict? If so, please don't tell my mom. It would break her heart :brokenheart:0

You know what the even worse news is? That this anecdote was mistaken for a legitimate study. A sample size that small represents, well... next to nothing. And once again, correlation does not equal causation. Who's to say that the woman in this 'study' didn't have pre-existing dental conditions? I mean, she hadn't been to a dentist in 20 years.
Sorry, but this is so full of fail that I think the doctor who conducted the research might just be a troll.0 -

the hobo down the street drinks diet coke. he hasnt brushed his teeth in 10 years, but lets just ignore that and say it was the diet coke's fault0 -
you should really learn what meth really does and what coke does before spitting out some information that anyone can write.
I want to start a website wtih the domain wwwbecauseitsonlineitisright.com or www.itsanarticlemustbecorrect.com
www.therewasabookonit.com
All of those re-directed me to some pretty hot porn, thanks a lot! >:I0 -
The solution is to brush your teeth and floss regularly and follow soda with water as a chaser.
There are tons of people who drink lots of soda every day and have never had a single cavity in their life0 -
pffff. diet coke. I cut open a battery. waaaay more acidy goodness.0

The research is clearly dumb, but my little brother's dentist did credit diet drinks with damaging his teeth too, but again, just anecdotal.
Part of my understanding is that it's bacteria which creates tooth decay which is why some people with good dental hygiene can still have problems while others don't. I'm particularly thinking of very young children, most of whom can eat pretty much anything and be fine as long as brushing takes place, and others who have huge problems even with very cautious parents. So, any study would have to take these differences into account too.0 -
Wow. Here's another one. Sign the petition now to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide! It's very toxic in large doses!

What's with all the meth and diet coke bashing these days? I thought this was a site for unconditional love and support.0

TLDR. Brush your teeth twice a day.
Yea. This ^^0 -
Diet drinks are pure poison, aspartame, google that, more to worry about than teeth enamel!
Finally a person with some common sense.
exactly! don't you know that aspartame is more toxic than spent nuclear fuel!!!!!0 -
Don't care. I know how to use a toothbrush.
That won't prevent erosion. In fact, if you brush your teeth after drinking (diet) coke or something like orange juice, it will only worsen the erosion. Best is to drink a glass of milk or water after drinking something like diet coke, so the neutral pH of water/milk wil cancel out the cancel out the bad effects from coke.
The key to drinking soda, diet or otherwise safely is to limit the exposure time in your mouth. Don't sip. Drink it and be done with it. If you sip on even a small amount over a long period of time you are marinated your teeth in acids and sugars. Drinking a pop with a meal is not likely to do much damage. Just be wise how you consume it. And for all you heavy pop drinkers with no tooth decay, you are lucky. I hope it doesn't catch up to you.0 -

In other news, cardio makes you fat. I saw two fat chicks running the other day and this one time, I saw a fat dude on a treadmill - so based upon (admittedly limited) anecdotal evidence, running and using the treadmill makes people fat. Same logic as the "study" posted by the OP.0 -

HEY! don't tell me what to do.

Fruit juices, regular soda, diet soda, etc all can do this. I think the article though is a very extreme case. And it's true about waiting to brush your teeth after consuming those things as it will help cause erosion.
I can't link anything from my tablet, but my hubby is always looking up stuff on teeth health...and I also have seen commercials saying similar things.0 -
I lost interest when I saw that it was a 'study' of ONE woman who didn't go to a dentist for even a routine cleaning for 20 years.0
