This is a public service announcement to inform you of a few key monthly occurences in the lifecycle of womankind. Boys, I'm talking about periods. The kind with tampons. I see you turning around right now, go on, shoo.
Now, women. If you are within a hormonally-normalized weight range, you should be getting your period, on average, every 28 days or so. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menstruation, for more information). This event is totally normal and is also referred to around here as "TOM" for "time of the month" or Shark Week, in reference to PURELY METAPHORICAL SHARKS, the kind in your pants.
Note the following symptoms, which may help you figure out if you are on your period:
:flowerforyou: Weight gain is typically associated with TOM Yes, it is completely normal to gain weight on your period.
:flowerforyou: Weight gain is not actual weight, but water weight or "bloating." You will see that weight go away when your period goes away.
:flowerforyou: You may feel the urge to snack more Also completely normal. If you indulge, don't feel guilty. Just move on and do better the next day.
:flowerforyou: You can still work out! Pop an Advil and get to the gym. You'll be fine, and it might even make you feel better.
Based on the frequency of TOM threads, I am hoping this information will reassure any of you who might be concerned about weight gain during TOM. Good luck on your journeys!:flowerforyou:

Oh great. Discovery Channel's "Shark Week" is forever damaged for me . . .
Oh, and, oooooo, icky, girl parts!0 -
I honestly think that the TOM threads Arise, not from Solely the weight gain/ loss,
but from the emotional and hormonal driven moods,
i know about 2-3 times a year i get serious rage issues, like i could divorce my whole life and gladly go on a killing spree based on the driving habits of others around me,
or strangle the kindly old lady who asks me if im happy to be a grand mom seeing my 3 year old twins .
OR the sleeplessness based on the paranoid thoughts and things that come into my head .. poor impulse control, etc...
I think thats part of it ... but then what do i know.... im just a poor woman...0 -
Does your body burn extra calories shedding the unwanted tissue?0

I don't know, I'm a scuba diver, and Shark Week means something altogether different when you are a menstruating woman - or her dive buddy.

Thank you for clarifying the Shark Week metaphor. I kept getting really excited about Shark Week, only to turn on Discovery channel and - NOTHING! Huge let down every time.0

If it goes away, you'll know.
If you've logged an additional 17,500 calories, you'll know, too.0 -

I thought TOM was this really popular fella on here; women spoke of him often but I must say not always complimentary--I also though he was English since the word bloody was used quite a bit. And now we move on to our regularly(pun intended) scheduled program...get moving!!!!! Lift heavy stuff, record, etc.0

Perhaps we could ask for a button next to the "post reply" button that says "are you hormonal?" and if you click yes, it sends your message into the far reaches of Internet Never Never Land, where nobody needs to see it and you don't get embarrassed by it later.0 -
Can I workout while I am on my period?0
-
If my girlfriend is having her period and does not want intercourse, is it OK to resume sex with my wife for that week?0
-
