Where to hold iPod when lifting?

When I go to the gym, I take my Kindle to watch shows while I am on the treadmill. When I lift (which I have recently just started), I put the Kindle away. I use machine weights at the moment (until I feel more comfortable). I find that not having music on when lifting helps me keep count of my reps and just to keep focused in general.0

You can get an armband or you can stick it in your bra :P
Please do not put it in your bra- as there has been a possible correlation between breast cancer and phones being stored there! Go ahead with the arm band0 -
I used to put my phone (LG myTouch - http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-LGC800VL-mytouch-q) in my bra while working out, but the sweat seeped into some of the buttons and now they don't work quite as well. Now I use an old fashioned cell phone carrying case clipped to my workout pants (Cellet Bergamo Case - http://tinyurl.com/Bcellcase). It stays put, stays out of my way and does the job.0

Walmart carries some Danskin brand workout tops that have an ipod pocket near the top right of the chest.
This! And they are very inexpensive. Maybe $7 USD?0 -
I'm sure you'll get 1000 response for where to put it, so I'm going to go a different route.
Lifting is not just about pushing weight around. There is a very clear, very important mental component to it as well, one that I've only recently realized and one that the vast majority of gym-goers have no clue about. IMO, leave the ipod at home when you are lifting so you can be as focused as possible during each lift.
If you're worried about your ipod, your head isn't where it should be and you're not getting the most out of your workouts.
I understand what you're saying. For me personally, though, it helps me focus MORE on what I'm doing because it blocks out everything else around me... I used to be scared ****less going into the "men's territory" (free weight area) and would worry so much about other people judging me. Now, it's like they're not there. Thanks for the responses, everyone!0 -
I sweat too but my sports bra is the only place where I can put it without it getting in the way.0

I wear mine in an armband every time I lift and it doesn't get in the way or loosen at all. The wire for headphones did get in the way, but I got a bluetooth set. I found my armband at Marshall's for $10, but they often times have them for the same price at TJ Maxx, Ross, Burlington Coat Factory, etc.
I've read a couple of posts saying that you should put the iPod down and focus on your lifting. My experience is that music helps drown out any excessive grunting, fellow gym-goers wanting to chat it up, or any other distractions; it helps keep me focused on my training... But, I might just have an undiagnosed case of ADHD or something. :laugh:0 -
I'd wrap it in a papertowel or something and stick it in my bra. I usually put mine on the outside under my left arm and not in between the chesticles. I also have a pair of running shorts that has a zipper pocket that I have found handy on occasion for holding my ipod/iphone.0

Hopefully you can find something cheap to work for you! :flowerforyou: Let me know if the tube sock thing works out. I've been thinking about trying it for running, but I'm also afraid of having a giant white stripe on my arm because I run outside and get tan lines. :laugh:0 -

To each his own, but I personally find it very distracting when there are chattering girls, grunting dudes, and people singing or playing their own music aloud without headphones around me. It's easier to focus if I tune them out with my low background music as a sort of white noise buffer.0 -
not sure if its been mentioned but i got the Ipod shuffle...$49...so tiny you can clip it anywhere...i hated dragging my phone around.0

I use an armband for my iphone. Though I sometimes get annoyed with my headphone cord and ditch the whole thing.0

I don't use my iPod touch to listen to music while lifting because, as a previous poster said, I'm am busy concentrating on my form as I am new to this. I do use the SL5x5 tracking app so I just put my iPod on the floor next to the power cage and go from there.
When I walk/run, I use an armband strapped to my left hand so I can easily see my progress/distance/pace with Nike+.0 -
You can always get a phone casing with a belt clip, then clip it to your pants. My wife moved away from her arm band because it interferes with her lifts, so I got her a belt clip for her ipod.0

I use an armband when I run I never have any issues with it slipping.0
-
I use my stretchy armband. It does not interfere with my lifts, because it's... stretchy.
Which one do you use? I've been looking for an awesome armband. TIA!0 -
love my armband. Spring for it. it will stay tight0

do NOT put it in your bra! Please
This can cause breast cancer because of the radiation...

I have an armband (bought it at target) doesn't move or shift when I lift. And I'm doing about an hour of weights. I've never had an easy, the material is meant to stay put. Honestly a lot of people at the gym use them. I also go trail running with mine and it holds still. Mine is for my Samsung S III. So it's bigger and heavier than a typical ipod. I'm sure you'd have no issue.0

I pretty much tune out everything when I lift so I really couldn't tell you what was on the gym music system playing while I lifted.
Yep. Plus I hate being permanently attached to technology. It ain't healthy.0 -
buy a pair of regular shorts or sweat pants that have a regular pocket??? this isn't rocket surgery.
but if you want something more secure, i have a few pairs of nike dri-fit running pants that i often lift in. they're really really light so perfect in the summer, and they have zippered pockets.0 -
I buy the Danskin brand tanks that have the built in sports bras, and Marika Tek pants. They both have built in pockets, specifically for that reason0

For anyone looking for a good bluetooth headset, check this one out: http://www.arriva.com/leo/
I use it for everything, running, lifting, ellitptical. It stays put and you never have to worry about it falling off.0 -
I have a Motorola with interchangeable ear bud sizes. I love it....and it is sweatproof.0

I just had this discussion with my boyfriend. Unlike men's athletic apparel that usually contains pockets, most women't attire does not. Or if they do they often aren't big enough.0 -
Might be a dumb question, but whatever. Now that it's getting HOT out (and now that I've stopped relying mostly on cardio machines--woot!), I won't always have a hoody on me to hold my phone (which I use for music). Women's workout clothes aren't pocket-friendly. I was considering getting an armband, but I've been trying to focus more on lifting, and won't that come loose whenever I contract my arm?! I sweat too much to stick it in my waistband or sports bra. Please tell me I'm not doomed to a fanny pack!
Clenched between your butt cheeks when lifting, it benefits form, and gives the ipod a safe and warm place to relax.0
