Love avocados! I am going to start incorporating 1/2 an avocado per day into my diet again. Question for those of you who do this: how do you keep the other half from going brown until the next day? Anyone have a foolproof method of avocado preservation?0

So I bought one, I have no clue what to do with it, so I'm reading through here to see what the best way is to try it first (raw vs putting it on something) to even see if I like it or not. LOL!!!0

Keep the half with the seed in it... rub some lemon juice on it. May turn a little brown, but it's okay.
If it does go brown, you can still eat it. It just changes color, still tastes yummy.0 -

in my green smoothies, in place of mayo for egg salad, top my chicken breast, great on a burger, in a turkey club, on whole wheat toast with avacado and sugar free strawberry jam, cut it in half, sprinkle generously with black pepper and eat with a spoon0

I looooooooove avocados. I tend to eat them with a pinch of salt and have 1 whole avocado a day.0

When I make deviled eggs, I replace the mayo with avocado... YUMMY!! Of course they are brown the next day but who cares!!!
A squeeze of lemon or lime juice will keep it from turning brown.0 -
My top two favorite avocado combinations (use any way you want): avocado with smoked salmon, and avocado with balsamic vinegar.0

I always keep avocados in the fridge at work... if I'm hungry I have a healthy snack on hand instead of being tempted by the vending machine!
In fact, I'm going to go eat one right now0 -
Bumping for ideas:)0

I'm making fajitas right now with avocado in them.
Great minds. We're having the same for dinner.0 -

I am not a huge avocado fan but my mom is super into them.
She makes open faced toasted sandwiches with sliced tomato, sliced avocado, light cheese, salt and pepper.0 -
I've just started to incorporate avocados into my diet...along with extra virgin olive oil. For the past 20 years I avoided the goodness of avocados thinking that they will only make me fatter. Hah, a lot of good that did. Now I am going to include this food in my diet because I want healthy "fats" and I feel certain this is the right track for me. I made a salad last night for dinner with the following from the Farmer's Market: Diced avocado, heirloom tomatoes, baby cucumbers, fresh mozzerella -- drizzeled in a little olive oil, lemon, and balsamic vinegar.0

I love Avocados.
I live in Springfield, Mo and the avocados we have been getting are hard.
Heard you can put them in a Paper Sack and they will ripen, so that is what I am doing.
I Love Avocados. When I fix me a Blt, I use the mashed avocado on my bread instead of mayo
I heard yesterday about having an Avocado Smoothie.
Has anyone tried that, if so , Could I have the Recipe0 -
I eat tons of avocados! LOVE them! I add them in salads or use mashed avocado in place of mayo on sandwiches.0

I tried avacado for the 1st time yesterday raw, I have had it in guacamole but obv thats mixed with different stuff. OMG its DELISH. Was a little unsure at first as i am funny with food textures but the taste YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. One problem tho... I went to eat the other half today that i had put in a tupperware box in fridge and its gone brown and looks far from appealing so i never ate it will just have to buy smaller one and eat a whole one in future.
I cannot believe i have not tried it sooner. But at least its in my life now0 -
Thanks for all the ideas. The tuna salad sounds yummy. I want to add avocados to my diet, but don't care too much for them plain. I'll have to try to spice it up some.0

Oooooo! Love this idea! When I make chicken salad or egg salad I use mashed up avocado instead of mayo... it's amazing0

Having been born and raised in Southern California, I grew up around avocados! We had an avocado tree in the back yard and they actually produced some really good ones! One of my favorite things to eat, which may sound a bit weird, is avocado and plain greek yogurt spread on sprouted grain bread. Sprinkle a little bit of pepper on it and you are good to go! greek yogurt is a great substitute for cream cheese, and it's got a lot of protein packed in there.
I also love putting avocado slices in egg white omelets.0 -
I LOVE avacados! I've made avacado pasta and it was tasty!!! I also make avacado and egg salad!!0

My aunt made pimento cheese and avocado sandwiches for a family picnic. They were so gooooood:)0

I avocados!0

When I have tuna I use a half of an avocado in place of mayo, tastes quite yummy
Someone else posted this, and I definitely need to try!0 -
Avocados are the *kitten*. I eat them a few times a week on sandwiches, and by themselves. I splurge every once in a blue moon and have a nice dessert with a half one and some sweetened condensed milk (a recipe from when I lived in the Philippines).
One thing I like to make is a grilled cheese pita, which consists of 1 mini pita (Tourayan Bakeries - Mini Pita 80 Calories Whole Wheat-80 cal), stuff it with 1 avocado slice and about 1/4 cup of 2% Mexican blend cheese, use a bit of pam in the skillet, and grill it like it's a grilled cheese.
It. Is. So. Good.I heard yesterday about having an Avocado Smoothie.
Has anyone tried that, if so , Could I have the Recipe
I really don't have a specific recipe for my smoothies, as I usually just throw whatever fruit I have on hand in the blender, but along with the about 1/2 an avocado, I use banana, blueberries, mandarin orange, peaches, apples, cantelope, PB2 (or on occasion real peanut butter), almond milk, vanilla flavored protein powder.0 -
Yumm. I wanna try the baked egg in an avocado. I slice mine into turkey sandwiches and sometimes smash with garlic salt with a little sour cream and dip tortilla chips in it. I am new to avocados so I love getting all these new recipes! Not too keen on raw without salt though..0
