What a great ride! Good job!0 -
Cycling is such a great exercise and it gets you outside and you can see so much. I started a year ago with a goal to ride a 25 mile course ( 1/4 century This year I started riding to work (13 miles each way) a couple times a week and try to get a 40-60 mile ride in on the weekend. It is addicting. There is an app, if you have a smartphone, call Strava, which is great for tracking your rides, but is fun, because people mark different segments of roads and Strava will tell you how you do compared to other folks as well as how you did compared to previous rides.
My goal this month is 400 miles.
A year ago that was a dream. Go and get addicted!!!
I'm hoping that I'm in your shoes by this time next year---right now 400 miles a month sounds unachievable but I love hearing testimonies like yours to inspire me. Will also pass on the Strava info to my hubby, who sometimes rides to work---he loves data like that!0 -
The month is half-way over, but I'd like to join.
I got a new bike this spring, and I'm loving riding and pushing myself. Today I biked 6 miles home from the beach with my 3 year old in a carrier on the back. She was worn out from splashing and fell asleep in her seat.
I love to go on early morning rides when it's just me with my thoughts and mug of coffee.
I'll make my goal 50 for the month, and I'm probably half-way there now I need to start tracking my miles.0 -

Cycling is about the only thing I do, always loved it and the only thing I hate about it is how hard it gets when it's windy but it has never stopped me from going out for a ride. I don't really have a monthly goal, it's more of a season goal of outdoing my 1000 miles from last summer. This year I began riding in February so I'm hoping for a late winter too... I don't calculate in miles being Canadian but I usually ride at least 20kms on a "short" run, will go for 30-40kms on a longer one, and exceptionally will do more. Last year my longest trip was 80kms but it was in extremely hot weather and I truly should've prepared better, I truly felt what it was to be too hot and not hydrated enough! My goal this year is to be able to make a 100km trip so I can go to this park outside of town where there's a beach because I don't have a car and there's no bus that goes there.0

I LOVE THIS THREAD!! I love cycling and I'm so glad so many people are starting to cycle!!
About 2 years ago I started cycling to lose weight (I've lost 34 pounds!) and get in shape but I had no idea where it would take me! When I started I was like many of you...I was biking 10 miles, then 13 miles, then 20 miles. And believe me, 20 miles would wear me out. I just kept pedaling and I did the California Death ride last year (total ride is 130 miles with 16,000 feet of elevation over 5 mountain passes in one day) and completed 3 passes. This year I'm going to finish all 5 passes!! I am also starting a bit of racing, which is crazy, dangerous, and exhilarating. The big event is on July 13 so these next few weeks are going to be full of plenty of biking for me! Just stick with it because you have no idea where it might take you!! I sure never thought I would be biking up 5 mountain passes in one day, and even now when I talk about it is seems like a ridiculous thing to do.
So far this month I've biked 340 miles and this week (by Sunday) alone I plan on biking 260 miles.0 -
