E cigarettes?
Hey everyone,
I quit smoking a couple of years ago, but I'm totally guilty of smoking when I drink. My BF hates it and I always wake up regretting it. None of that seems to matter when I'm a few drinks deep though! So I'm considering getting an e-cigarette...I have looked at the "eroll" and the "510"...those seem smaller and more suitable for part time use...
Any recommendations?

Thanks Tips! You've really made a difference in my life and now I hope to change to become an abstainer...of everything!!!
But seriously...anyone have any actual advice...like about the topic I posted?0 -
That was all good advice. Put the Alcohol down and step away from the smokes.
Also have enough respect for your BF and don't smoke. He didn't fall in love w/a smoker, so why put him thru that.
I also think you are a bit snotty and if you didn't want to hear the truth you shouldn't have asked.0 -
Enjoy your booze. Why not just buy whatever they have up front at the gas station and see how you like it?0
-
Also, how is anyone sposed to take you seriously when your on a Health and Fitness site double fisting huge brews.
Grow up.
Go buy the dang E-Cig trade one addiction for another and continue drinking, that's always the answer isn't it?0 -
The Blue brand sucks. Look into one of the kinds that have attachment that you can change out yourself. The ones that look similar to this are the closest to a real cigarette in my opinion

Having used one to quit smoking a few months ago I have to say I don't think it will do anything for you. E Cigs are nothing like the real thing. They don't taste, smell or feel the same so it's likely your urge to smoke is not going to be satisfied by one.0
-
Umm, do not stop drinking, it's not poison ...
My take on the E-cig ... if it's once in a while, what's the likely hood of you busting that thing out, while your buddies puff on a real one? If you're committed to it I'd say go for it, but if it's going to be one of those, "well if I remember to bring it" type of situations, don't waste your money.0 -

Honestly I think the advice you were giving about alcohol was great. If the only time you ever smoke at this point is while intoxicated, then it should be pretty obvious what the problem is.
Good luck!0 -
Why not go for a tobacco vaporizer. It will be slightly more healthy for you, and looks awesome!0
-
I suggest the 510. that's what I started on. now I use EGO but they are larger than normal cigarettes. just starting out you should be able to find a 510 kit for around $30. get the strongest nicotine strengths you can then starting out you can always taper it down later0

I think you might need to weigh options here... Either stop drinking, or stop drinking so much that you want to smoke, or remove yourself from the group of people enabling you to smoke.
if you think the e-cig option would work, give it a shot
my husb used an e-cig to try to quit smoking real ciggies and he ended up just going back to the real ones after he came home from deployment eventually I had to lay down the law and he quit pretty much cold turkey. He will still have a butt when we are with friends drinking but if I dont want him to, all I have to do is make sure he doesnt...
its a slippery slope0 -

I used to have one and it was not the best model id say, but it was great and way better and cleaner than smoking.
you can also get them with no nicotine, which being a non smoker would be better.
they make cigarettes taste discusting cause they are so clean and you still get the hit in the back of your throat.
why yall telling her to stop drinking? she can drink if she wants, and she asked about e cigarettes, not about if she should stop drinking.
nothing wrong with a few beers if thats what you're into.0 -
Hey - so if you have a choice between caving for the 4000 chemicals in a cigarette - I would say definitely go for the 3 ingredients of the ejuice used in ecigs. Be sure to get it without nicotine, so you are not restarting an addiction. I definitely believe it could be a big help. You will still get the hand to mouth, the throat hit, and see the smoke (which is really just vapor). I would recommend going with something like the 510 - as it will be most like a cigarette, and likely best fill this craving.
Good luck to you! It is all about taking it one day a time, and doing your best to make a healthier lifestyle for yourself. You will find what works for you! Don't worry about the perfect people on here This is YOUR journey!!!!0 -
I use the VaporKing e-cigs from Vapor4Life.com:

If the only time you smoke is during drinking, then it's not the nicotine that is getting you, it's more than likely the action of smoking.
You can give those a try and see if they help. A bunch of my friends vape, and it's about 50-50 regarding the percentage of people who find it a suitable replacement for the real thing.
ETA: the cartomizers I use have no nicotine in them at all.0 -
I don't see anything wrong with you drinking either. As long as its an occassional thing. Everything in moderation. I too crave ciggarettes when I'm drinking, but I only drink a handful of times out of the year. I have been struggling quitting smoking for years so the problem definitely isn't the alcohol.
I don't know much about the e-Cigs. I popped in here to read the comments. But I think you should try it. I hope you come back and update this thread when you do. I would love to know how this works out for you.0 -

I've been vaping for 4 years. Helped me quit 2 of the years, cut back since.
This below is an ego, and what the above posters have recommended. It is 100% suggested over the other brands. Everyone has their favorite brand of liquids though. I buy local from elixir liquid, but they have an online store. But yeah. Get an Ego Single Twist V2 650. Its rather cheap, small and of high quality.
510 is the threading. Think like.. the teeth of the bolts and what not. Theres a 901 threading that is common in disposable and lesser quality products. Haven't seen a good 901.
510 mini's are the little ecigs that look like cigarettes. They are nice, but they have a few issues. A) Short battery life. If you get a 510 mini, get 2 or 3 of them, or you'll be vaping 3 hours, then breaking 3 hours for it to charge. They have a this automatic system that sometimes goes off in your pocket... creating heavy burn and screwing up a atomizer/cartomizer/tankaomizer (Different delivery and storage system for the ecig). C) They just aren't strong. You don't get a good flavor, or sensation of nicotine.
The parts are essentially...
Battery (Like the ego)
Atomizer/Cartomizer/Tankaomizer (Different delivery and storage system for the ecig)
Ejuice. (A billion of flavors out there. You think of it, it can exist or already exist)
This is an atomizer and cartridge setup. Its not as popular anymore. People use tankomizers mostly from what I've seen lately.
One of the issues though is that it may not be right for you. The less nicotine the less throat hit. Without the throat hit it just kind of.. feels like you are inhaling perfume. So it'd continue your nicotine addiction.. so it seems counter intuitive if your intent is to stay quit. Now, if your intent is to just not smell as bad and annoy your boyfriend, get one of those, get it with 24-36 mg of nioctine. Just enjoy it. I will say they don't taste like cigarettes. I started with 555 for my ejuice flavor. It was like tobacco, some kind of wood, and peanutbutter together. Was good, and it led me to do all the sweet flavors instead of tobacco.0 -
I worry that there are at present no standards or control over them, I'm sure these, along with studies of long term effects will eventually come out.
My take in general on e-cigs is that they should stop selling them to children, that's messed up.
In your case, I'd worry about them causing a relapse due to them containing nicotine, while arguing that they are probably better than smoking.
In short, try to give up drin.. er I mean smoking, but if that doesn't work these might be less harmful.0 -

1. when you ask for advice, you don't get to choose what people say
2. you said your bf hates it
3. you said you do it once *you are a few drinks in* which means you drink even more
4. you said you regret it
I stand by my advice. While I don't think alcohol is poison, I do think it is causing issues for you.0 -
My partner found them more addictive than ciggs. needless to say hes once again smoking. He is going to try & stop but this time with patches only x0

If you are smoking when you drink you haven't actually quit smoking , just do what you want as I've heard you only die once !0

That was useful, relevant advice. If you can't control your behavior while drinking, you should consider drinking less.0 -

She's made it clear that she has no interest in changing that habit. She didn't ask how she could quit smoking while drinking. All she wanted to know was if others found the E-cig to be a suitable replacement.0 -

Wow. You need to lighten up. It's not that serious.
I'm sure I have a playful picture of me somewhere with a couple of beers in front of me. I've even had a couple beers or a couple glasses of wine on multiple occasions. Maybe even once a week (OH NOES!).
I do CrossFit four times a week and I"m training for a Tough Mudder. I eat healthfully more often than not. Should I not be taken seriously now?
A lot of people on this site are learning how to make small adjustments to their preferred lifestyle. I would never not take someone seriously just because they have a drink or two when they are out or because they have a fun picture posted. Get a grip, dude.0 -

I'm guessing that the places you go to drink still allow smoking inside? That's a problem then. The only thing I can say is to respect your boyfriend and just not smoke. Don't even do an e-cigarette because you're not curbing the bad habit. Find something else to do with the empty hand. Hold a straw.
If your state DOES have the no smoking law then it's simple: respect your boyfriend and don't go outside for smokes with your friends.
When I started dating my husband I was smoking. He flat out told me he doesn't date smokers. I quit smoking that day because I liked him and respected that he didn't want me to smoke. It's been 17 years since that day and I am glad I stopped. I will admit that the first few times I was at a bar it was hard to get used to my empty hand but that didn't last long.
If you know your bf will be mad and you will have regret the next day then just stop. Don't trade one habit (smoking) in for another habit (e-cigarettes).0 -
LOVE LOVE LOVE the e-smokes! I smoked for 27 years and it still keeps me satisfied and I have been a non-smoker for 1.5 years now. I think you should go to London Drugs and try the disposables of a few different kinds to find which one does it for you.0

There are lot of people who only smoke when they drink. For some reason they seem to be linked to each other. The best bet is to try and stop all together. Dont buy cigarettes before you go out. Tell you friends not to offer you any at all when you are drinking.
I had read somewhere that there were health concerns about e-cigs due to the lack of research and information on health benefits. As Ironsmasher said, currently there is no legislation in place with regards to selling them etc. so you dont actually know what is them. Here is an article from the Guardian about them.

Seriously though, try diversion techniques first before contemplating buying these.
Good luck0
