I know beer isn't on my diet..BUT.....

I enjoy my occasional Guinness. It is thick and rich so I am perfectly satisfied with one. Go for the beer you really love.0

I personally could not face dieting without a couple of beers or glasses of wine throughout the course of the week. I might want to die slim one day (far in the future) but I don't want to live miserable just to get there.
I find drinking real ale is a much better choice- the ABV% is higher, but I find that makes me feel less like having a second (or third) and the richer flavour is more satisfying.
In the glorious weather I am currently sweating through in the UK, a cold Newcastle Brown Ale hits the spot quicker and more effectively for me than a Budweiser or Stella. Lager makes me want to glug all afternoon.

I personally do not drink beer - however my husband who is now watching his calorie intake likes to have a few. He usually drinks bud light and bud light lime. I grabbed him Miller 64 and select 55 to try.
He prefers the Miller 64 but if you do not like bud light try the select 55 (number in name is calorie count)
If you only have a few every few months or so - go for what you like. Do not deprive yourself! I usually drink Smirniff Ice which is about 175 per bottle. When I want to drink..I go for what i like. I just cut my cals back a bit over the week then add in an extra workout to off set some of the hit.0 -
If I am going to drink a beer it has to be a good beer and I will work it into my numbers! Otherwise I will drink water!0

Personally, beer is nasty, but that's just my personal opinion.
At least wine has antioxidants. But truly, if you are going to drink, then drink what you want. The occassional indulgence will not ruin your health in the long-term.0 -
Sam Adams Light has 119 calories per 12 oz, as opposed to the standard 150 calories, and it doesn't taste like a light beer!0

If I decide to have a couple beers every now and then, I don't see any harm. My question is though, which beer tastes the best that has the least amount of calories? I don't want to drink bud light. Blah. Maybe I should just drink two really good tasting beers and not worry about the calories. I'd drink white wine but I know that has a lot of sugar in it. I just don't know. When I decide to have a couple drinks which I will do eventually, wine or beer? Decisions Decisions.
The way I look at it is that I'm not dieting, I'm just being more aware of what I'm consuming. I have not eliminated anything (including beer, Heineken drinker here), but I do try to plan ahead so that I have room left in my #'s for the day. If I end up going over my #'s for a day because I had a beer or 2 I don't worry the slightest bit about it, I know I'm not going to be over by much & it's only 1 day so it will not take me off track. I have found that this approach works best for me, I'm not missing anything because I haven't stopped having anything, I just keep an eye on how much & how often....
Bottom line, relax & enjoy the things you like - just do so in moderation & you'll be fine.....
Edited - A 12 oz. Heineken (NOT the light version) is 150 calories....0 -
Banning things tends to backfire, as does consistently choosing disappointing substitutes for what you wanted in the first place.
^This. Trying to use the "I can't have that" or substituting something less enjoyable has always led me to failure. Having what I want but controlling it has been much more successful, at least for me.....0 -

Typically white is a little lower in calories (10-20 calories per glass lower) than red, but it varies by type of wine.
I drink both beer and wine (more wine). It didn't stop me from losing or maintaining the loss. I just make sure I don't overdo it too often.0 -
if you want a beer- drink a beer- make sure you account for it through the rest of the week by adding a margin of error in there (buffer zone)
and don't go for one of those stupid lite beers- or 64 oz or whatever- drink what you want- enjoy it. Don't waste beer calories on a beer you won't enjoy.
Drink what you want. I personally ONLY allow myself to drink Friday/Saturday- and I rarely drink EVERY friday/saturday- mostly I have one or two on one night and that's it. Don't get crazy with it- despite all the diet/counting etc etc- we still only have one life to live.0 -
Becks light 64 calories 3.4 carbs and great taste0

My thing about beer is this. That watered down light stuff is not what it's about. It's about the body, the flavor, and the enjoyment of the beer itself.
Ergo, when I drink a beer, I either work into my day or I work it off. I'd rather have one really good beer than 3 lower calorie beers.0 -
I drink what I want and count it towards my daily goal. I won't drink anything but craft brewed beer, usually IPA. The current one I'm drinking is 7.5%ABV and is 230cals each. I'm not going to remove something I enjoy from my diet. Better to just moderate it.0
-
I've had the same problem because I really enjoy beer. I've found that Bud 55 is tasty, gets me that beer taste with only 55 calories. It has less alcohol content that other beers, but that helps with the calorie counting0
-
The lastest issue of Consumer Reports rates craft beers.
I just came back from vacation, and I had about 7-10 beers over the 2 weeks. I ate clean otherwise and exercised. I lost 4 pounds. The month before, I had only 1-2 beers total, and the scales did not budge. Coincidence? Hmmm....0 -
Drink some nice craft beers. What is the point of drinking crap "lite" beer? It has no taste and talk about a waste of calories. Red wine is low in calories but really alcohol calories are pretty much empty calories. It is all about moderation. You can easily eat well and have a decent beer or two in the same day. Just don't do it every day. ;D I'm a beer snob though. I'd rather drink to really good beers higher in calorie than drink horse piss that is know as "american style ale".0

I am Scottish so I would say drink whisky!!!0
-
Labatt Blue Light Lime - just make sure it fits into your daily plan and it's all good!0
-
Amstel Light...95 cal....delicious. I drink beer every other day, if not some days back to back with no signifcant hinderance.0
-
I drink beer regularly...it is on my diet. I've lost nearly 40 Lbs and counting doing so. Just fit it in. Also, drink what you like to drink...drinking **** beer isn't worth it..might as well just have an ice tea or something if you're going to drink these ultra light and light piss beers.0
-
I drink Kronenbourg, Stella, Amstal, Desperados or any high % ale. I don't care0

THIS!
Personally, I enjoy dark beers - I enjoy the taste and aroma, much like wine. If it tastes like water, then I might as well save the calories and drink water! I don't drink one every day and when I do, I plan for it and work it into my calories, usually by adding an extra run or a spin class.0 -
Quality > Quantity.0

only makes you fat and stupid if you don't know your limitations0

piss beers....lol0
-
Nice to see I'm not the only one who likes beer even though we're trying to keep fit. I agree with drinking what I want. Might as well make it a good beer and something I'm going to enjoy right? I'll just factor it into my food log I have to limit it to two however. Once I get past two, my will power goes down and I head for the peanuts and popcorn. Yap, drink, and munch. Yap, drink and munch. Then before I know it, there goes two more beers! Thanks for all your input everyone. Is it the weekend yet?0

Your profile says you live in Colorado...craft beer mecca! Consult with your local microbreweries about any lighter styles they are brewing. Just include the calories in your daily count. So much more flavor in craft beer than anything mass produced!0
-
I drink beer - but not the commercially bottled kind. I search out local micro breweries and enjoy their hand crafted beers which are made from locally sourced grains, malt and local water.
I live in Burton on Trent, England which is the home of beer. Marstons Pedigree is a great beer but has additives. The local microbreweries scattered around here produce some wonderful beers with weird names - "Stairway to Heaven" "Old Tom" "Piddle-in-the-Hole" and "Catzenpizz"
I love them, have a couple now and again and wouldn't dream of counting the calories.
If I cant find a local brew (such as when I'm away, I will drink Guinness - dark, cold, bitter and delicious to the last drop.0 -
While I do agree that life is too short to drink crap beer... I save my good beer drinking for the weekends and celebrations for doing stuff around the house. Happy hour after work with the guys I go with Miller Lite or Coors Light as they are the lowest calorie wise per ounce.
Edit: "... lowest calorie wise per ounce." when I did my research.0 -
I would have the beer I really wanted if I was going to have some. Why drink a beer that you aren't going to enjoy??
^ This. Just log it, and exercise it out, if necessary ...
Remember, this isn't a diet - because they are unsustainable . This is a change of habits for life. So it's much more about moderation rather than denial ...0
