Coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil. Avocados, nuts, cheese, butter. Flaxseed meal.
Fat found in fish, meat, chicken, pork. It's all good.
Just don't eat the crap like margarine or Crisco stuff.

    Bacon is goooooodd! :-)

All of this! I eat high-fat. Eggs are another great option. I eat bacon & eggs A LOT. I make pork ribs at least once a week. I also snack on unsweetened toasted coconut flakes.

I have bacon every day. My fats are set at 45%.

Only bad thing about bacon is the high salt. But having 2-4 slices a day isn't going to make much difference.

I also eat eggs, cheese, avocado, and almonds every day.

Just stay within your calories and it's all good (except trans fats - those are the only ones I avoid). Trans fats are in many processed baked goods.
  • Ah thanks guys I was just worried I had been eating the wrong stuff... So everything I've been eating is ok? My bacon is all fresh. Are fresh sausages ok does anyone know? Sorry I'm sort of new to all the low carb high fat been doing it a few wakes
  • By pork rinds do you mean pork scratching? Hehe

Here's the thing. S o m e people are going to tell you not to eat saturated fats. But if you are doing low carb, you need to eat fats....because ....uh...only one other choice - protein.

The unsaturated fats (mostly the vegetable and tree fruit/nut sourced fats) help your lipid profile, but unless you have a genetic reason to avoid animal fats, then go for all of them...butter, bacon, duck fat, beef, eggs (the Whole Egg) etc.

Saturated fat got a bad rap in the 80s. If you research the outcomes of the research, you'll find it was unwarranted.

Thanks a lot dude I have been doing a lot of google reading since I started a few wks ago. Been following jimmy Moore so I know I need to eat lots of fat I've been playing around with the amounts of fat to protein trying to work out what's good for me. So all meat is ok. And strawberries I like eat with full cream that's fine is it?

If weight loss is your goal, then all you have to worry about is calorie intake. Full cream is fine - and yummy. You have to find your own place in the world. Tune out all the voices that tell you "Don't eat this or that."

Just do you. Stay within your calorie goal and enjoy your foods. All the foods.

Processed meats such as bacon and sausage have a high association with disease. There is much debate about saturated fats, but the medical recommendation is to eat more unsaturated than saturated.

I'm scared to eat that way because I have high cholesterol, but the traditional low fat diet is just not getting the results I want!!!! I think I am going to try and see a dietician.

    Hi

I heartily recommend reading www.marksdailyapple.com for all your low-carb, high-fat needs.

Tons of recipes, advice on diet and fitness, and he regularly debunks the half-assed, so-called research that scares the hell out of people and makes them believe fat is the Devil.

    Best of luck!

A high-fat diet has been proven to lower cholesterol - you have to make sure it's the right kind of fat and cut out carbs/processed foods/refined sugars.

Also, don't forget our bodies actually MAKE cholesterol (both 'good' and 'bad'). They wouldn't do that if there wasn't a need for it.

A lot of these 'everybody knows ... is bad for you' myths have come from bad science or one study that has never been correlated, but somehow they've got into the media and have become ingrained in how we live our lives.

Coconut oil is great for ketosis, but the main thing you want to look for is is a good Omega 3 to Omega 6 ratio. For that, you probably want grass-fed beef. Bacon is a wonderful ratio of protein to fat to carbs, but the types of fat are not preferable. Bacon is better for you than a donut, but not as good for you as grass-fed beef liver. Salmon has a not-awesome protein to fat ratio, but it's extremely high in O3 fat to O6 fat. Salmon fried up in Kerrygold butter is like, a perfect Keto meal. Throw in some boiled broccoli and cauliflower with moar Kerrygold on it and you're golden.

Not quite true. Trans and partially hydrogenated fats are awful for you, and many vegetable and seed oils aren't good for you either (not only do they have insanely high amounts of Omega-6 compared to Omega-3, but polyunsaturated fatty acids in general, which veggie and seed oils consist primarily of, oxidize easily with heat, causing free radicals that have been known to wreck havoc on the body - it's why your Omega-3 supplements should be stored in the fridge and have a short shelf life).

You don't need a low fat diet, you just need to eat the right types of fat. Unsaturated fats lower your LDL (sometimes referred to as bad cholesterol because it can clog arteries) and raise your HDL (referred to as good fat because it cleans out the clogs in arteries).

Get most of your fats from plants - olive oil, nuts, nut butters, avocado, seeds, etc.
