Anybody new to P90X?

I am in my second week of the Lean program and today was the 2nd time for YogaX. You certainly don't burn 600 calories doing yoga. I wear a HR monitor for all of my workouts and it said I burned 235 today. I think the Yoga is hard for beginners who have never done yoga. I am not new to exercising, I instructed classes for 17 years so I know pretty much how to modify everything, so I am liking the program pretty well. I am not trying to lose weight just maintain. I am always finding myself under my calories for the day by quite a bit. I just can't eat that much. Most workouts I am burning around 450 calories according to my watch so the food index adds that on to the regular 1200 calories they say I should eat if I was not working out. I find I can't eat as much as they are saying. I am not losing any weight, which is ok but I thought I would be losing weight if I am working out this hard everyday.
Can you substitute the Stretch X for the Yoga?0 -
If you have bad knees can you do this? My brother swears this is not a good program for me since I am overweight and out of shape.(but I keep seeing so many different people posting about it) I also have bad knees, I did major damage to them in highschool playing volleyball. Also is there a place to go to test out this set? My hubby has been out of work for 18 months so money is super tight.0

Bopper, if you can't reach 600 calories with the workout, then you need to subtract the difference from your calorie total. That's where a lot of people get into trouble.0

almost done my 4th week of lean!!
How do you like Lean version?
I'm starting on Monday and thinking of going with Classic.0 -
I'm always under 1200 calories for the day. The more you weigh the more you will burn. The less you weigh the less you will burn right?0

I did P90x for 1 week just to sample it and I liked it but didn't stick to it because i don't workout in July and August (call me weird) but since it's September I started back up I switched the schedule up because I don't like working out 6 days a week I am also not fond of Yoga so I nixed that dvd. I am usually a gym rat but due to my schedule it's hard to get in the gym right now so DVD's are my best option I own Insanity and P90x I prefer P90x cause I get to lift weights (which I love) and don't do as much cardio. Insanity was cool murdered my knees but still got the job done. Didn't lose weight but gained more endurance.
Since starting P90x my last week will be in December 2 days before my 5k Bridge Run.
My Kenpo disc didn't work today and instead of not working out I did Cardio X which I never did before I liked it and liked it even more that it was 45 minutes. Don't know how many calories I am burning since my dog ate my chest strap so I am low balling my calories burned. I am eating 1800 calories and super nervous that i will gain. I will just watch it over the next couple weeks. I will say that eating 1800 and hitting complete diary and when it says the same weight I get nervous but like I said I will wait it out.
Tomorrow is my rest day and Saturday will be Legs and Back- I enjoy working my legs and back then Sunday will be my next day of rest Monday starts it all over again.0 -
crazybxrmom, knee problems can be an issue with P90X. At the very least you should skip the PlyoX workout because it involves a lot of jumping. KenpoX requires a lot of kicks so that may or may not be a problem too.
crazybxrmom, I create my own exercises and categorize the workouts as “cardio” and put in my calories burned from my heart monitor. The actual calories burned will vary from person to person.
Everyone is also welcome to look me up at teambeachbody.com as superdave123. :-)
Thanks for your response, I think, I am gonna borrow a few of the discs from a friend, before I invest in a purchase.0 -
Last week I ate way under my amount and I didn't loose not 1 lbs even though I did P90X workouts for one hour a day x6 days straight! I say...get your calories in (especially if you are working out) otherwise your body may hold onto them...at least that's what 'they' say and what I believe I experienced last week0

aaaaag morning  i am not a morning person :frown: but with 2 nights thurs ,fri and 1 full day of football - tailgating no time for evening work out soooooo need to push play in the morning ............ back n biceps this morning :drinker:0

done !!! now that in finished thinking its better then any Kolache the peeps have0

In the beginning, the body is not used to the required high calorie goal so waiting a few days for the metabolism to catch up is not a bad idea. Also, most people get really sore the first week and muscle inflammation can cause some temporary water weight gain. But knowing your intensity is the most significant factor for weight loss. that is why a heart rate monitor that can track calories burned is very useful!0

Great advice and thoughts on nutrition. You are right on superdave about the importance of a HRM and the nutrition plan. I lost less than 10 pounds on Round 1, due to not following the nutrition plan and possibly eating too much protein. It is one of the frustrating things about the program. I do think that P-90X is awesome, but not enough is paid to the weight loss aspect, especially the adjustment of your daily total for your exercise. I got that from the boards.0

I am excited to start the workout program tomorrow morning. My question for Dave is this, I am doing my workout Mon, Wed, and Fri in the morning before my kids are awake (hopefully) so I won't be eating breakfast until after the workout. I know I should have something before I do these workouts though. I don't want it to be much because I can't workout very well with much in my stomac either. So what would be a good, super fast snack to eat before I start my morning routines? I was thinking a healthy muffin or banana or a homemade granola bar. Any other suggestions?0
-
Most people just eat a banana before the workout. Nothing heavy. My husband and I do P90X and Insanity in the morning as well (5am). Most mornings I'm fine without anything beforehand.
After the workout I drink BSN protein shake for recovery, hit the shower, and then go to work.0 -
For the morning, liquids is the best way to go. I've tried whey protein with a half banana, but it messese with my stomach. I have one scoop of P90X Recovery drink and it digests fast and works perfect.0

ok so the bonus disks bud light x and tailgate x are done for this week back to pushing play :drinker:0

Just ordered the P90X dvds - can't wait to give it a shot!
I don't have the chin-up bar or the resistance bands yet though. Can I start P90X without them or do I need them from the start?0 -

Today was day 1. I survived!!! Not only did I survive but I really enjoyed it!!! It was great! However, I was wondering if it were possible to do the ab ripper at another time during the day? I felt like i was so wiped out at the end of chest and back I didn't feel like I could give as much during the ab ripper, I was just done. I was thinking that if I did it fresh (maybe in the morning) and then did my daily workout in the afternoon that I would be able to put more into it.
I was starting to feel like I was going to throw up during it. What are your thoughts and what do you do?
Also I do have a recovery drink and as soon as I drank it, I stopped feeling sick.0 -

Week 3 day 1 phase 1 chest and back done- didn't do ab ripper x tonight I'm beat! Can't wait to get my HRM hopefully tomorrow I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. Can't wait to see how many calories I am burning. As of right now I just say 220-300 calories per workout. I also bought me some ankle weights for my cardio days to give me a bit more intensity.0

Absolutely! I know many people who do that with great results. In fact, I do Abs after my cardio because my resistance days take much longer to finish. Also, NO need for the recovery drink after only doing abs.
Day one is killer! I almost got sick with my first round too so don't worry about it. The first week takes some getting used to but the body will soon adapt!0 -
I really like Ab Ripper X. I am in week 4 of the recovery week in the Lean Phase and Core Synergistics wiped me out today! I don't feel like it is "recovery" but I press pause when I need to. I haven't lost any weight yet, but that really isn't my goal, I just thought I might drop a few pounds by now. I am eating enough and good food so I keep on keepin on........0

Day 2 Plyometics = Success!!!0
-
I am 52 years old and at least 50 lbs over weight. I did P90X last winter to get ready to hike Philmont 14 days of camping and hiking with the boy scouts. Doing P90X I lost some weight about 10 lbs, I expected more. I ate what I wanted. I brought my best and did forget the rest. If I hadn't done P90X my knees would have never made the hike. I would recommend this to anyone in almost any condition. You have to do what Tony says bring your best and forget the rest. It will make a huge difference in how you and your knees feel. By the end of week 2 great strides will be seen. Don't give up. If I can get through it anyone can. I am now training for a half marathon.0

Day 2 Plyometics = Success!!!
Today was also my day 2 success. I am feeling a bit sore from day 1 workout, but feel ready to go for tommorow.
I am trying to get the nutrition portion to work out for me....right now about 2300-2400 cal per day. I have been at about a 50/50 ratio of carb to protien. Is this going to work out? I only need to loose about 7 or 8 ibs., as I am looking more to gain more endurance and strength. Any advice from those more experienced would be welcome.0 -
how hard is it & what kinda workouts. how long till u saw results0
-
It's rather advanced, but there is a "Lean" program with it that is easier.0
