Amazing post! Me? I analyze everyone else’s stuff! Very effective for not working on my stuff! Hummmmm…..what to do now? I think I will e-mail a friend for an update……you know, about their stuff!
This!! I use to do this!! Fix everyone else, and I was good at it, most of the time. My own issues got buried and ignored until they kinda exploded all over me, that brought on depression and eating.. lots of both.
I'm 48 and just now beginning to understand that "happy" is my own decision despite my circumstances, and happy is also fleeting. Right now I'm happier than I've been in many many years, and it's because I finally forced myself to feel my own misery and then move past it, and get God into my life.
However I still have to yank myself out of hiding in books or even watching stupid Netflix to keep from thinking and facing stuff. lol0 -
I procrastinate.
Like now, I should be finding a way to come up with extra money since I destroyed my engine, but instead I have cooked dinner for my parents, babysat my grandson, babysat neices and nephew, played mindless games on my phone, searched out new shows to watch OnDemand or Netflix, & the list goes on... I guess it is good that my PS3 broke or I would have some serious game hours logged!
Anyway, thank you for this post. Just what I needed to evaluate where my current path is taking me. :flowerforyou:0 -
Good read, OP! I would say I overcompensate by overachieving. The more misery, the more I take on. If my house is in perfect order, my kids are busy, and I'm completely neck deep in sports, clubs, recipes, and pinterest projects, then I must be happy, right?! Right? Perfection = happiness, right?!
Oh, and I make pie. Banana cream is my specialty.0 -

Cookies, candy, chocolate, and cake
I love these. It's funny because I didn't have an issue with cookies, candy, and cake until after I lost 25 pounds. I lost 25 pounds, I made my regular holiday treats (cookies, bars, chocolate covered pretzels), I gained 10 pounts in 2 weeks.
For me it's not about misery, though, it's about any imbalance in my life. I haven't dealt with depression since I was in my early 20's, but I have had stress take over during periods of time, which just throws everything out of balance. I've been in the process of moving into my house for 4 months now, the turmoil has me all out of sorts.0 -

Having control over my calories definitely makes me feel better about lacking control with everything else. I realise that's quite a sad thing to admit. A lot of people have told me, "Urgh, why do you bother?! It's such a waste when you could be living a normal life without worrying!" - It just helps somehow.0

Yeah, since I forced myself to stop purchasing beauty products (I haven't for about three weeks, and for me that's a lot) until I finish my current ones, I have been much "better" about my logging here, and my weight loss sped up. I think that's a good sign, but at the same time I really want to avoid developing new quirks :P0 -

Music is my first, cosmetics my 2nd and clothes/shoes my third. I'm currently going through a stack of 14 CDs I bought yesterday after a 120 hour pay period....

This is good. I have a bit of a shopping problem too. I love shopping, tasty food. It's just natural...there is lonliness, emptiness and boringness in life... these things assuage those feelings. You are very ambitious. Good !0 -

I hear ya, OP. I hate saying "I understand" because I cannot possibly completely know everything about what another person experiences but I sympathize. I got to 338lbs by not handling my quirks.

I've used games like Farmville. I've accumulated stuff for an idea or project - and information - with little attempt at the projects.
I have a friend that "collects" music and movies - he has thousands on thousands.
Another older friend collected cross stitch patterns - she had boxes and boxes of them - thousands more than she could ever do.
It's easy to obsess. Stopping yourself is hard. I usually hit some epiphany moment where I wake up and realize how I'm wasting resources/time and then I'm over it. But until the epiphany moment, it's just like an addiction.
edited for this: HAHAHAHA - after thinking about it - it hit me like a flying brick to the head. I cope with planning. I will plan things to the tiniest detail to soothe myself. I may never carry out the plan - but I will make one. I get agitated if I am unable to make a plan - even though the plan may not be possible. I have pages and pages of lists laying around sometimes because of this.0 -

Hey, I can relate to what you said. I made some bad choices too: left my country and chose a university that I later hated. So I took refuge in reading, got my room full of books, all sort of books. Now I've left university, moved back to my country, lost some of the weight I gained and I'm trying to rebuild my life again.0

Good post! I get obsessed with a new hobby when my life is falling apart. Recently Krav Maga, before that writing, painting, running... it goes on and on. It's my way of hiding until everything works itself out.
