i awkwardly say ...y yy yoou too0

"Thank you! I have mace and I'm not afraid to use it!"0

I generally turn into a stuttering ball of awkwardness, and run away, mumbling. Luckily, I don't have it happen very often.0
-
I get very, very embarrassed and it shows
I say thank you and try to continue on my way as quickly as possible.

WHOA! WAIT! WHAT?!? I'm Way too shy to give a receive compliments out in the open like that. Just laying it out there? No way.
I will normally just follow the person home. I'll tape my compliment along with a headless nude photo of myself to a brick and throw it thru the bedroom window while they sleep!
Ohhhhh! That was YOU! You shouldv'e rung the bell! I'd have made you a cup of tea :laugh:0 -
Not to be pompous but I get compliments daily from random men and women. Last week a very good looking woman was jogging past me on my walk to work and she told me "wow you look stunning this morning". feelsgoodman.jpg
Lol anyway I say thank you and if they're attractive, too, I'll reciprocate. I love compliments. :-)0 -
a real compliment I can handle off a stranger! I just reply with an 'aw thank you!' but a rude compliment I just kind of stare at them0
-
I like to compliment women and vice versa. In a world that tries to make women feel bad about themselves, I like to make a point of telling women how wonderful and beautiful they are :flowerforyou:0
-
Random compliments are both gratifying and creepy at the same time.
Was obese most of my adult life. So, now that I get compliments on my physique is gratifying. But, I am relatively shy so it creeps me out at the same time.
I will say that hearing the occasional complement is way better than some of the nasty comments that have been directed at me when I was wearing 3x + sized clothing! I laughed off a lot but when people throw out things like how much shade I could provide on a sunny day. It hurt! I would much prefer some lady telling during a run that I have nice calves!0 -
Some random woman stopped me the other day to tell me she really loved my dress. I was like :flowerforyou: and I felt good for the rest of the day.
The rest of the time I just get hit on by old men at the grocery store. It seems like the grosser I look, the higher % of a chance some retiree will try to get my number. Nothing against the elderly though, but I'm only 33.
Maybe I need to step up my game a little.0 -
I normally just say "thank you" and smile at them. I like receiving compliments.0
-
I usually just smile and say thank you, although I am not good at taking compliments from my loved ones, strangers saying something nice gives me less issues lol
I did recently get three marriage proposals on a night out, are they compliments? lol
If I am honest I get stared at more than complimented, which is amusing and sometimes a bit disconcerting0 -
Cannot recall a time that a random compliment like that has happened in person but I hope I'd be on the ball enough to be gracious about it.0
-
I appreciate it when someone compliments me.....of course, I turn beat red and then follow it with a "Thank You". It's not creepy, it's kind.0
-
I say thank you and generally am not creeped out. I get approached a lot about my hair, it's auburn and almost to my butt and people just want to touch it! :laugh:0
-
I try my best to look mean and unapproachable when I'm out...but if someone still feels the need to complement me I just say thanks.0
-
I have received them before and I just smile and say thank you... I have also given them before, but not as often as I have thought about giving them... I always feel like I will been seen as a creeper or hitting on them... so I usually keep it to myself and move on with my day...
but then I wonder what if a complement at that moment in time is exactly what that person needed and since I didn't give them the complement their entire day or week or whatever was not the same as if I would have given the complement.... the I rabbit trail in my thoughts and wonder about other dimensions and alternate universes and realities... LOL0 -
There are a lot of very attractive women on this site, and you all are a particularly chatty group too, so this seems like as good a place as any to ask this question. I am quite accustom to giving and receiving complements online with people I do not know but not strangers in the real world. I am not talking about cat calls on the street or men trying to pick you up in the bar, I mean going about your business at the grocery store and some random guy comes up and compliments you (not hey, baby nice *kitten* but more genuine compliment) . How do you handle it? Is it just a thank you, or do you try to compliment back? Does it creep you out, flatter you, maybe a little bit of both?
I once had a guy appear out of nowhere behind me at the grocery store and tell me that he wasn't "a stalker or anything," but that I had a "very pretty shape."
I wasn't sure if I was flattered or creeped out. lol But he didn't follow me or anything.
More often, people just compliment my hair. Natural curls are a bit of an anomaly, so people notice -- men AND women -- and a lot of women will compliment my clothes and shoes.0 -
I smile and say thank you. Or if it's a really good compliment, I follow them out to the parking lot and get in their windowless van with them.0
-
Well, when you compliment someone else, what do you expect/appreciate them to say in return?
Usually just an honest and sincere "thank you" will suffice. I usually let them know that I really appreciate it and that it was very kind of them to say, but all that's necessary is a thank you. If someone comes up and compliments me, I want to be sure that they know just how much that comment meant to me, because I might not get complimented a lot, but every comment I've gotten has been greatly appreciated.0 -
I smile and say "Thanks!"
that's it.
otherwise it turns into a LONG convo about fitness and/or they start hitting on me LOL0 -
You have to look at the circumstance and decide what you are comfortable with...i was happy with a few girls checking me out at the grocery...(that is my story because the other explanation would be that they were laughing at me) but i am the guy that still holds doors and offers to help people....few strangers in my world.,.0

If it's not attached to a brick, it doesn't count.0 -
I smile and say thank you! I take them as intended and I am flattered. :happy:0

Hey Tricia, nice butt!0

This is such an interesting post. There are a few ladies at my job who dresses very well. And If I run into them, and say, Hey "looking sharp!" or nice dress or something, women always the next day get weirded out.
Meanwhile a few days ago, these were the same women, when I buy a new suit or do something different appearance wise, give out compliments and I take it, and keep it moving.
I noticed that this is exclusive to the workplace, because while I'm at my university, or I'm out and about, women are not as touchy and squirmish about a compliment.
I've personally just stopped giving out compliments...at work. Some women (not all) are way too sensitive.0 -
I rarely get compliments from people on the street. But I give them a lot. Most people says thanks and move on.0
-
The only one I get from strangers is "I like your hat." :bigsmile:0

Don't be so careless! Make sure they have candy in the van first.0 -

I am one of those guys who will do just that and be on my way...offer a compliment because it is deserved. No, I am not trying to hit on or pick up the lady, just trying to offer a compliment. There has been a time or two where I had to really explain myself to the person because at times I find people have a very defensive wall up...it is a trend in our society because of a few creepy people out there that has made it difficult for all of us to interact. I often try to look for some body language that will tell me if my action will be well received prior to speaking.
I have also made compliments to men, and children. I will stress that I always choose my words wisely. I DO NOT want to be that creepy person. However, people deserve to be complimented, and I will not let the misfortunes of society dictate how I should act when I am acting out of pure kindness and respect.
It's called being me, and I choose to walk with a smile. Smiles are contagious and I try hard to make it happen.0
