I'm sure this subject has come up before, but i need to address my problem. A week before my TOM i get the most insatiable hunger, i wouldn't mind if i craved all the yummy healthy food there is out there but NOOOOO i crave all things cakey, milk chocolatey, sweet and surgery! i never seem to feel full. its terrible. i try to keep myself busy, even extra time in the gym but i usually always cave in and have naughty treats. Am i on my own here or does anyt#one else feel like this? and what do you do? xxx

I know this may sound stupid. I had the same problem. For me....the craving problem stopped since taking BC0

I don't have this problem, but can you just leave some calories for some reasonably portioned treats at the end of the day (or whenever the cravings strike)? I love the Ghirardelli chocolate squares (various flavours... dark chocolate with sea salt caramel are probably my favourite); you can have one, satisfy the sweet tooth, but you're only 70 calories down.
Just a thought - there's no reason you have to completely deny yourself!0 -
This is going to sound rude, and it probably is...
You're 29, is this the first time this had happen to you?
Adjust your day/week as you go.
You're a grown adult, I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT!1 -

More or less this.
You've had decades of menstruating. You know your body. It's frustrating when it feels like you're trying to fight it (eat healthy, etc) but you don't need to feel helpless and confused. This is YOUR body, your friend, your companion, your cranky driver when you're bleeding. Don't react to it as if it's a foreign or unknown thing.
Adjust your eating. Give yourself a free day - or two - and drink more water. Don't weigh yourself during your period, water weight is real and it will happen. Relax. It's your body, it will be okay.2 -

Once or twice.
I've found strength training + plenty of protein helps with those cravings, but I also make room for some treats.0 -
Try a low-sugar, reduced carb eating plan for 1.5 weeks before scheduled TOM. Really helps me.1

Yes this is happening right NOW with me. It happens every 14-16 days for me! So I have had LOTS of experience at eating way too much. I do try to counteract it with lots of activity, water and just accepting that I will have pig out days because no matter how much food I've actually had, there's always room for crap at this time. Probably why I'm still 10-15 lbs away from goal. I try to not keep too many of these foods I can't control around me...esp during PMS/period. IF you have to have something sweet...go out and buy an individual portion, unless you do have the willpower to control yourself...I do not. Good luck!1

Hold off until the end of the day and really savor a small piece of chocolate, or a well measured frozen yogurt with fruit. Eat foods that reduce swelling (it'll help with some unpleasant feelings!), and just leave yourself 150 calories at the end of the day for a treat.
Do what everyone else has said and drink lots of water!0 -
I like deep fried anything during that time
If you deep fried a tennis shoe, and handed me some ranch, I'd hit that
So, what i do is give myself a day where I'm all OM NOM NOM
then i pick up heavy things, and put them back down

I usually eat kettle corn, have chocolate slim fast for the chocolate cravings and for the salty I have hummus and triscuits.....0

I started getting TOM at age 11 and know all about the horrendous cravings for the worst possible foods, all I wanted was fast food, chocolate bars, cheesecake and lots of pop, that junk food cycle lasted from age 11 to early 20s. I'm now 25 and since I've given up sugary sodas and only treat myself in moderation I find that when I do get the TOM urge to binge and actually do satisfy those cravings I no longer feel satisfied, I usually feel even more sluggish so now I go for lots of water, a granola bar, light popcorn.0

I get awful cravings too, anything sweet or salty. If I pay attention I just leave hard candy like butterscotch in my mouth as opposed to having a chocolate bar. It also really helps not having chips at home. I just end up eating a hard boiled egg with enough salt to satisfy me, or heat up some frozen corn kernels and sprinkle salt on it and it eat 1 kernel at a time.0

Wow I was so confused. I thought you were talking about TOM from Myspace.4

Edit: Dammit. too late.3 -
I'll have chocolate protein shakes to help with my chocolate craving, fruits for my junky/sugar-y craving, salted almonds for my salty cravings, and burn loads and loads of extra calories so I can eat more!0
