I love Victoria secrets.. I like the bras there.. they are great quality and last a very long time (they should for the money! ). but also they have girls that are good at what they do and fit you.. and you can try on dozens of different ones.. plus.. they write it down for you on a card.. so next time if you want the same one.. you just hand them the card and they get them for you.. nice..
I've heard they only carry up to a certain size in the store though but will order larger sizes special for you. I've heard from other girls who need larger sizes who say they're SOL when it comes to V.S. :ohwell:0 -
Have you tried Penningtons or Additional Elle? Their bras are cute!0
-
I got some bras from Additionelle on the last trip to visit my family. While I like them, and they do fit, they're not as supportive as I'd like. I'm presently wearing 44DDD, though not in all brands. I also have a couple of Goddess brands that I love.
None of them have high reaching underwires, or even really high sides.
My thought is if the underwires are poking you, there's something amiss in the size you're wearing.
Edited because 44 somehow came out as 460 -
I second www.herroom.com . They have a questionnaire here: http://www.herroom.com/know-your-breasts/Questions.aspx where you can pick out which characteristics most closely match you & they will give you bra suggestions. I like the calculator at http://www.sophisticatedpair.com/bracalculator.htm to give a pretty accurate size. They also have a good number of bras on sale at any given time & I've never had a problem returning a bra there.
Victoria's Secret does not carry larger band sizes or larger cup sizes. Do not go to Victoria's Secret for bras. Their measuring system is flawed & will give you a bra that does not fit you correctly.0 -
I'm A 36DDD,..and as I'm losing weight the band is now on the tightest hook(yay!)...but finding a 34DDD UGH,,however Fruit of the Loom,makes a Very comfy bra,not to ugly...plain cotton/stretchy,and soft!,.(affordable as well!).not that itchy nylon junk...and no high wire by armpit!!~.happy shopping!0
-
Current bra type (Look how high the underwire would go, right under your armpit!!
Is that a bra, or are you expecting an assassination attempt? (Hah, a little Bill Murray in Meatballs humor)
I found a brand that I love that's not too expensive and offers lots of styles and consistent sizing: Vanity Fair. I don't like bras with the seam right across the middle or that make my boobs look like torpedos, and not too low-cut or there will be spillage. Since VF is consistent in sizing I can buy online and get great deals. I haven't had a stabber ever that I can remember, but have with other brands.0 -
I lost from size 44ii to current 38/40DD .. I mostly buy
Olga's .. which initially I thought wouldn't work but
no wire stabbing with them. Sorry I don't have
experience yet elsewhere.0 -
Sounds like you possibly might need a different size. Maidenform pressure free bras have a reallly soft underwire. It literally feels like your breasts are in a cloud.

freya are the only bras I wear now, super sexy too0

I wear what ever is comfortable. But since losing weight...I was a C and am now probably an A.
I've lost inches too as well.0 -

Yes, this!!! A million times this!!!
I could'nt remember the name of the website, but going there was the catalyst to finding the proper size for me.0 -
Since i'm big i've got big breast (usually go hand in hand but not always) and with big breasts comes big bra's. I find big bras go all the way up to your arm pits and are consistently stabbing me there! anyone else have this problem? that and my bra (though i got professionally sized) like seems to not sit right on me. Bra's are annoying!! we ladies know this. now for those who lost weight, or enough weight to go down to a smaller bra size where the underwire gets smaller too (and not be stabbingyour armpits anymore) does this problem nearly go away? I feel like once i lose all my weight i will have said miracle bra's !
Current bra type (Look how high the underwire would go, right under your armpit!!
slimmer girls bra (see all that armpit room! i could move my arms around without feeling the discomfort of the bra stabbing me!):
sorry boys, nothing but breasts here for you :]
and girls, let me know! in particularily if you've noticed this too before and after weight loss.
Yeah unfortunately when you're a big cup size you're also going to have to have a bigger elastic band. It should get better once you've lost weight.
I'm a D cup..not too big, and my bras don't stab me. You need a different brand or a different person to do your professional fitting.0 -

THIS!!!!
I can only buy panties there. Their bras have no support.
I get Vanity Faire from Macy's along with a professional fitting.
Some of the brands recommended in this thread look good too.0 -

Vanity Faire is my favorite brand too. Comfortable, supportive, not too expensive, and the wires don't stab you.0 -
same here. and i have heard fredericks are great too!!0

30FF and no stabbing in the armpit here....sounds like you are wearing the wrong size. Most women are wearing a cup size which is too small for them, may be worth getting properly fitted. If you're in the UK, I recommend Bravissimo!0

this - i'm a 30HH and i had the same problem - and went to bravisimo - now i have a wonderfully fit bra and no stabbing with the underwire and they are nice bras and not to high on the side and no boobs popping out of the top of the bra either!0 -
bras all seem to fit differenly- you may be a 46d in one style and something completely different in another
my questions for you:
do your bras "ride up" in back (tend to creep up during the day)?
if so try a smaller back size (try 44 for example) but go up a cup size (cup size is the difference between your ribcage measurement and your fullest part of your breast, thus if you lower the ribcage measurement from 46 to 44, the letter also gets "smaller"- so when you go down in number, you may have to go up in letter
-have you tried different styles?
some fuller cups have higher wires. Try a balconette or demi if you can find one
figleaves and herroom are great resources which ship internationally as is JC Penneys
- how else does your bra fit. Is the only issue the armpit wires? then it could just be that style of bra or that you are short torsod or something - but seriously look around, there are a lot of bras out there (though I appreciate that your choice is more limited than others)
btw- the women that seem to have it the worst are those with a large number and small cup- my colleague wheres a 42A - that is a real challenge to find!0 -
That's how thy are supposed to fit - the cup should go around your side and into your armpit, but it shouldn't be stabbing you. The bottom pic doesn't fit right but it's fine since she has really small boobs (not be because she is slimmer). And for the love of god please don't go to Victoria's Secret, get some good quality bras like Chantelle, Fantasie, Wacoal etc - I've found a lot of these to be very comfy.0

Exactly! I don't know why everyone thinks VS is the be all end all in lingerie - it is crappy quality, their bras stretch out quickly and don't last, AND they vanity size and don't fit properly! My cousin worked there while she was in school and she said they were never even taught how to fit, so she would just measure people and guess what size that made them, tried to fit them into the limited sizes they carried.0 -

I noticed this. I used to buy their bras when I was thin. They all stretched/wore out really fast. The only ones I really liked were their athletic crossback bras, and those stretched out too.0 -
I'm sure someone must have said something already, but I didn't read the responses...
But even if the side is high on the bra, they should NOT be stabbing you or causing discomfort UNLESS you are wearing the wrong size (which many of us do unless we have a real professional bra fitting, as opposed to that joke of a fitting VS will put you through).
I used to have issues similar to this, but now that I wear the proper size (which is smaller band and bigger cup than I was wearing before) I haven't run into anything like this.
That's my suggestion before you run out and buy new ones. I am sure that the others have posted some great brands for you to try, but I would simply suggest having a professional fitting done and make sure you are wearing the correct size first. :flowerforyou:
ETA: Also shop at a store that allows you to try them on first. Some bras just fit other ladies better, some bras will look awful on you, etc. even if they are the correct size. So don't buy them off the internet unless you already have tried on that style and size in a real store to see if it flatters you.0 -
It can be very annoying to find the right fitting bra. When they measure you for a bra fitting, they only measure under bust and over bust, but there are many other variables in our measurements that contribute to a good fitting bra (such as shoulder width and the closeness of the breasts, etc). Plus not all bra companies make bras the same size and fit. And even within the same company the fit can vary depending on the style of the bra. And different bras are made for different body types. So, it isn't enough just to get measured and think all bras in that size will fit you. My actual bra size is different from my measured size and it varies depending on the bra. I am small framed and small breasted, so yeah, these issues can influence us as well. I also find underwire to be a bit of a nuisance at times. Because I am small I generally need a bra that has cups that are closer together. For me most bras will have cups that are too far apart and can even end up with the cups under my armpits, instead of where my breasts actually are. But, it is a real challenge finding a good fit. I also use racer back or a clip on the back to make it racer back. I can't wear a bra that does not have racer back straps because they make the straps too wide set for my small shoulders and the straps constantly fall off my shoulders. I am evenly proportioned for my size, I am just a small sized person.0

A very good fitter doesn't actually even measure you - I've been a couple times and only recall actually being measured once, and the bras they have recommended have always fit amazingly well. Go to a lingerie boutique or someone experienced at Nordstrom and they will eyeball the correct size in a second!0 -

I drive a half an hour to go to a specialty lingerie shop. It's the only place that sells bras that potentially fit me. Although my size gets sold out quickly because they are the only place that sells it, so I have to wait till they get a new shipment in to be able to go in and try them on. I'm told that the smaller sizes 26-30 range are more variable in terms of how the designer makes them. It's more intricate work to make smaller sizes (in bras or any type of clothing), that's why a lot of designers don't make them or they charge more for the hours worked. Even thought they use less material, it's more work. It's actually easier to work with more material. We don't have Nordstrom where I am in Canada.0 -
a bra's support should ALL come from THE BAND. That's why we get stuck with wide bands--more tissue=more support. Make sure you're being sized right. For us larger busted ladies, the band should be as tight as is comfortable (I'm not sure this really exists--tight bands and comfort). The size should not be based off the "measure +4 or measure +5" system--referred to as "traditional" sizing, you wanna roll with "modern" sizing, which involves tightly measuring your under bust and rounding to the nearest even size, then bending over with a decent bra on measuring around the back and across the bust itself. The difference in inches=cup size. For example my under bust is 31--round to 32 that is my band size, then around my bust is 39, so we go 7 steps up...A, B, C, D, DD, DDD (E), DDDD (F). Yup...I'm a 32F.
Yes...I've been shoved into a 36DD buy a Vic's Secret rep...I even bought it--before I understood how modern sizing works. Yup, it's a "sister" size--and unsupportive, saggy baggy elephant sister size. I put on a 32F later, looked 10lbs lighter (because of the support for the girls!) and never looked back.
(apparently I've become a "proper sizing evangelist"--LOL.) It makes me crazy when people tell me "they've always been a certain cup or band size--no you haven't not unless you've never gained or lost as little 5lbs.
*sigh*
But yeah...wide bands are where we're at.0 -

You're SO right.0 -
A really good no-underwire bra would be good. I have DD's/DDD's (depends on the brand what size I am now). I normally wear playtex bras. They are great!0
-
this is the worst I can definitely relate especially if you're an avid runner. Mine used to be a lot bigger and were such a hindrance.
Honestly I would swear by a simple sports bra (we have Burlei here so something similar to that) THEN a crop top (like the one in my current pic) over the top of that and they are much more manageable.
I actually live in sports bras (the bra type) because I prefer smaller breasts.
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -
You women have got to stop talking about boobs, and bras, and . . . well, just stop it.
...said no man ever. lol0
