For me, myself, and I, "fat" came when I started wearing 'plus size' clothing. I am 5'4", and when I was 120, you could see hip bones, ribs, and vertebre. When I was 170 (obese, technically), I had a bangin' bod. Super hourglass. It all depends on personal perspective.

Well crap. I must be fat, I jiggle up top for sure.

Fat is, I think, a term based on personal views. There's not an 'official' view or measurement or ratio for fat, as far as I know. Overweight or Obese would be more technical terms, and thus definable.

BMI over 24,9 is fat (except for athletes).

Personally to me, it was when I could feel " Two stomachs " As I liked to call them, the fat rolls... Thats when I felt " fat "

Fat is when you go to haul *kitten*, you have to use a wheelbarrow and still make two trips. That is fat.

    Just saying….

In for "yo mama is so fat" jokes...

But seriously, while fat is somewhat relative it's not completely arbitrary. You're fat when your body fat percentage is above 25% for men or 32% for women. BMI is also a decent measurement if you're not an athlete.

It's all relative. Compared to the average american, I am thin. But I don't think in terms of the average american, I think in terms of my goals. And when compared to my goal physique, I am fat. Granted gaining fat is necessary to build muscle, and I will shed it when I cut in the spring. But never the less, I consider myself fat right now.

In other words, it's all a matter of opinion.

When you jump up in the air and get stuck.

When you sit on a quarter and George Washington's booger squeezes out.

When your blood type is Ragu.

When your belt size is "Equator".

When you step on the scale and it reads "One at a time, please".

This. I'm 5'3 and I consider myself fat when I'm above 140. If I had more muscle and less fat at that weight it would be a different story. Just as someone who carries their weight differently than me might look slender and fit at 150.
  • You know what i have never been able to understand is when a someone says "well she wasn't fat but she was chubby" to describe someone
Its like what in the world does that mean...????:noway:

Its all relative. People like different body shapes and sizes and think different things look good.

Before I lost the 60lbs, I was fat. Technically, by all calculators, scales and appearances, I still am fat. But having lost 60lbs and fitting into clothes in regular stores for the first time in decades, I feel pretty darn thin and good about myself. I still have 55lbs to go, but I don't feel fat any more.

If I can slap the leg and ride the wave in.

Ok...this made me laugh and laugh.

For me, I'm fat when my body fat percentage is too high or my clothes don't fit right.

This is definitely different for everyone. A lot of my friends are bigger than I am but I don't consider them fat. They look great how they are. They carry their weight well. They look like they belong at that weight. I consider myself fat because I am carrying excess fat/weight that shouldn't be there.

Definitely relative! I'm 5'4" and my *goal* weight is 170.

Considering all diff body types, heights, lean body mass and all that, i think:

BMI and BF% are a fair gauge of "fat".

Everyone has a different definition. But it really doesn't matter. It doesn't make you a terrible person because you consider yourself fat or other people do.

    1. Can you do the things you need to do physically (or do you have a plan to get there)
    2. Are you healthy (or working with your doctor to improve your health as needed?)
    3. Do you eat well (with lots of produce)?
    4. Do you get regular activity?

If so, great! You are on the path to longevity, no matter what your BMI is.

Do you have different standards for what you consider fat for yourself as opposed to others?

I still consider myself "fat" even though I'm now in normal sizes and really wouldn't look at someone else in this size and see them that way.
