Don't take it. Why are you taking it?

Why wouldn't you take it? Creatine is proven to work and is just about as dangerous as drinking protein powder.

There are some established side effects. Basically it lets you "push through" hard workouts, but it also can lead to overstressing muscles and injury because of that. So, I would just advise caution.

^ Ignore this, OP. As I'm sure you well know, creatine is one of the very few supplements with proven efficacy and few side effects.

I mix mine in water and choke it down before workouts.

^^yep. Plus there is nothing I have seen that have shown the side effects to be damaging to your health.

OMG - its not a steroid, not even close.

ETA: ok, I may have missed the sarcasm there...or at least I hope I did!

I literally scoop 5 grams, dump the powder in my mouth and chase it with water. Otherwise you can use warm water if you want it to mix better

Pretty much that. I also take it in my post-workout recovery shake.
  • OP, you could probably get by with less than 5 grams a day. I think 5 grams is recommended for a person of 200 lbs (I could be wrong).

    strong ignorance here

Yes please, for the love of god. Go read some medical journals that have done research on creatine. I don't remember what exact illness it's shown to have positive effect on but I believe it was either Parkinsons or Alzeihmers, definitely one of those two. Yes I'm sure I didn't spell either correctly. It's suppose to have positive effect on blood pressure as well. Aside from "pushing through reps / sets" it is also a good anti-catabolic supplement, which is good for anybody who's on a calorie deficit. These are all things you can read about. Do a search on PubMed or something. k, thx

For someone who is on a diet and lifts, will it have any beneficial effects or is it better to wait till i get closer to goal before I start taking it?

Ive heard it holds onto more water than lifting and not taking it? BS or some truth?

I see everyone talking about it in the powder form....are the pills not as good?

ETA - After a quick google search I think I found my answer. If nothing else the powder is way more affordable. Once I finish my bottle of pills this week I'll switch to powder & just add it to my post workout protein shake.

    take it now.

BTW studies seem to say that 90% of people are responders so it isn't EVERYONE. Also, you should make sure you are well hydrated and if you have any lower back pains (kidney area) be careful.

Cut/bulk/maintain - it has the same benefits.

You will hold onto more water but it is in the muscle and not 'bloat'.

As Chris says, make sure you stay hydrated.

Thanks for all the tips guys.

I've lowered my dose to 3 - 4 grams and started taking it daily, mixing it in with my protein shakes & yogurt. It actually gives the yogurt a really good texture, I'm liking it even more with the creatine mixed in!
  • Just started loading phase of 20 grams of creatine for 7 days. Then 5 grams daily until tub is empty.

Over here in UK The Protein Works do flavoured Creatine Berry Blitz or Green Apple spike both mix really well with like 100ml of water and taste divine.

Mine is in a "pre-workout mix" which thankfully mostly water soluble (mostly) - thus I use a Blender Bottle shaker. Then chuge it as fast as I can (not the best taste :P )

Can you elaborate on your last statement about lower back pains?

I put mine in with my morning coffee.

10-12 oz of hot liquid + creatine = complete dissolution.

eta: I'm using the unflavored variety. If using a fruit flavored, I'll mix it in with a similarly flavored herbal tea.
