I like mine two ways...one with a few pecans, half a banana and Splenda brown sugar blend. ORRRR, and apple diced up, a little of the brown sugar blend, pecans and cinnamon. Both faves of mine!!0

i have never tried raw oats in yogurt. (just no bakes!) will have to try now.
this reminded me of something- when i was in jr high, my best friends and i used to make pancakes on saturday mornings, except one day we didn't have enough mix, so we threw oats into the batter. they were so good, we started making them every weekend. forgot all about them until just now.0 -
I defrost either some frozen strawberries or a raspberry/blackberry mix and mix it with either brown sugar or cream of strawberry oatmeal. The fruit juice that comes from the fruit when its defrosted is really good flavor for the oatmeal!
A lot of these ideas sound good! Im gonna have to have me some oatmeal for breakfast tomorrow!0 -
It's simple.
In a pan put 1/2 a cup of porridge oats and a cup of either milk or half milk & water or just plain water. I like half soy milk & half water.
Cook over a medium heat, stirring all the time, till its got to the consistency you like. Serve.
I like to add a teaspoon of honey and some berries to mine.0 -
WOW... after reading all of these ideas I feel pretty boring! This is how I eat (or used to eat my oatmeal). )
1/2 c. organic rolled oats
1/4c. blueberries
1c. water
1TBLS. sucanat (similar to brown sugar)0 -
With Ben and Jerry's on the side?0

I like big whole oats, not the instant, much better texture IMO.
I like a splash of almond milk and blueberries. I use raisins and/or shredded coconut if out of blueberries.0 -
I bet I'm the only one who does this, but I'm sure more of you will after you try it. When you're in the mood for a fattening dessert, but don't want the fat and calories, do this instead:
I packet instant oatmeal of your choice (or the regular stuff if you want to go through all that trouble), prepared, with milk or water - your choice.
Add in 1 tbsp (or less) of your favorite butter substitute (I use Smart Balance with calcium)
Add in 1 tbsp (or less ((or more))) of your favorite all natural fruit preserves or jam or jelly or whatever
Top with 1 tbsp of Cool whip or other fat free whipped topping.
Stir and Enjoy
It's so good, I want some right now!!!0 -
That sounds good
Oh yeah, sometimes if I am at work and feeling a bit peccish, when I make a hot drink (tea, coffee or mocha) I will just dump a few teaspoons of oats into it. Keep spoon in cup and eat them when you get to the bottom0 -
I am definitely going to try some of these suggestions!0

Hmmm this is brilliant. I am a coffee FIEND and I bet this keeps you pretty full for an afternoon snack. Very intriguing...0 -
Ok I'm sure this sounds odd but my fave way to oatmeal is topped with EGGNOG!!! Soooo good! Not so healthy but hey there is light eggnog too.0

Hmmmmm.... i LOVE eggnog, but I'm not sure how well this would work.....It's in the stores now,,,,~wanders away thinking about oatmeal and eggnog~!0 -
Another good one is whole cranberries (not dried). They start bringing them out in the fall also. They are tart but soooo great in oatmeal!!
I found a bag of whole cranberries at the store and added them to my oatmeal today! Yum yum!! 1 serving (55g) of whole cranberries is only 30 calories. Makes the oatmeal tart and I added cinnamon and walnuts. Delish!0 -

I'm so happy now that the canned pumpkin is back in the stores! Pumpkin oatmeal has been my favorite lately until today I had cranberry oatmeal. I love fall!0 -
This may have a ton of carbs & sugar, but I like the fruit & cream instant oatmeal. I use one pouch and thats it. It less calories then a bowl of cereal and a cup of milk..(which is like 400 cals together) where oatmeal has like 130 cals in each pouch and just use water which has nothing.
I use the 2% milk usually because I don't like whole..or nonfat. I could try 1%.0 -

I have pumpkin in my oatmeal every morning! It's so filling and delicious. A little spice and some grade b maple syrup and it makes a warm, cozy breakfast. Great way to start my day Love love love it! Will try it with cranberries soon if I can give up the pumpkin for a day, Jess!0 -

I know!! It is sooooo good and filling! Try the cranberries, it's a nice change of pace too! A chopped apple w/ the cranberries is good too. I had oatmeal for my snack the other day w/ half of a sliced peach and cranberries. It was like a peach crisp!!0 -

And why can't you??? Oatmeal is one of my fav afternoon snacks too!! :laugh:0 -
Half cup whole oats (not the quick-cooking stuff), one cup non-fat milk. When it's almost done, I slice a banana into it. No need for sugar doing it this way. The banana is sweet enough.0

There is non fat milk out there that has all the curds and whey to give it the consistency of 2%. You should try finding some... the fat in 2% milk is ridiculous.0 -
Plain, blended in my morning shake. It tastes like *kitten* but it does a body good0
-
i went to an apple orchard / farm over the weekend and picked some apples and 4 sugar pumpkins. I'm making pumpkin puree tonight, but am hoping to reserve some for my oatmeal, thanks to this thread.
yum!

now what is the pros and cons with instant oatmeal vs. oldfashioned?? is there anything? i always buy the instant old fashioned oats? once in a blue moon i buy the steel cut from costco or sams...but it's just expensive.0 -
